Do you still feel twilight is the main character? IF so why?

Yeah sure the season premiere,

and i'm not complaining.

I mean as we got deeper, and deeper into season 4,

She went from
Celestia's' student to one of the main six who just so happened to be a princess.

and I'm totally cool with that.

So yeah I get she'll like get top billing at the final,

and we'll see her get a major focus at the start of season 5 and the movie,

but every where in between (and that's alot)

I don't see why she would get the title Main character of the show.

It's kinda funny that twilight got more evened out after becoming a princess.

I guess you could say she's gone out of her way to be extra humble because of the title.

i think they have ended the main character thing all together. it seems like the mane six are all getting about the same attention to me.

but twilight will always have main character power going for her

I would say so. She's a princess now and from episode one it's been about her journey to learning about friendship

I think of Twilight more as the narrative perspective of the whole story of the show, and while her character affords her some more importance to the storyline (she is kind of a big deal), the point is made very very clear many times that without her friends she really wouldn't be anything at all.

While yes, she is the leader, I would say it's now more about all of the main six and CMC

I think we're going for a Transformers style here, where everyone is equal until the premiere and final where the leader gets temporary main character power

In terms of overreaching plot line, all major developments (princesshood, the kingdom, the box of doom) are still essentially centered around her. MLP is a slice-of-life show before it is an adventure show, so the adventures of her friends through their daily gets focus. But Twilight is the main character when stuff like season finales come around.

So...what you're saying is...Twilight is going to become pony Jesus?

I feel that Twilight will always be the mane focus of the show, but season 4 has had a little bit of a different theme going on.

It seems like each member of the mane six is discovering a lot about what their element truly means.

and I believe that this will tie in with the ending of this season and all the Rainbow Power business going on.

So for now, other ponies than Twilight are going to be given the spotlight. I expected this.

Another feeling I get is that all the problems that the mane six are encountering in Ponyville are just too easy for Twilight.

But if we had another major crisis in Equestria, it might be more difficult for her to overcome than the little problems that happen in Ponyville.

Twilight Sparkle has warmed her way into my heart by leaps and bounds, the series began with Twilight Sparkle and the season began with Twilight. The show is Friendship is Magic, not the Twilight Sparkle show, so it would be fair to have more than one centre character, which is how we got the mane six, and the cutie mark crusaders, the former is one of the few instances where an ensemble of characters interact together, now in season four we see how the mane six mingle together, as opposed to the original storyline of Twilight Sparkle learning about friendship, and her perspective through her letters to Princess Celestia. Now that Princess Twilight Sparkle has learned about friendship, the plot and story tread can focus on other ponies, as we learn about them, and get more character development, the mane six and the cutie mark crusaders are now the main characters as a whole, that will complete the puzzle and give us more insight to Equestria, and pony civilization for they are all now part of an even bigger mosaic.

I can't wait to see what princess-sized problem crops up at the end of the season. I'm assuming the friendship lessons of the season are going to combine with Twilight's role as a princess. Should be good

I haven't even seen season 4 but I never thought Twilight was the main character beyond the series pilot episodes. She got more screen time than the rest but that died down quickly as of season 2.

Manly Spike is obviously the main character.

I like the fact that they have a very diverse cast of characters. It leaves them more room to write with instead of every episode being "SHOVE ALL OF TWILIGHT'S MAGICAL PROWESS DOWN EVERYONE'S THROATS."

She's the obvious hero type but hardly the only main character.

Not a big fan of Twilight, but yes.  I still feel that she's the main character.  However, when you say main characters, I mainly don't refer Twilight as the "Main, Main Character" but one of the main characters, since there are some episodes where she doesn't appear.

Twilight hasn't really been the main character since Season 1.

"Lesson Zero" virtually removed Twilight's status as the main character of the show, which expanded the number of perspectives under which a friendship lesson can be learned.  Thus the focus became all of the Mane 6 for each of their respective episodes.

Her status as the main character was revisited somewhat in "Magical Mystery Cure" but not enough to convince me that she still was.

Ironically, her status as a princess has made her more of an equal with her friends in terms of her role in the show.  She's still a main character, but not with the focus status of previous seasons.

It is all about her but what she accomplished until season 4 is all thanks to the Magic of Friendship that she learned from the girls in Ponyville.

In the case of most bronies, Twilight turned out to be more of the narrative perspective of the show and until Magical Mystery Cure and Princess Twilight Sparkle, she's been a driving force in the show with the help of her friends but it's not just her but with the help of her friends that said character has come so far from season 1. Now that she's achieved her destiny and accepted it, she's now a princess-in-training to learn more on the concepts of friendship beyond the magic of friendship but at this point, the MLP team needed to also focus on the Mane 5 as well since they have to learn for themselves more about the magic of friendship in their lifetimes with problems that only they and Twilight can resolve throughout the show.

I think that twilight is now equal to the rest of  the mane 6 and no longer can be considered to be a main character .

Well, she'll always be Best Pony in my eyes, but her role in the show has changed somewhat this season. She's not the sole focus but she is often the focus of her friends and commands a certain deference under certain situations. If Celestia the writers would just freaking give her some duties we'd be great.

The way I see it, Twilight is the main character of the show, even though individual episodes have a focus on different characters. It always felt to me that the show is more about Twilight than it is about the Mane Six as a whole.

Now that she is a princess... I really don't see why she would need to be a princess to do anything she has done since the beginning of the season. It makes the whole "TWILIGHT IS AWESOME" thing from MMC look like it was completely unnecessary for her to have a title, but it just helped to increase the feeling that the show is about her and not her sidekicks. Actually, nothing has changed other that she has wings and talks to Celestia as if they are the same.

EDIT: sorry, I meant to use the quote just to have it nearby while I was typing and forgot to remove it.

Technically yes though you wouldn't really know that from this season except for the season premier and most likely the season finale. While I am glad that this isn't becoming the Twilight Sparkle Show because as much as I like Twilight the others are important as well. What bothers me though is that they made such a big deal out of Twilight becoming a "princess" in the season 3 finale yet the only hide or hint of it aside from the season 4 premier whic for the most part and even that didn't answer nearly as many questions as it should have even if it was an otherwise good premier despite breaking the promise of a new villain (seeds planted by Discord 1000 years ago just dosen't count) and Twilight Time to a much lesser extent. And with all the inconsistencies this season it feels like they can't really make up their minds on anything except for the keys and there is a lot more we don't know about those than we actually do know but that is understandable as it is still a fairly new plot device. While I have my concerns about twilicorn and still have some lingering doubts I also don't want it to be nothing happened whatsoever which is exactly what it seems like, this entire season could have gone exactly the same way without Twilight ever ascending so what is the point of it all? Even the season premier which did address it could have still turned out the same way with Twilight Time being the only episode that could not have happened without the ascension.

Twilight was ever only the "main" character in season 1 and the season 2 premiere. Like someone said in an earlier post, after the events of Lesson Zero, we never really had a main character to solely focus on any longer.

That's the beauty of the show and why I love it a lot more than other cartoons. All of the cast are treated equally and no one ever feels left out in terms of focus and character expansion. Taking the focus off of Twilight only benefited the show since while I like having Twilight around, if she were in every single episode like she was in S1, I would get tired of her pretty quickly.

So in conclusion, Twilight no longer being the main character doesn't really affect me. In fact, I feel like she has been the least explored of the mane 6 this season. The other 5 (and even the CMC for that matter) have had more character development in S4 then Twilight has. Just an afterthought...
