Why is there no episode on April 12th?

Littlest Pet Shop season Finale. They are most likely doing a LPS Marathon which would not allow for any MLP that day.

The LPS season finale is only part of the reason. According to Zap2it this week's episode was planned as episode 20, but episode 19 was pushed back. That's probably why we're now missing a week (same thing happened last season, too).
