hey buddy let me spell it for you

You don't need to spell it out for me. I'm not stupid, I was just demonstrating why it wouldn't take so many limbs to operate a slingshot or bow.

Not to mention, people always bring up the hooves, when we've seen the ponies grip things with their hooves before.

3p1cd3m0n, on 14 Mar 2012 - 5:14 PM, said: Slings often do use stones as ammunition, but sometimes lead balls are used which are called often called bullets. It says so on Wikipedia. Here is the first sentence on on the wiki article for slings: "'A sling is a projectile weapon typically used to throw a blunt projectile such as a stone or lead "sling-bullet"'. wouldn't you need 3 if not 4 arms to use a sling shot?

There's one thing you might not know:  slings are not the same things as slingshots.  A sling is actually a pouch on the end of a tether, and the idea is that you put a stone in the pouch and swing it around and around to build up centrifugal force, and when the stone has enough velocity behind it, somehow you get it to fly out of the pouch at your target.  (I'm not sure how that last part works, but it did work in its time.)  In theory, a pony having a sling tied to his or her tail or hoof cloud pull this off...

...Though as we haven't seen it on the show, all those nerdfacts are academic.  Still, this whole discussion reminds me of something from the Grand List of Things Hasbro Won't Let a Brony Do in a Fangame:

923) Some dinosaurs had a club on the ends of their tails called a "thagomizer".  I may mention this in-game, as it has educational value, HOWEVER:  (a) ponies do not have thagomizers, and (B) royal guards may not be equipped with artificial thagomizers, no matter how much sense it would make.

So tempted.  So very tempted.

oh i forgot the physic bending sticky hooves. why didn't i remember to not include physics? (sarcasm)

It's apparent that physics don't necessarily behave the same way in the show as they do this side of the universe.  Or, rather, that the ponies don't have to play by the same rules that we do.  Considering, among the many other examples I could cite, that Pinkie Pie can defy gravity, thusly:

Any argument of, "Ponies can't do something because physics!" would kind of have to ignore, you know, the series itself.  The kind of hooves you're probably thinking of are irrelevant, because Equestrian ponies aren't equipped with your standard this-Earth pony hooves.  Nor are their abilities limited in the same way.

If lances/spears are canon, It's a reasonable assumption that swords and other melee weapons can exist. Also, Pinkie used Twilight like a gun in the season 2 finale, so maybe the Equestrian military uses stuff like that.

It's a cartoon about magical talking ponies. I don't think that you have to include physics.

Whatever their weapons of choice may be, it seems depicted that the majority of them don't really like out-and-out bloodshed and would rather do a lot of bluffing, knockdowns, and magicking it up to avoid it. It's far from a utopia, but they're way ahead of Earth Prime as far as having less crime and violence.

I previously thought that the Equestrian guards we have seen throughout the series were just ceremonial. However, the season 6 finale confirmed that they were in fact Equestria's actual military. I found this odd since I thought Equestria would have developed guns; considering that fireworks and cannons do in fact exist in MLPFIM, the absence of the gun is quite strange (I don't think I ever actually expected them to show guns in-show but I thought they would simply avoid scenes of war as a way to avoid their depiction).

Well I see that as simply the divergence of technology. Necessity is the mother of invention after all. When you have soldiers that can already cast offensive spells and others that can blast weaponized lightning from the very clouds, most firearms are rendered redundant for the amount of conflict Equestria typically sees.

In the alternate timeline, they might have developed more advanced weapons technology to match the needs of the war, but keep in mind we saw exactly one battle in that war and it's unclear how long it had been going on for so they might not have been beyond blunderbusses at the time Twi dropped in.

I guess since ponies are so strong they have no need for weapons.

You've said yourself how they DO have weapons. Plus humans are faaaaaar more capable of fighting and killing one another with our bare hands than most of us would like to think, doesn't mean I wouldn't grab my staff or a similarly dimensioned object God forbid I should ever need it.

I did say they have weapons but didn't say they were dependent on them. Also I didn't say humans can't kill without weapons.

To varying degrees certainly. Twilight and Rarity certainly don't need them, whereas AJ has her lasso and Pinkie packs a cannon with her.

Also not saying we ourselves are and are not, simply going by your logical direction of "don't need, therefore don't have." To a certain extent I agree. Because of Equestria's relative lack of large, more conventional, scale conflict, they never developed pony portable gunpowder weaponry because their magic can do more or less damage at their discretion than a bullet can. However that doesn't mean they still don't need, nor wouldn't they still find useful, more basic combat tools such as spears.

Here's answer:

Royal guards bring spears. But no one uses some special weapons in the fight.

Only magic and brute power.

You know what makes that scene even more twisted is he's sending an already involuntary force to defend himself. Sure he, and by extension the writers hide it under their obscuring armor, but the Crystal ponies are essentially a slave army. Just goes to show how truly despicable he is, not only are the crystal ponies his slaves in labor service, he uses them as meat shields.
