The 2014 MLPF World Cup Interviews

I guess Pinkie Pie...

Huzzah! How many points do I recieve?!

You're absolutely correct! And for guess that, here's an exclusive interview with dearly departed to talk about his love for Pinkie Pie, the partying queen!

Pinkie Pie

How did you first stumble upon My Little Pony?

My Little Pony came out of nowhere for me! I mean, I saw little bits of it here and there before I joined for real, and I saw it as one of those new Internet trends/memes. Curiosity got the better of me when a buddy invited me to a live stream, and I realised that this thing was huge - giant fandom. So I thought, "Hey! Didn't expect this. I think I will check this out... even if it might be silly".

???

PROFIT!

What was the defining moment of you deciding on your favourite character, if any?

Oh, now that's easy.

*ahem*

"IT WAS UNDER EEEEE!"

That precise moment was when it clicked. Pinkie Pie was the greatest character ever from that point onwards, and so was My Little Pony as a show. I almost drowned in how amazing it was. I still treasure that one moment in time - thanks to that, I simply had to see more of that eccentric Pinkie character, and it's really changed me for the better.

Why do you love your character?

Where do I begin? My goodness. I love Pinkie Pie in every single way imaginable. For me, she is exactly who we should strive to be like - eternally happy, with everyone's best interests in mind, and with truly admirable free-spiritedness. If everyone were like, or aimed to be like, Pinkie Pie, the world would be a utopia. I'm not even kidding. She is the archetype of the true altruist and role model.

Pinkie Pie speaks to me in a way. No, scratch that, in all the ways. I see quite a bit of my sister, who is very dear to me, in Pinkie Pie's hyperactive and boundlessly energetic charm, and remarkable perkiness attached to her own optimism in everything she does. I also see a bit of my father, whom I value endlessly, in Pinkie Pie's quirky and extremely adorable bouts of spontaneous singing and general crazy, fuck-the-system antics.

And finally (I could go on for hours with this, so I'll limit this to a few paragraphs... surprised I can even do that to myself!!) she has played an enormous part in my own self-progression. Her total confidence in social situations, a combination of her aptitude at being carefree and her natural beauty, inspired me to follow suit. Before finding the show and my beloved Pinkie Pie, I was in a state of not even being able to invite my closest friend over due to the social anxiety. But slowly, and surely, watching Pinkie do what she does leavened my will to overcome that. April 2013, I went to my first ever Brony meet-up, and a whole new world exploded around me. I was lifted up and out into all the goodness of life today, simply by seeing the motivations why in that pink ball of perfection. And for that, I owe her an endless debt of gratitude.

I think she speaks for the entire Brony fandom with what she does. The way she is a total free spirit, never afraid to do her own thing and see to ideas and norms that are totally unique - isn't that analogous for our entire fandom? She represents our prosperity and collective kindness and enthusiasm for the things that we love in the face of what society thinks is wrong, and I think that's the archetype that deserves to see this World Cup have her name on the end trophy. Thanks to the existence of resolves like Pinkie Pie, we Bronies, and our entire fandom, are allowed to exist. I simply don't know how to go about thanking her flawless rendition of what brings us together as a community. She is none other than Best Pony for what she means to us all.

   :)     :)     :)

If you were to give out a few rallying cries to your fellow fans for the MLPF World Cup, what would you say and do?

Rallying cries? Oh, my Pinkie fans, friends, and followers, you all know this one!

FUN! FUN! FUN! FUN! FUN!

03_26_30_129_299647_UNOPT_safe_pinkie_pi

Some members of MLPF have voted that Group D is the "Group of Death". And it's rightly so. Pinkie Pie has potentially tough competition with the likes of Scootaloo, Princess Celestia, and Bulk Biceps. Given that she barely scraped off Octavia in World Cup Qualifying 58-44, how will Pinkie Pie respond?

I'm 100% confident - and I have no doubt my fellow Pinkie enthusiasts are as well - that Pinkie Pie will walk out of that so-called "Group of Death" with the winning points in the bag. Pinkie Pie has always excelled in borderline every poll-based or otherwise competitive contest that she's been in, from the Summer Ponyshow - where she won 3 times consecutively - and March Madness, where she won in 2012 and 2014 and reached the championship all 3 years. I attribute it to the enthusiasm that our fanbase has. Pinkie will respond to any challenge by standing tall, and we'll be pushing her all the way through the competition, but we're also there to have a fun time and yell for our Best Pony!

Congratulations to Pinkie Pie for making the Finals of March Madness! Given that Pinkie Pie almost went all the way in March Madness, are you feeling confident that Pinkie Pie will win the World Cup?

My dear, Pinkie Pie won this year's March Madness! (Along with the other 3, but hey - she was still ahead of her opponent when thatvery controversial semi was called). She only almost won in the hypothetical "alternate ending" tourney set up by Thrash, but even then I think it shows how fortuitous and strong she is when it comes to competition. Just like always, I'm super confident, as are our vivacious fans. We're rearing to go, man!

Time to feature yet another Mane 6 character. This time, we're going to have a look at the glorious Princess Twilight Sparkle, and we're going to take an interview with wonderful administrator, @Artemis!

Twilight Sparkle

How did you first stumble upon My Little Pony?

While perusing another forum that I once upon a time frequented, another member, a moderator, posted a thread in their equivalent of our General Discussion board. In said thread he lauded this new iteration of My Little Pony as being well-written, acted, and animated, and appealing to broad audience unlike its predecessors. Many scoffed, but I was among the few who decided to give it a fair chance. Glad that I did. Cheesy and cliché as it may sound, this show and the fandom surrounding it have had a profound positive impact upon my life. I became a brony on May 20th of 2011 before I had even heard the term.

What was the defining moment of you deciding on your favourite character, if any?

Boring as this sounds, there wasn't. Twilight and Applejack were originally close contenders as my favorite due to how relatable both of them were. Over time Twilight gradually nudged Applejack back. Don't get me wrong though, I still love AJ and find her very much a kindred soul, she and her family, Twilight just has a slight lead.

Why do you love your character?

Having always been somewhat bookish and possessing a mind for things both factual and fantastic, I find I relate most to Twilight. Her attitude towards the notion of friendship when she arrived in Ponyville was also somewhat like my own, and her generally introverted and reserved nature was something I could relate to rather well. As the show went on, she and I both grew into more caring and personable people. Without yakking at you all night (and I could), the simple answer is that she and I have a lot in common.

And she's really cute.  :P

If you were to give out a few rallying cries to your fellow fans for the MLPF World Cup, what would you say and do?

In all honesty, I can't think of much to say to try and swing votes to my waifu favorite pony. The important thing to remember is that we're all fans of the same characters in the same show, even if we may care for different aspects in different ways and to varying degrees. We aren't enemies here. Everypony is best pony in her own way, and whoever wins is worthy.

^ Totally a Twilight answer, btw.

What was your initial reaction to Twilight becoming a princess? How do you feel about it now?

Get ready for the dullest answer ever provided: I had no strong feelings one way or the other. I love Twilight for who she is as a person, and I never suspected that would change after she became a princess. To me she was the same pony I've known and loved since the first episode. Granted, her transformation and the entire season 3 finale felt rushed as could be, which is the only criticism I have of this event. My feelings haven't changed.

What is life like as a MLPF moderator? What's the most memorable and/or most difficult moment you've experienced as a moderator?

Both tough question on many levels. I'll try to keep the answers simple so as not to bore or drag this thread off the rails.

Let's just say it's busier. "Life" isn't too different besides having to spend time sifting through the refuse that makes its way to the report center or mopping up an unexpected mess in a thread when you just went there to have a relaxing chat. Just some extra work, and of course the hate mail that one periodically gets. That's not too bad as I typically toss that on the backburner until I've had my fun anyway. All things in moderation. <------- That was a pun.

Hard to name a most difficult moment. Most memorable had little to do with the forum itself. Getting to meet most of the staff at BronyCon last year and spend so much time with them. Everyone was just as I had come to know them online and I wasn't surprised by this at all. I already had pretty strong bonds with several of them, and they were only strengthened during that time. Wouldn't have traded that for anything. Not being able to check in on the forum much during that time was a little disconcerting to me at first, but we had a few brave and dedicated individuals minding the store, which set my mind at ease.

It's about time we delved into another Mane 6 character! This time, we're going to have a look at our very glamorous fashionista, Rarity! Featuring a special guest interview with @Radiance64!

Rarity

How did you first stumble upon My Little Pony?

Well, I had heard about the fandom earlier in 2011, but it wasn't until late November of that year that I decided to give it a try to see what all the fuss was about. Wasn't sure I liked it at first, but after giving it some thought I decided that I loved it and have stuck with it since.  :)

What was the defining moment of you deciding on your favourite character, if any?
It was love at first sight pretty much! My first episode was Suited For Success actually, and seeing all the different layers of Rarity in there is what really cemented my love for her. Plus, she seemed to have a smaller fanbase at the time, so the fact that she was an underdog was a nice extra incentive to name her as my favorite.

Why do you love your character?
I love Rarity because of, well, so many reasons- she's a beautiful, fabulous pony who's no one else but herself. Her voice and way of speaking is incredibly unique and pleasent. She's the element of Generosity and is always showing it in both easily noticable manners and some that slip under the radar. Not to mention all the different layers of her personality and emotions- happiness, sadness, anger- she always goes for the drama, which in turn makes her one of the most entertaining characters to watch(if not the most entertaining overall for me). It's for all those reasons and more that I love her.

If you were to give out a few rallying cries to your fellow fans for the MLPF World Cup, what would you say and do?
In the spirits of fabulosity and generosity, we will destroy the competition! We come so far in other tournaments of this manner, and we've proven we can go far if we don't give up on her, and the more of us that devote ourselves to the cause, the more likely we are to go far, and the more likely we are to win! Let's do it!
As for what I'd do, well, all I can do is post as much support for her as I can, and that's just what I plan to do. Hopefully enough Rarity fans will be right there with me doing so as well.

Rarity's been given a potentially difficult group with Derpy Hooves and Sunset Shimmer in Group E. What makes Rarity stand out from the other two characters in Group E (No defamation of other characters please)?

It's easy to say what Rarity has compared to Derpy and Sunset- character development. I like Derpy, but in the end she's just a background character who got one speaking role one time, and the other was just a one-off villain character in a movie- Rarity is one of the Mane 6, a main character, and there's simply no comparison in that department from the other two. I'd say she has a much better character design as well, but aesthetic preference varies from person to person I suppose.

Congrats to Rarity for being one of the four semi-finalists in March Madness! What will it take for Rarity to reach the Finals and win the World Cup?

What it'll take is support. Lots of support. It's a bit more of an uphill battle for Rarity to get far in these sorts of competitions than more popular ponies of the Mane 6 like Twilight, Pinkie Pie, and Rainbow Dash, but it's been proven that it can be done. As long as our fanbase gets their support out there fast, across well, and in large numbers, I firmly believe Rarity will stand a shining gemstone of a chance.

It's the day before the 2014 MLPF World Cup, and we have one other Mane 6 interview available right now! That of Fluttershy and of the fan @Wingnut!

How did you first stumble upon My Little Pony?

I first came across My Little Pony back in 2011. I was looking at some random videos on Youtube and was looking at a series called Guile's Theme Goes With Everything. In one case, the climatic scene from Sonic Rainboom was dubbed with it. In fact, it's still available:

This was the very first G4 MLP related thing I ever watched and I remember thinking, "Wow, that was pretty intense for My Little Pony!"  :) But it wasn't until Thanksgiving 2011 when a longtime friend came to visit and insisted I watch the first two episodes of MLP:FiM with her. Then that weekend I watched The Mysterious Mare Do Well and I was thrilled that I had tuned in for another Rainbow Dash episode. This time the interest in MLP stuck and after catching a few older episodes on Youtube I was hooked!  :D

What was the defining moment of you deciding on your favourite character, if any?

When I first began watching MLP:FiM, my favorite pony was Rainbow Dash. Her physical ability, boldness, and that endless competitive spirit made her best pony in my eyes. But as time went on I began to notice the quiet strength possessed by another member of the Mane 6: Fluttershy. Briefly in Season 2, these two were kind of evenly matched. Rainbow Dash was shown to have some confidence issues in Sonic Rainboom and The Mysterious Mare Do Well. It was something to watch her beat those. But in Hurricane FluttershyRainbow Dash's childhood friend had to overcome not only lifelong psychological demons but a substantial physical disadvantage as well. Fluttershy's ability to surmount all of that is what put her ahead for good and she has been my favorite pony ever since.

Why do you love your character?

What's NOT to love about Fluttershy?  ;) She is very cute, kind, caring, etc. I agree with all of that. Those are all the good and obvious reasons to like her. But those aren't why I love her. Fluttershy is my favorite pony due to the amazing inner resolve one would never expect such a timid looking pony to possess. It is always a herculean task for her to tap into it, but she has done it time and time again. And the most fascinating thing about it is that she doesn't do it alone. It's because Fluttershy has her friends to turn to for support. It is their love and aid that enable her to reach down deep and pull out that magical will to prevail when all odds are against her.   :yay:

If you were to give out a few rallying cries to your fellow fans for the MLPF World Cup, what would you say and do?

Just what is it that spurs Fluttershy on to perform those incredible feats?  Conventional cheering, hooting, and hollering just seem to inhibit rather than help her. Instead, strong but quiet gestures of support work the best. Remember the way Twilight Sparkle got her to finally enter the twister by lifting a pair of goggles to her or how Rarity gently helped Fluttershy deal with stage fright in Filli Vanilli. So most likely I will just be in the stands giving my hero a wave and a little *yay* once in awhile. Fluttershy will know I'm there and that's all she needs.  :)

Kind of disappointed the one who was asked to provide the interview for AJ didn't get around to it, was really looking forward to it. If I didn't provide one for the G&PT I'd gladly do one for best pony AJ.  :muffins:

@Stellafera, @Noire Panzer, and @Lightwing are all good candidates since they are very active in the AJ fanclub. I've not seen  around much, but anyone who declares their loyalty to AJ is alright in my book.  :derp:

I vote this ! Interview Stellafera :D

@Sterling CrimsonI have to agree with him - Stellafera has been extremely invested in this tourney and deserves to be interviewed. I can't help but notice that you've only interviewed Moderators, and I'm about 99% sure we're awaiting an interview from Sugar Cube. Give a regular member a chance to shine, especially when she's done so much to help out with your tourney :D

Maybe you could interview a few different people?

Here's a good idea, too - you can interview a few notable fans from each of the major fanbases. Let's face it, you've interviewed exclusively moderators thus far, and that's really just unfair to the dedicated fans who aren't in positions of power in this site, like @Champion RD92,@Noire Panzer@Lightwing@Obsidian Sky@SnipSnap@Frostgage@Anileweand others - there's a lot of fans who have all shown paramount levels of dedication to our best ponies, but we really kind of all got shafted for mods, man. While it's your interview process and you can do what you want, I can't help but feel there was a bit of an ulterior motive to the people you interviewed, given the pattern of positions of power and the large, large selection you have of dedicated fans. I gotta say, man, maybe interviewing a few major fans from each of the larger fanbases in order to keep everyone - from mods to men - feeling involved rather than just picking the people with purple names would've been a better option. I can't help but feel that the way you selected your interviewees was a bit unfair in that regard :\

Of course, it's your interview process and I'm at no liberty to change any of that, but I've heard people talking about this quite a bit and I just thought I'd weigh on it some.

All of the Mane 6 interviews has been answered by moderators, and even an admin, but what people wants to see is a normal member talking about different ponies.

@Anilewe,@Noire Panzer,@Stellafera,myself,and more, are good candidates to be interviewed as Applejack fans.

My vote would personally go for @Stellafera,but a group interview wouldn't be a bad idea

Personally, I don't mind what happens, but I do kind of have a problem with the fact that it's only moderators being interviewed. It comes across like the regular people are getting shafted because we don't hold those positions of power :\ I appreciate the work the mods do and all (sometimes) but let's face it, man, it's only been mods interviewed thus far, and I feel that's a bit unfair :\

I'd like to see Stellafera take the AJ fan spot more than anything. She's put in a lot of work to help out with this tourney, going as far as to make a PMV for this tourney on top of rooting for her best pony. She honestly deserves it, and it really wouldn't bother me if group interviews didn't happen, since that was an honest suggestion to help regular members feel more included, but I really don't think the AJ person has time on their hands for this, and I feel like she's earned it. :D

Totally agree, AJ is a hardworking pony and @Stellafera has exemplified her best pony brilliantly in this tourney. Lets give her the chance to shine :D
