Does Discord still have powers?

Okay, so before anyone gets mad-this is how this thought occurred to me;

 

In the finale, with the help of Rainbow Power the Mane Six travel through Equestria returning magic to all of it citizens.

 

But, while they are headed into Twilight's castle Discord is seen walking instead of flying as he had in the past;

 

 

The only magic he utilizes appears to be a result from the remaining Rainbow Power; 

 

 

In the scene where he presents a bouquet of flower to Celestia, they only share the colors of Rainbow Power/The Mane Six;

 

 

I also do not recall anyone returning his powers to him once they have been 'Rainbow-fied'

 

In addition, it seems like the only practical way to make Tirek a legitimate threat in these episodes without Discord defeating him with a snap of his fingers was to make Discord question his friendship and ultimately betray his friends before have his own magic drained.

 

This-if true, would also appear to be a way to avoid him being able to poof away any future threat and avoid having to make him play the same role in the future for the sake of letting the villain have more screentime and be built up as a threat.

 

Now, I could be wrong-but, there it is.

Yeah, that's why I'm curious if that's the angle they are going with in Season 5-or if there just wasn't enough time left in the episode to clarify it...

That thought didn't even occur to me xD

 

It may turn out that his power source has changed. Perhaps by building "rainbow power" from scratch (if his original magic is missing) or converting his "chaos magic" (which takes time to adjust to; like Zuko from Avatar). A sudden change in nature could make it harder to control.

 

The next season seems to follow the Mane 6 spreading friendship across Equestria, so the trials they face may be more interpersonal than anything.

 

If another villain appears, I'd expect the Mane 6 to work together in a whole new way. Totally depends on how they spin things though.

 

Discord may not even have arcane magic anymore. That'd be kinda poetic. Once alone with immense power, but now happy with the power of friendship.

He probably still have his powers but his magic could be made stronger thanks to the rainbow power since he finally understood and taken in the lessons he learned from the Magic of Friendship but as Starlight Sky pointed out, his arcane magic could be altered in a matter of time now that he's finally accepted friendship into his heart.

I think either his magic was returned or he'll be able to use Rainbow Power now. The latter would be perfect for his permanent return to good (well he was never really evil to begin with), since he would no longer have chaos magic, but magic that comes from good.

 

Then again, Discord wouldn't be Discord without chaos.

I personally don't believe that Discord would lose his powers. It seemed that when the ponies were rainbowfied, it was implies that everyone gained their "powers" back. ^^

Well, I don't see why he wouldn't get his powers back, I assumed he got them back when everypony else in Equestria did. Why is not flying such a crime though? I don't see Rainbow Dash or Fluttershy flying. It's a coincidence surely!  

Edit: There is no doubt that when a new villain comes, Celestia will assign Twilight to one of her "tests".

I don't see why he wouldn't have gotten them back. He didn't ask for them at the end, and everypony in Equestria got them back.

 

And he obviously created his bouquet thanks to his magic.

@@Blobulle, Discord's off screen when they appear, so we don't know 

 

A reason he wouldn't get them back...unicorns/alicorns restored arcane magic, pegasi restored flight magic, and earth ponies restored earth pony magic. If you can only carry compatible energy, they may not have brought his back. The other princesses regain their magic in Tartarus, so maybe Discord also did. Strange to say the Tree of Harmony restored chaos (on a surface level), but his change of heart could've influenced his magic.

 

He probably did. Magic cannot simply disappears into thin air (at least in the princesses case), so Discord's magic is probably out there. Tirek was shrunk down to size before being sealed in Tartarus...partially anyway. If he still had Discord's magic, he'd probably be bigger. Now I'm wondering why he's still that large though. Gradual degeneration from here on? 

 

As for why Discord didn't fly, maybe he wasn't sure how to feel/act after what he did. Just deep in thought. May not have been addressed it because there isn't anything to address.

 

Whichever way it's spun is fine. I personally love the idea of Discord losing his powers though. It's perfectly poetic

Discord losing his powers would take away from his character, part of Discord's charm is his magic and unpredictability.

 

Like others said above me, he likely got his magic back when everyone else got it back as well. (He did create the flowers) And Discord, now really being reformed, may be more cautious/more restrained using magic in front of others.

This has actually occurred to me a few times since the finale, but after thinking about it for a while, I have three theories.

 

1: He didn't get his powers back and will have them returned in the premiere when he does something selfless. Don't know how exactly that would work into a plot, but it's just a small theory.

 

2: He did get his powers back and was simply deep in thought.

 

3: He did get his powers back, was deep in thought, and his chaotic magic is now compatible with order. That way, if he has to work with the Rainbow Power, either he won't be turned to stone or the stone will break after a minute or so. That would also show that he is truly good now, if the Rainbow Power doesn't work on him.

I hope not. He just wouldn't be the same Discord I know and love! Well, I guess he would be but just without his magic. He would have to express himself like a boring normal person.

 

Actually, I agree with @. I don't see why he would not get his powers back. Tirek was defeated, and, therefore, all of the stolen magic was returned to their rightful owners.

Also...why would being good make him hide his magic. Perhaps not showy, but why hidden?

 

 

 

 

I have three theories.

 

I like theory #1. Whatever happened, it'd be nice to touch on the answer there and see what he'll do in season 5.

Can't say it proves he made them though. Pulling out an unseen item is pretty common.

 

Plus, time doesn't always match our perception of it; especially during a song.

When Tirek was defeated, every pony's magic who was stolen from got it back. Discord is certainly no exception to this. Plus, he learned how wonderful a true, lasting friendship is. Surely he would get his powers back after learning his lesson? Otherwise, he wouldn't be what he is anymore.

Discord is the GOD of Chaos, he can't be the God of Chaos without his powers, even if he is reformed. Besides, he wouldn't be able to pop things out of thin air, like he does, with out his powers. He'd me a mere mortal without his powers.

I'm sure Discord got his powers back considering every one in Equestria and the princesses got their magic back, I loved when Discord gave Celestia a bouquet of flowers, that part was so sweet.
