I really enjoyed this one! Rarity drunk with creative power was quite a sight. (I just know if I had the power to change whatever I wanted, I'd go around trying to 'fix' things as well.)

 

I like how they're incorporating dark magic as a corrupting influence more often, too. Especially from the standpoint of someone who likes to theorise about what may have happened to ponies like Luna and Sombra.

Isn't it interesting that an episode with Spike comes out on the same day as the St. George Day festival here where I live? Dragons. Dragons everywhere.

 

This episode really killed with the entertainment value. Who wouldn't want to see Rarity be corrupted insane for 22 minutes straight?

 

The biggest issue I can put up with this episode is Spike sitting around for too long and saying nothing but yes to Rarity, his inaction is what caused this plot to run the entire 22 minutes. It's understandable that Spike is doing this because he's crushing like mad on Rarity, but are you really continuing to stand idle and serve her while she basically makes the whole world crumble around you?

 

At the end, Twilight gets hit as the butt of a joke in an interesting role reversal, though I think this show is becoming too cynical for its own good. Spike should have been punished in some way for his inaction.

 

I agree with this, some of the time of Spike just sitting around and being Rarity's yes man really would have been used better if Applejack said a line or two to Spike to set Spike's solution to the plot in motion.

Yeah it would have been good for Applejack to have been in the episode since it is about honesty.

Rarity mental breakdown! There's just something so enjoyable about watching that pony go nuts, I don't know what it is xD

Haha! Rarity drowning her sorrows in gallons of ice cream is also so adorable

I'm clearly biased since i love Rarity, and pretty much any episode that has her being a drama queen is a good episode.

 

And Spike was great in this episode, although it took him a bit too long to make things right again. 

 

Speaking of mad ponies..Pissed off Twilight is DEFINITELY best Twilight.

Clearly it's because mental breakdowns are a Rarity 

Oh man, I loved this episode for pretty much the same reason. Oh and comfort eating is canon now.

 

One thing did bug me though is that Spike still thinks Owlowicious can talk. Come on Spike, how long have you been living with her? Don't you know by now that that's what owls sound like? Come on!

Loved this episode, and it had yet another great message(s). But I'm still wondering about one thing.

 

What happened to the book Spike swallowed?

 

The book will take over Spike and he will become the new villain of the season finale of course.

Or maybe it's in Ponyville's sewers.

Good episode overall, good acting, decent Rarity episode, and another good Spike episode. It's nice to meet another incredibly -deadly magical artifact. This book is quite easily on par with the Alicorn Amulet, in its' own way. The ending was very much rushed, Rarity got over the spells magic by Spike's mini-apology rant and that was it, which was pretty dissappointing given they went ahead with Twilight coming into the situation and all these other things. There are time constraints to be sure, but they should plan ahead and crop out a little more time for a climax, perhaps. They had a tie-in explanation for it, which is good, but you know, still.

 

But yeah, pretty good.

Out of the three mental breakdown episodes I have to say Lesson Zero is still my favourite but this one was still pretty good

Which reminds me: I wonder if they undid Rarity's "improvements" by turning everything back to normal directly, or if they teleported all that new gold and jewels into the Canterlot treasury before restoring everything? The book did seem to imply the manifestations would be permanent; seems like a waste to transmute all that precious material without stashing it somewhere.

 

But then again, maybe gold and jewels are so common in Equestria they they are almost worthless except for their utilitarian purposes, like the bits and decorations?

The reactions are usually just, "Oh, she's just crazy, so she's referring to the book as another person."

MY reaction was immediately, "Oh God it's ALIVE!! It's whispering it's dark commands to her!! Get it away from her Spike!!"

The reactions are usually just, "Oh, she's just crazy, so she's referring to the book as another person."

Indeed that Rarity got messed up everything in Ponyville under the book's spell, then Spike ate it for restoring back to normal! I think this one is shocked to me!

All in all, I think Rincewind handled being possessed by a semi-sentient spell a bit better. He ended up saving the Discword. He lacked Rarity's style though. I do question Spike eating such a powerful magical tome though. There are bound to be side effects. I also wish they would have given us a glimpse of the princesses struggling to set everything right though. Did they at first suspect Discord?

Something I just realized today was that this episode had a nice little puppet theme going on. The instigation to the plot had to do with literal puppets. Then Rarity became a puppet to the book once she was under its spell. Finally, Spike was being a puppet to Rarity by giving her blind praise. You could also think of possessed Rarity treating Ponyville like a stage for her to glamourize.

Spike as best friend of Rarity.

Good role of Owlicious.
Evil version of Rarity-Radiance - an alternative to Nightmare Rarity.
Rarity going mad/possesed by evil book giving her power of materializing and transforming things to everything she can imagine.
Problem with Rarity not related to her becoming overly greedy.

Although not perfect, I enjoyed it much.

 

I loved Rarity expressions, she was so creepy.

Now I wait for episode where Twilight is becoming evil or possessed.

So, this was a pretty good eppy.

I just feel so bad for little Spike. I mean, the Sparity shipping could never work out, but he still seems like he really think it would.

The start of the episode I almost died, as I thought it'd be filled from start to end with the annoying "Who" joke. Luckily, they didn't actually do that to me.

 

I liked it though. Not my favorite, but good.

This episode was okay, I didn't think it was perfect, just okay.

 

Not really sure what it was I didn't like so much about it, but it was not all bad either. 

I'd get it a 4/5 rating.
