Appledan 6 April 21, 2014 Share April 21, 2014 Well hard to say, Spike being a doormat is just stupid comic relief and Fluttershy is... well Fluttershy. I guess Spike? -Staff Sergeant Appledan

pony.colin 156 April 21, 2014 Share April 21, 2014 Oh that's an interesting poll. Mine was Fluttershy. I don't feel Spike is really getting doormat status, he's just getting a bad shaft from the writers (So is Fluttershy, but worst in being walked all over). Anilewe 2,178 April 21, 2014 Share April 21, 2014 Fluttershy. Spike isn't really a doormat, writers just use him in scenes, which are supposed to be funny, because in most of episodes, they don't really know what to do with him. But being the doormat isn't a part of his nature or personality. Fan of Applejack? Join us! We have the best cider from Sweet Apple Acres! ORANGESEXY IS THE BEST PONY! TheSupremeLeaderOfChaos 1,211 April 21, 2014 Share April 21, 2014 Fluttershy. Her nature is a doormat, though she's getting better! Spike is simply put into very sad situations. Red Cedar 1,408 April 21, 2014 Share April 21, 2014 Spike. Fluttershy will at least explain why she doesn't want to do something before resorting to violence. Anilewe 2,178 April 21, 2014 Share April 21, 2014 (edited) There should be an explanation what exactly you mean by ''doormat''. Because yeah, Spike is treated like a doormat by writers, who just don't know what to do with him and his role suffers, because of it. But there's a big difference between "being treated like a doormat" and "being a doormat", which I understand as "letting others treat me badly, because I don't have a courage to say no". Megas 27,871 April 21, 2014 Share April 21, 2014 Fluttershy is easily a bigger doormat, I mean even after several similar lessons she still lets people walk all over her. I was hoping KCAFO was gonna change things but apparently not
Frith is Magick 1,471 April 21, 2014 Share April 21, 2014 Fluttershy was written initially purely as a doormat, however, she has gone through personal development, and while she may still behave timidly, she does know when to hold her ground and can do so. Spike, on the other hand, has devolved into a comic relief character, so while he may not have been written as a doormat, he has become one. For that reason I have to call Spike the current "doormat". 4 Keep flyin'
StarSwirlTheBearded 356 April 21, 2014 Share April 21, 2014 (edited) I voted Fluttershy. She couldn't stand up for her opinions if her life depended on it. Spike is childish, but he can resist. Ianpiersonjdavis 513 April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 I would have to say Spike, because there have been moments in the show where Fluttershy was much more assertive like in 'Dragonshy', 'Stare Master', 'Putting Your Hoof Down', 'Keep Calm and Flutter On', 'and 'The Return of Harmony Part 2' while trying to catch up to the Discorded Rainbow Dash and getting recognition for these moments. While Spike has been neglected a lot and only really does anything about it ONCE by lampshading it in 'Power Ponies'.
Singe 2,111 April 22, 2014 Author Share April 22, 2014 I voted Spike since the Crystal Kingdom had revealed his biggest fear was not being needed and "Spike at your Service" reinforces him as a Pony Pleaser.

PE Brony 1,712 April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 I vote Fluttershy. Spike has enough of a strong personality that he is able to stand up for himself, though he cannot do much about it, he's at least vocal. This only really disappears when Rarity asks him to do something. At that point, he's a total pushover. Fluttershy has had assertive times, but she tends to overdo it, and then finds her timid-self again, only slightly improved. Fluttershy has been able to be effectively assertive and strong with animals. With ponies, it's 99% Shy and 1% Assertive. ShadOBabe 19,014 April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 (edited) I vote Fluttershy. She has her moments, but for the most part, she just crumples when faced with conflict. Like in Trade Ya. Did you see her? Could NOT stand up to that guy at all. He didn't even have to say anything to her, just give her a slightly irritated look and she completely folded. Spike gets walked over a lot, but it's more that it just happens, rather than him knowing it's happening and letting others do it because he doesn't want to cause trouble for anyone. Many of the times he's been taken advantage of are because of his age and size putting him at a disadvantage (and the writers using him as the butt-monkey). But he would have started bickering with that guy in Trade Ya. He's seen defending Twilight from her Discorded friends and Rarity from the diamond dogs. He goes toe-to-toe with a troublesome Angel. Demands more donuts from Joe. Has no problems teasing he friends, showing he isn't terrified of having others be annoyed with him. Gets huffy with the dude at the Quills and Sofas store and gives out advice and orders in Power Ponies. He's got a lot more moxie than Fluttershy. Especially when he's annoyed. Fluttershy's assertiveness also surfaces when she's mad, but trying to get Fluttershy mad or riled up is like pulling teeth. Wind Chaser 4,768 April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 Spike is the bigger doormat for letting all this bad sh*t happen to him and not doing a damn thing to better himself. At this rate, he'll become this series' Kenny McCormick. The only good thing that can come out of that is if the characters curse the writers every time he dies ("You bastards!"). Fluttershy is just all over the scale when it comes to being a doormat. Maybe today she'll remember to be assertive, or maybe she'll do that "if you really want to" thing again. All I know is that neither character gets the best of the writing most of the time.
ghostfacekiller39 23,860 April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 I chose Fluttershy Spike is still a child, though, and the mane 6 are young adults. He's probably just obeying orders, but I think he's more goofy than a doormat show-wise (from a writing standpoint, he's a doormat.) Fluttershy, though, usually backs down the instant someone disagrees with her and wants something else. She doesn't really stand her ground very often, so that's a bit problematique for her, but is also the definition of a doormat. Furthermore, she's shown little improvement in that regard. She "learns her lesson," so to speak, but she doesn't really do anything different after that and goes right back to being a doormat. Even if I thought Spike was a doormat, I'd still choose Fluttershy because her level of it is borderlining on mental disorder -_- 2 He who is Positively Obsessed With All Things Rarity!!! Creamy Arty 6,252 April 23, 2014 Share April 23, 2014 Spike gets ignored and abandoned, but I wouldn't say anypony walks over him very often. He's ready to announce his displeasure at nearly any perceived slight and flat-out refuses to do things sometimes... even if he gets suckered into them anyway, sometimes. :okiedokielokie: Fluttershy, on the other hand (hoof), rolls with just about anything. It takes a life-threatening situation that endangers her friends, or something almost of that magnitude, before she'll put her hoof down. I have to award this one to Fluttershy. 1 Kyoshi made this ^^ Come join us on Equestria.tv on Fridays at 6 PM Eastern for our weekly movie nights! Wingnut 7,005 April 23, 2014 Share April 23, 2014 It's close but I'm going with Spike here. They each have their different reasons for trying so hard to please others. But it is kinda interesting that they seem to lead to the same result. They both have a kind hearted nature which lends to being very helpful and giving to begin with. But they also have a hard time saying no when they're being taken advantage of. A similar thread could be titled "After Fluttershy, who is the biggest doormat of the Mane 6?" Odds are it already exists but I'm too busy to search for it now. Believe it or not, my answer would be Pinkie Pie. She's another character who goes to incredible lengths to please others and win their friendship.
silvadel 1,393 April 23, 2014 Share April 23, 2014 Spike is the bigger doormat. Thing is Fluttershy just doesn't like to see other ponies get hurt. She thinks of herself last. This does NOT mean you can get away with mistreating her (more than once). If you abuse her kindness then she will for the most part avoid you. Pursue her after that at your peril.
