What do you think, looking at the stars?

I enjoy looking at the night sky. When I do, I tend to think of, well, many things! Most of which concern the universe. How big is the Universe, does a planet  exist around that star that hosts life, how exactly did life begin on Earth? What do you think of when you look at the night sky?

I would have to say it depends upon my mood, it can vary from "what does my future hold" to "how did life begin". Going on long walks in the summer night and looking at the stars in one of my favorite things to do. ( I actually started doing so the summer I joined the herd)

Whenever I look up to try and see the stars, there often only are a little amount of them visible (probably because of all the light pollution). Nevertheless, looking into the night sky, be it filled with stars or not, makes me wonder about how small we actually are in the universe. It makes me wonder about all of the things we go through in life; all the significant events, all the discoveries, and the overall grandiosity of what humankind offers us.

And then, it makes me realize that despite having all of these things that what we consider as big and significant, we are but a speck within the observable universe. This (for me) leads to a multitude of other questions and thoughts concerning topics ranging from the possible existence of other universes, to standards about what really matters in life. Sometimes, it really makes me think about how incidental everything is; from the beginning of life on Earth, to the various events and revolutions that have molded and formed the societies and governments that we love and loathe today. It somehow makes me amazed at something as obvious as the state of our current society, or even something as simple as our humanity in itself.

But then, after some time, reality snaps back, and the dilemmas and problems that have been imaged as small things earlier would come back and make it be known that no matter how big or small a problem may be perceived to be, they will linger until something is done about them.

Wow. I think I went off the deep end there for a bit.

I think about how a lot of those stars up there are dead stars. When we look at the stars, we see stars from the past. It takes light years for those stars' light to hit us. For example, if you saw a star that was 100 light years away, that's not how the star looks now, that's how it looked a century ago.
