Rarity's country change was quite a bit overdone, and Trenderhoof turned out to be a huge disappointment after he found Applejack. His personality change was just... weird.

the episode definitelly delivered laughs. I have to say, I need something extremelly powerful in a cartoon like MLP to make me fall off my chair in laughter. But I definitelly laughed at Rarity's overly romantic awkward crazyness and I enjoyed the episode. In levels of comedy perhaps this episode is the best of the season so far. 

 

But after a while of thinking about it, I was like 'what the fuck did I just watch? was it MLP? really?'

 

Rarity's fangirling over this Trenderhoof guy was presented so bluntly, the altar was just too much, she even had a piece of his mane stored in a jar. WTF! that's creepy in a 'Rarity wouldn't do that' kind of way, we totally haven't seen Rarity having this kind of behavior ever.

Now, I can't seem to figure out what Rarity sees in him besides the things she explained about him at the beginning of the episode. He's like an empty character, unappealing and uniteresting whatsoever. I can't say the characters where totally out of character, the whole episode was out of context! and the resolution of the conflict was resolved too quick, I literally felt this episode was 15 minutes long.

Worst part about this episode was Rarity trying to be country. Applejack was fine (and pretty!) when she was trying to be all fancy and high society, and no offense to Tabitha but it was downright painful watching Rarity try to put on such a thick accent.

 

 

I can't fault her for something the directors asked her to do. That's how thick and how funny it sounded. I can imagine in my head that someone asked Tabitha to put on overly thick country accent. Kinda like how someone purpously told Scootaloo's voice actress to sing bad, and than when Scootaloo's voice actress is singing regularly , she sounds pretty good. So, in lamens terms, I think someone told her to make it sound a lot thicker, for more comedy purposes. But, to answer your question, I'm gonna have to say Trender Hoof was the only down fall with this episode.

Trenderhoof was pretty bland and in that regard to me-unlikable.

 

There's also the fact that leading up to the 'Best Night Ever' she wanted to win the love and affection of Prince Blueblood and dreamed of Princess Celestia marrying them and as someone else has mentioned, despite claiming to have had crush on him for so long-we have never seen or heard of this guy until this episode.

 

He also leads into the Spike neglect, which I personally felt to be more brutal than any other instance when she asks how he could possibly know what it's like to have an unrequited crush-and if it were me and I girl that I had crush on like that said the same thing to me it would feel like a stab through the heart.

 

And of course he is also the root cause for the love triangle issue as well, which is another mark against the guy.

This episode was the worst episode I've ever seen from FiM, and you want me to pick a flaw?

 

No, I can't do that. I need to list every flaw.

 

* Rarity's fashion arc is boring as usual

* I've never been more annoyed by "oohs" and "ahhs" in my life.

* Rarity's got a stupid crush on Trenderhoof

* Oh, gee. A love triangle. What an incredibly unique and interesting story concept...

* Rarity acts like a complete dumbass for 22 minutes

* Trenderhoof's as feeble a character as this show can conceive. And they created Diamond Tiara. 

* Trenderhoof can't rhyme to save his life

* "Simpull Waaaaaayzzth!!!"

 

Literally, the whole episode is one facepalm after another. It'd be too soon if I ever watch that terrible excuse for an episode ever again.

I loved the episode but that said... my biggest gripe was the whole contrived stalker feddish that Rarity has been hideing this whole time.

 

I absolutely loved TSG's fake county hick accent but damn did it feel weird coming from Rarity.

 

Again, I liked it, but I hope this will be the end of Redneck Rarity

The romance elements were bad, but they always are in this show.

Trenderhoof, thought it did not bother me that much, because I wasn't expecting that much in the first place. Overall the episode was very interesting.

Actually, Rarity trying and failing at a southern accent was the entire point. That's where the humor comes from- it's funny to see someone attempting (and failing) to do something that they clearly have no idea how to do.

 

And you don't seem to have much appreciation for the amazing voice talent that went into that performance. Doing a high class southern belle type accent a la Applejack there is one thing. But playing an accent *on top of* an accent is something else. She wasn't doing a pony with a southern accent, she was doing a high class pony with a Middle Atlantic accent trying (and failing at) what they think is a southern accent.

 

Imagine you impersonating a French person doing a bad British accent. It's very difficult to do- you have to know where and how the British accent is overstressed and where and when the French accent seeps through.

Although it's halfway through the season, this is something I'd like to try for the remaining episodes. Immediately after it airs, make a poll to try and capture the top reason why an episode isn't liked as much or what detracted from the episode the most.

 

So we'll start with today's Simple Ways.

 

If you had just ONE top reason as to why you disliked the episode or thought was a flaw of the episode, which was it?

The only flaw I had with the episode was the Spike neglect, but everything else was picture perfect.

 

Ah see now I'm not a fan of Spike at all. To be honest he kinda annoys me most episodes. I think he could grow on me if he wasn't such an awkward bumbling kid? Aside from the not being a pony thing he just doesn't really seem to fit in with the group to me.
