Something I noticed about season 4

So you know how everyone has been saying about Pinkie being flanderized this season. Well there is something I noticed for how they write her this season. When it's an episode focusing on the mane six, it's like the writers don't know what to do with her so they just write a few gags with her and that's about it. But when it's an episode where she's the mane focus like Pinkie Pride and I guess Pinkie Apple Pie. She has some arguably some of the best character moments of the show. What do you guys think of this?

Yes, I agree, and that's also why I personally think it's why a lot of people aren't really sure what to make of her character. Or at least that was in my experience.

 

At first, I absolutely hated Pinkie Pie. I thought she was really annoying when I first started watching because she was used as nothing more than shitty comic relief. Then when she started having really fantastic episodes, I saw there was way more to her as a character. Now she's definitely one of my top mane 6 ponies.

 

Episodes like A Friend in Deed and Pinkie Pride were, in my opinion, absolutely fantastic and had really great messages to them. Pinkie's episodes are without a doubt some of my personal favs. But then she just goes back to being a gag-character right after which can be very annoying. I really dislike it when the rest of the mane 6 does something like roll their eyes at her every single episode, and her total jerkiness in Filli Vanilli was ridiculous and unneeded IMO. 

 

I can understand that she's the comical fourth-wall breaking character and I don't mind seeing her gags, but I also want to see her be treated as more than that because we can see she is more than that in her episodes. Sometimes I feel like her friends don't respect her or appreciate her as much as they should.

Pinkie is the De facto comic relief character for obvious reasons. Unfortunately this doesn't always accurately represent her personality like the episodes that focus on her do.

 

Pinkie Apple Pie is my favorite episode of Season 4, almost solely because of her personality. In episodes like this it's really hard to dislike her.

Yes, but you forget Pinkie's overall personality as a character, rather than just a manipulative tool in non-focused episodes! Her comic relief never fails to make me smile, but opinions are stated here and I understand them. Her personality revolves around influencing the others of the gang with her happy mood and cherry attitude. If she is to abandon her usual characteristic of having a basis of taking things in a comical approach, she loses the very key element of herself. But let us not forget that she is not stupid, she knows of everything that is happening around her, which is why many of us seem to dislike her as a character.

 

I personally take Pinkie as the "Single Most Amazing Character Approach Hasbro Has Ever Created" so take everything I give you here with a grain of salt if you think, as she cannot do wrong to me.

 

I think she was quite in character, yet still understanding in that she isn't annoying or unlikable, remember she may be comic relief, but Pinkie's just done right! Maybe recent episodes weren't exactly her strongest moments with the exception of episodes starring the pink mare, but the writers all treat her differently, she can have days where she's just crazier than the last episode, like in Castle Maneia. Her lashes out at Fluttershy wasn't purposeful, I think she was unintentionally insensitive, as you can see her confusion with when she accidentally hurts her feelings the second time, showing she isn't trying to be funny, she's just like that.

It's not entirely her fault. This season is filled with episodes where all 6 of our heroines are in a story where at least 2 of them have NOTHING to do but stand around and mouth off.

 

It's just not her who's looking bad this season. The Other 5 really aren't much better...

I love Pinkie Pie's comic relief myself quite a bit, actually, and I too think she is a wonderful character. I think her optimism and cheeriness is a very positive influence on the rest of the mane six, but maybe it's that I feel like she's not being shown as a positive influence with her happiness (like in the Laughter Song) as much anymore and is just there for annoying the rest of them with gags, which is what a lot of people seem to be complaining about. It's not that I dislike Pinkie because I don't, she's my second favourite! 

 

But yeah, opinions opinions

Her comic relief hasn't been that bad... I thought she was particularly funny in Castle Mane-ia and Rainbow Falls anyway. The only episode where she was written to act kinda bad was Filli Vanilli, to me anyway.

She did have better moments in her own episodes though, yeah.

I usually am on the upbeat side of reviews. I don't complain too much, believe it or not (I just think when I complain about the few things I dislike, I'm heard loud and clear since I don't pull any punches ) but I gotta say, I do think Pinkie has been pretty...one-dimensional this season, except in Pinkie Pride and Pinkie Apple Pie. 

 

Now, of course, I'm no expert on Pink's character, but I will say she bugged the tar out of me in a few episodes where she wasn't the focus, and the others where she wasn't she wasn't too noticeable. I think Rarity ( ) Applejack, RD, and FS have been excellent this season, Twilight not being much to complain about, but Pinkie has actually been OOC, in my humble opinion, given she's had 1-dimension almost this whole season, barring two episodes She's not a one-dimensional character, Pinkie is a badass pony with some depth, if a bit silly.

 

Makes me kinda sad to see her misused this way, honestly. She's a great character who's only being used for laughs (and a lot of them this season have fallen on their face), when she can be used for so much more, like she was in the past -_-
