Equestria's Geography

Well, it's a sphere, that's certainly true, but the continents are distinctly different from Earth's.

Not that different if you ask me

Vague shapes roughly in the same relative place as continents to one another as those of Earth do not mean that they're similar. South America doesn't reach down to the South Pole, Europe isn't a huge landmass the same size as North America that sits on the equator, and so forth and so forth. The geography is very, very different, despite the northern continent's vague resemblance to North America.

Seems somewhat against your own statement D:

It's roughly in the same place and around the same size, looks very similar to Earth to me.

I'm measuring Equestria landmass to be about the size of the west side of the Mississippi River. That entire Midwest and West Coast! Appleoosa takes about a 1 day ride in a pony train so measuring the average speed of a horse is about 27 km an hour but I'll add another 30 km because they're maintaining constant speed with a freight train behind them. Considering they get there by day next day, I'll say an 18 hour trip. That's over a thousand kilometers.

Manehattan is basically Manhattan Island. Manhattan Island is about 34 square miles of city. That's HUGE!

Ponyville seems quite small. It looks quite small. However, the Everfree Forest is supposed to be dense and huge. I'll compare that to the Redwood Forests. It's 133,000 acres...

Yeah, Equestria is quite big,

Well, there are two large landmasses oriented north-south connected by a relatively thin isthmus, and the majority of the world's surface seems to be taken up by ocean. Those are the only two things that Earth and the pony world have in common, as far as I can see.

I apologise if I seem a bit pedantic about this, but I am a geography nerd, after all.

I can tell you are passionate about your geography ;)

Though I still don't see how it's that much different from Earth's geography...if it has similar land mass size how could that not be something in common?

Friend, you have no idea. I can (almost) name every single sovereign country in the world without reference in 15 minutes.

It doesn't have similar land mass sizes, so that isn't a thing that it has in common with Earth.

I think the globe is stylistically simplified.

I think everyone thinks that - I know I do.

According to this, the world in which the ponies live seems to have the same general shape as the Earth. :3

Look at that ^^

The land mass to the west definitely is similar to North and South America and the others have their similarities.

I said the land mass to the west looks vaguely similar to the Americas, but the northern continent is much larger than North America, and the southern continent is probably a lot smaller than South America (though I can't be sure as it goes off the bottom of the map).

The other land masses bear no real relation to any landmasses on Earth - the section that Marshmallow labelled "Europe" is many times the size of Europe, and has a much more simplistic coastlines, in addition to being much, much further south than Europe is. The section Marshmallow labelled "Africa" bears absolutely no resemblance to Africa. Plus, both landmasses appear to be islands:

Well I didn't really mean that every land mass is similar to the Earth's counterpart I meant each one can be compared to a landmass on Earth. Sorry I don't know all the geographical terms :P
