Inspiration Manifestation head canon [spoilers]

Okay, I've got a theory about the book in IM.  It is a soul jar: an inanimate object that holds the soul of a living being (usually an evil one).  Rarity refers to the book as if it were alive and the book does influence her behavior.  It also changed the color of her magical aura, to match that of Changelings--I might add.

So...I think the book hold the soul of a Changeling that was defeated by Celestia and Luna long ago.  That would explain why they hid the book.

The one thing that confuses me though is green magic was shown to be used by Queen Chrysalis and the changelings, yet Flim and Flam use it as their magic hue. Also at the end Twilight stated the magic Rarity used while under the spell was dark magic, I thought dark magic was the magic King Sombra used or the magic Twilight used to turn the potion from pink to white?

The magic Sombra uses is Alicorn Magic.  That is the canon name for it.  We, the fans, referred to it as dark magic because of how it was used.

I guess their magic aura is green since their birth.

The colour of the Flim Flam brothers magic is a much darker kind of green. The lurid, biohazard green seems the identical shade to Changeling magic.

And Sweetie Belle's magic is also green, remember?

Interesting assumption. Would love to see some sort of connection to the changelings but I'm not sure if any will be revealed. Anything is possible though so I wouldn't count out a return of the changelings just yet. I'm just so anxious to see the finale, cannot wait to see what they do with it.

I'm pretty sure what they were going for, @Forlong. It's just too close to the actual lore to not be such an item, but they probably can't refer to it as such for fear of their TV rating being compromised (remember they struggled with the term: "egghead" so a "soul jar" is probably out of the question).

"Oh look, there's our friend Rarity GOING DOWN IN FLAMES!!! ISN"T FRIENDSHIP MAGIC!!!?" -Tabitha St. Germain as Rarity

"No matter how many times others tell you you're great, all the praise in the world means nothing if you don't feel it inside.......Sometimes to feel good about yourself, you gotta let go of the past. That way, when the time comes to let your greatness fly, you'll be able to light up the whole sky." -Cathy Weseluck as Spike

I think it probably had a consciousness and drove Rarity to use it's power,

And Spike murdered it. :)

Actually, I'm just talking tongue-in-cheek here; I have to presume the "green energy" that left Rarity was its actual consciousness, So it was more like Spike eating a husk than eating something alive.

I totally agree.

You know I watch a LOT of reaction videos, and I'm really surprised by the lack of people that had a reaction like mine.

The reactions are usually just, "Oh, she's just crazy, so she's referring to it as another person."

MY reaction was immediately, "Oh God it's ALIVE!! It's whispering its dark commands to her!! Get it away from her Spike!!"

Exactly. You don't start shipping with a book if it didn't have some kind of intelligence that was smart enough to convince you it needed to be treated like any other living thing. :)

They could call it something else and get around the darker aspects of it, but it would be a challenge.  That might have been the reason for being vague.

He's not the first character in this show to take a life.

I thought it might be some sort of Changeling magic as well when I was watching the episode. Green magic, and the changing of objects seems suspiciously  Changeling to me.

Ok, now I have to think about who Candace took the life of... :)

It could be Chrysalis' subjects, since they likely starved to death.

Sombra was killed (maybe) by the subjects of the Crystal Empire and the Crystal Heart.

The giant flower monster near the edge of Equestria was buried under a rock, but it was already living underground.

I'll pick door #1, what is the correct answer? :D

Not as far as we know.  The comics indicate that the Changelings found new victims to feed upon.  Sombra has been confirmed to be dead by Meghan McCarthy.  That was what I was referring to.

I went back and rewatched the end of CEpt2. I forgot Cadence flew the Crystal Heart down to its receptacle to "stop Sombra". It stopped him alright.

Spike had a hand in that as well, since he got it to her and rode on her back the whole way down. Spike: He's turning into judge, jury, and executioner dragon.

It's too bad Sombra is confirmed dead; I thought the close-up on his horn being the only intact piece of him left might indicate he could reanimate himself. I guess it's just another evil artifact lying around for some unsuspecting pony to pick up. :)
