  1. First off, Rainbow Dash and Gilda were friends from a long time ago, so Gilda could've changed since they last saw each other. And remember, this isn't the only time we've seen Rainbow pick a jerk as her best friend. With Lightning Dust too, we see Rainbow picking a friend because she's the coolest and the best, and we know Rainbow loves to hang out with great flyers who can show off and challenge her in the sky. But with both Gilda and LD, she doesn't openly see how their actions are hurting her friends and others until the end, and at that point is when she calls them out. You're correct, Rainbow isn't so self-centered and oblivious to have such a jerk as her best friend. Once she sees their true actions towards others, she makes the right and loyal decision and sticks with her friends. Does this only apply to mammals? Because who knows if Gilda would experience the same thing, considering she's only half mammal. Since she has the head of an eagle, one can reasonably assume her brain is quite different from any other ponies, and she'll act and interpret things differently than them.
  2. Yes, there definitely were slight redeeming factors that saved it a little. I thought the Mane 6 were perfectly in character the entire time, and I enjoyed them and their miscellaneous antics more than the plot of the actual episode.
  3. Right, so it all just depends on how the calling out is done. In MMDW's case, their intentions are good, they just needed to handle it in a better, more subtle or sensitive way.
  4. I really, really hope it turns out well. Taking a loved villain and reforming them can go wrong in so many ways. It brings up so many questions. How will they bring discord back? Why would they want to? Why pick fluttershy? If they succeed in reforming him, will he be a recurring good character in the show now? Will he end up as another Tank or Peewee and never be seen again? Does he actually want to be reformed (I doubt that)? I think it's great that he's coming back, but I really, really hope they don't screw up his character at all. It could be an amazing episode, or it could be a flop. I suppose he's returning to show that even villains should get another chance and can see the magic of friendship (but didn't Trixie already kinda do that), but I guess we'll just have to wait and see!
  5. I have loved every episode so far with the exception of Spike at Your Service. Other than that, I think every episode has been spot on! Also: http://mlpforums.com/topic/43778-oh-noes-the-quality-is-spiraling-downwardo/ (basically the same topic as this one)
  6. I was referencing that. Though to your point of an apology is better than calling someone out, sometimes you have to call someone out to get them to apologize. Sure, it was kind of an abstract intervention, but without her friends actions in MMDW, do you think Rainbow would've ever realized her misdoings and apologized?
  7. They'll corner her and teach her a lesson Kite Runner style. Oh goodness, I'm not sure whether I want people to understand that reference or not...
  8. I would have a quiet, shy character like Fluttershy chew out characters like Rarity and Pinkie Pie for their frivolousness and for pushing her around.

  10. This is one of the few times I've been able to say I honestly did not like an episode, and the for first time in Season 3. This episode had some maaajor inconsistencies that I just can't overlook. Someone's already made a topic about how Spike's Dragon Code doesn't fit with other episode, and that bugged me a lot. His uncharacteristic clumsiness as well. But what struck me even more then that, and I don't think I've seen anyone point this out yet, is how easily Spike left Twilight. In The Crystal Empire Part 2, Spike looks into Sombra's magic door and though we don't see what he's seeing, we hear him saying "Please, I don't wanna go! Twilight, don't make me!" with tears in his eyes, as though Twilight has just fired him from her service or is forcing him to leave. Twilight then describes the door as "a door that leads to your worst fear." SPIKE'S WORST FEAR IS HAVING TO LEAVE TWILIGHT. But then, he gets his life saved by Applejack, gets a few inattentive grunts from Twilight, and he ditches her without any real fight. Sure he had tears in his eyes, but he didn't beg and plead like he did in the Crystal Empire. In fact, in the next scene he seemed perfectly okay that she had just let him go. This episode really fell through for me unfortunately, ending Season 3's streak of excellent episodes...
  11. I honestly didn't like this episode at all... Definitely my least favorite of Season 3 so far, and I very rarely dislike this show! The plot was cliche and unoriginal, and nothing too special happened in it. We just saw basically 20 minutes of Spike being uncharacteristically clumsy, with an ending that felt forced and rushed. I completely missed what the message at the end was. Was it that you should ignore your own personal code and morals for the convenience of your friends? If there was a message, it went completely over my head. His Dragon Code came out of nowhere and didn't fit with other episodes, and his actions regarding leaving Twilight weren't consistent with what he said and did in The Crystal Empire Part 2 (as I'm making a topic about right now). Highlights of this episode for me: Pinkie's usual antics. The mustache was funny, but her acting (or lack thereof) while they were running from Twilight's Timber Wolf just cracked me up Spike's belly is now a bongo drum. Plus being a lighter, he's becoming a Swiss-army Dragon. Water skis are now canon. I wonder what they use to pull themselves over the water? Rainbow writing fics about herself I would read it! Using Twilight's OCD to free her from book land Other than that, it was a bad episode to me. Was anypony else wondering what Spike meant when he said "I must serve her for the rest of my natural born days."? What does he mean by natural born days? The Timber Wolves animation style was an interesting change of pace, but I don't think I enjoyed it... They just seemed so out of place! It was good to see them again, but if they're about and howling, does that mean it's almost time for Zap Apple season again? Also, I guess Timber Wolves can now turn into a Magazord? Unfortunately, I can see lots of Spike and AJ shipping and fan-fics to come from this episode, especially from when he was scratching her back...
  12. I agree, this definitely bothered me too as I watched the episode. However, if I may offer a possible explanation. Because Spike had never had any major interactions with dragons that we know of at the time of Secret of my Excess, it's possible he didn't know about the dragon code at that time. After Dragon Quest, he decided he should make his own. Or, he saw how lawless and immoral the dragons in that episode were, so he made his own code then to set himself apart. Thus, it's a code he hasn't had all his life, but only for a short while.
  13. Reminds me of the description of this wonderful video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kCvUAcbriY "Without their manes, tails, eyes, etc. to identify them, each of the mane six are built on the same stock model. So how are they so vividly, unmistakbly unique in all our minds? Twilight, the powerfull yet neuotic bookworm, Rainbow Dash, the brash cocksure speed demon, Fluttershy's gentle shyness and overall fear of being noticed, powerful Applejack, party-time Pinkie Pie, Rarity's love of the spotlight... Charaters all brought to life so vividly through animation and personality. Personality I tried to emulate through the basic shapes and elements that make up each character. I wanted their personalities to read though the shapes, and really a thank you to the animators for putting so much heart into these stupidly cute, scaled-down horses."
  14. How do you rank the songs from season 3 so far? Of the 5 we've heard so far, this is my list: The Success Song Babs Seed The Ballad of the Crystal Empire Raise This Barn The Failure Song What are your feelings? And to clarify, I've loved all of these songs, just some more than others.
  15. Granny Smith hid or destroyed any photos with Applejack and Applebloom's parents in them after they both died in order to prevent either of them from relapsing into the shock and trauma they went through in those times.
  16. I think Pokemon Snap would be amazing with new graphics on the 3DS or the Wii U. I've heard mixed feelings about the N64 version, but I personally loved it!
  17. I recommend redbubble. It's where I got a few of my shirts, and they have a huge selection of shirts mostly made by bronies. You'll find many unique shirts that you won't find anywhere else. http://www.redbubble.com/explore/mlp
  18. 1) Buy online 2) Use an excuse of a little sister 3) Realize that the people working there see so many people buying weird stuff that they really don't care It definitely was hard the first time I went out to buy something, but over time it gets way easier.
  19. http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_ponies#Fiddlesticks There ya go, her name is Fiddlesticks. And to answer someone's question above, she does appear in Luna Eclipsed, though in some sort of scarecrow costume.
  20. I vote Pinkie just because it's so easy to cross over that thin line between hilarious party animal and obnoxious hyper thing.
  21. Also, Discord realized that Spike is best pony, so wanted to keep him sane in hopes of one day converting him to his chaotic ways.
  22. Discord didn't believe in the power of friendship, and thus ignored the little things like Spike that he never thought could harm him that eventually brought his demise.
  23. I got several packs of trading cards, a Rainbow Dash shirt and a Fluttershy figurine from my sister, and I bought a Friendship Express for my little cousins who I've gotten interested into the show! Oh, and I gifted to myself one of the "Cloudsdale set" with RD, Gilda, and the Wonderbolt Surprise. Merry Christmas and happy Hearths Warming to all!
  24. ^This. How can we as a fanbase preach love and toleration when we can't even forgive a young filly in a cartoon who wants to change her ways? It's different when you have a villian like Discord, who enjoyed chaos and making ponies miserable for fun. However, in the cases of Babs, Trixie, and even Luna, who apologized and saw the error of their ways, they should be forgiven.
  25. I didn't cry, but it broke my heart when Fluttershy just chewed out Rarity and Pinkie in Putting Your Hoof Down. But I'll be completely honest, I cried at the end of this FiW episode. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_f6pDBkNlo
