  1. Yeah i may do a little video just breaking down how we did the different elements of that track as it was pretty interesting getting the different effects and elements to work. Basically a combination of 2 different drum kit libraries in tandem, 2 bass elements too. (not live, but no loops, but kontakt libraries). Andante did the tremolo guitar and we double tracked it with a sidechain to an inaudible kick track and at opposing times so that its constantly going back and forth between the hard panned left and right channels. We did 2 sets of the "wailing guitar" one by Zatslol and one by myself, reversing the guitars, adding long reverb, reversing back, and adding another long reverb. Finally Zatslol does that amazing guitar chorus which really made the track come alive and a fair amount of delay and reverb on that. I doubled his vocals up with different takes (which were very much in sync) during the chorus parts and with varying delay to make a bit more anthemic. A bit of work but a lot of fun to replicate a classic track that's almost impossible to duplicate well in a live environment. Very glad you enjoyed and thanks for the comment!! So new Maressey track out, this one far peppier and a bit more stripped down (only 1 of everything; gtr, drums, bass): Braeburn is transporting a cart of apples to Canterlot as his wagon breaks down. And who should come to his rescue? But a particularly charming white mare in a wagon on her way back to Ponyville. This is Maressey's third track and a tribute to our beloved Rarity and the chance meeting between the element of generosity and our rustic stable boy. Vocals for this track are by the amazing Morte McAdaver who helped come up with the Maressey project a good 2 years ago and he returned to help see it come to fruition. All the rest of the instruments are done by Johnny Mare who helped truly launch this project too by working on the instrumentals for 10 of our songs. He's a long time Smiths fan and not even a brony.. A huge thanks to his generosity in making this project happen. And I did the mixing, mastering, and organizing of this project. Like any track each one brings up little different things to juggle so all the elements work in tandem together. Been learning quite a lot more about production then when i started. If you like it let us (and maybe EQD) know. Cheers!!

  3. Will do, thanks!! New track out This is the tail of the lonely brony, someone who wanted friendship but was to shy to attain it. Probably plenty of such people out there sadly. It's also the second Maressey track and a ponified cover of the The Smiths original. Credits: This is Zatslol's second vocal appearance for us and he did the fantastic chorus guitar and part of the reverse reverbed "siren" guitar. https://www.youtube.com/user/zatslol Andante Skie did the tremolo guitar throughout the track (sidechained to the 1/2 drums he also added). https://www.youtube.com/user/AndanteSkie And I Freewave did the rest of the stuff 1/2 drums, 2 basses, part of the siren guitar, additional instruments, and mixing. Was a lot of fun doing all the different parts for a track that has a load of complicated effects to replicate. No sampling done https://www.youtube.com/user/thefreewave Woot
  4. Nope never happened. I actually used to take 2 public bus lines with a transfer to go to school by myself. Not sure I'd do the same thing in this day and age but I'm not sure if it's more dangerous now or if we're more hyper aware of the worst of what can happen.
  5. Well i make music about MLP and have for 5 albums and nearly 3 years now. It's fun although the music community seems to be one of the weakest supported fandoms within mlp at this point. Too many well known people have left for non-pony shores and it seems most people have stuck to whom they still know or just don't tune in to the music side anymore. There's an interesting middleground to being known inside the smaller music community and yet unknown in the larger community sense (a background pony basically) that I've seen a lot of people fall into and that's a bit sad to see. Nonetheless I still enjoy the show and the fandom and will continue making music here until I've decided to finally hang up my hat.
  6. Look for fimfics RECOMMENDATIONS on this site (and there are already PLENTY of LONG threads with good suggestions). Asking for fics to avoid is encouraging people to troll other people's work and encourage negativity, some things we really don't need. Also that thumbs up / thumbs down ration on any story can be important and you should always fimfiction itself as a tool rather than one person's opinion. That said i hated Twilight's Dollhouse but liked the author's prior work and that had a large following and few downratings despite its poor storytelling. Best thing to do is if a story starts bad ,and stays bad, don't ride it out in hope that it will turn around. I may echo that the overall plot and theme is what keeps me from reading that one (AND THE LENGTH) but by god if that isn't a popular story. Pretty weird to see this lumped in a worst category when its one of the most popular / famous fics.
  7. I like a great amount of the popular shippings as most of them are built with some sort of backstory in mind implied by cannon. The alternative is you have a load of ponies that only have friendship (or are lonely) and have nothing more and who wants that!?
  8. I hear Scotaloo and Rainbow Dash are a a fan of Dio's Rainbow in the Dark I'm sure Dash could be a hard rock fan. I'm sure Applejack would be some good southern rock (early Melissa Etheridge perhaps) Twilight would be complex post-rock / math rock Rarity might be artsy synth heavy stuff (due to her keytar). Maybe like Blur or Elastica Fluttershy i could see doing piano based rock. Tori Amos, Keane, Coldplayish Pinkie Pie would be doing pop-punk perhaps. No Doubt ish My thoughts
  9. Wonderful blog post. I think many people forget that part of making art (even freely given) is getting postitive feedback and some small form of notoriety. Otherwise it seems our creations and ourselves barely cease to exist. Not sure if you've read the Rarity chapter in the fimfic Background Pony but i feel its practically required reading by Rarity fans, as it really delves into who she is and why she does as she does. Really great deep reading.
  10. I'd recommend using MLR forum for asisitance as they've got a wide archive of music production threads. http://mylittleremix.com/ But people here are correct. You need to decide what DAW, what synths, what genre, etc and likely watch videos on how to use all those, play with them yourself, and spend a lot of agonizing time trying to figure out what you are doing. It's not easy but hopefully you may find it's fun.
  11. Two more tracks, both from Remix Wars And Maressey kicks off this week too http://mlpforums.com/topic/108880-the-maressey-project-kicks-off/ Hope you enjoy oh barren thread.
  12. The Maressey Project kicks off this week. Hope you get your interest piqued for more music to come from an array of brony musicians involved. Hopefully weekly if things remain stable. ps Luna Jax has currently dropped out but Faux Synder and Simul have joined on with our group. More info here. http://mlpforums.com/topic/108880-the-maressey-project-kicks-off/ Wooot. Now enjoy some Flutterfish.
  13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pj1sAerpvZw&feature=player_embedded Maressey - Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want Twilight’s been through a lot through four seasons and the finale brought up how important it is to have a purpose and goals you personally want to see happen. Not to stand around and have things happen to you but to choose your own destiny. This is our first Maressey track based on that theme, a group project we’ve been very excited to see fulfilled as well after a few years of planning. It’s our dream to get people interested in mixing the power of The Smiths songs within the characters of the MLP universe. We hope you enjoy this starting point and tune in for new weekly songs from an array of brony musicians taking part in tackling an amazing catalog of songs. Whether you’re currently a Smiths fan or not (or an MLP fan or not) we hope to tune you in to one of the best songwriting groups in music through our covers/parodies/tribute and do our part in merging and honoring 2 fandoms simultaneously. "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want" is of course originally performed by The Smiths. It was released as the B-side of "William, It Was Really Nothing" in 1984 and later featured on the compilation albums Hatful of Hollow and Louder Than Bombs. You can get the original tracks here https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/the-smiths/id829538 This is a slightly ponified cover track of their original. Our tumblr is here for news, questions, and updates http://maressey.tumblr.com/ Vocals and acoustic guitar by the amazing Zatslol. He really has been instrumental in tackling our first pair of songs so enthusiastically. https://www.youtube.com/user/zatslol Additional music, mixing, and coordination by me (Freewave) https://www.youtube.com/user/thefreewave Art credit goes to Harwick (thanks so much) http://harwicks-art.deviantart.com/art/Alicorn-Pipes-458458383 Hope people enjoy this track, get excited on the prospect of more tunes by a variety of brony musicians, and take the time to subscribe. We hope to have tracks come out weekly as we work on them. ps Luna Jax has currently dropped out but Faux Synder and Simul have joined on with our group. 14. Hey got my first video from my 5th album. Enjoy some shoegaze (err hoofgaze?).
  15. Ok first single is out. It's some exotic shoegaze. Also the Maressey project should start putting out its first track relatively soon
  16. Got my FIFTH album out! Hope you check it out!

  17. Songs of My People by Freewave Welcome to my FIFTH album, this time a whole album centered around the guitar. I’ve done a fair amount of EDM over the last couple of years but i finally wanted to do an album around all kinds of other genres; alternative rock, shoegaze, surf rock, heavy metal, folk, funk, blues, and country. Stuff you don’t always see too many bronies doing. This gave me an opportunity to try more song writing, production, and singing this time around. I’m still learning but this was a fun new project. Some tracks are remastered oldies but many are brand new tracks. As always this is a free release, but If you can throw a few bits my way to cover upcoming convention and bandcamp expenses it would be greatly appreciated. I hope you enjoy! credits A big thanks to several friends who helped out on vocals and more: Evdog, Julian Moon, SylverLining, Terolie, Mathematicus, Bloo, and AndanteSkie.
  18. Oh i made my own oc theme awhile back although it's also about my daughter too http://freewave.bandcamp.com/track/freewave-in-equestria-coming-home Never did the video I just assumed that youtube would detect and shut it down cause of the sample.
  19. They are connected though and they do have the legal right to go after the fanbase if we infringe on their trademarks on a case by case basis. Hasbro doesn't have to tell them how to do their job or who is the exception if Jan actually didn't have permission to infringe and did so. The take away of this is not that "we can do whatever we want" as a fanbase. My advice to you: Stay Calm and Flutter on or you can run around and pretend the sky is falling, your choice. I think whipping up internet drama is one of the worst decisions that bronies continue to do and you're doing that right now. Just chillax and try not to instigate the storming of the Hasbro castle. It's a waste of time and energy to focus on the negative when we have it so good.
  20. If we can perhaps be shown in a positive manner by a big network. Say Raj becomes a brony in an episode of the Big Bang Theory maybe we can be accepted more. Or more of a presence at San Diego Comic Con and general comic cons for example. All that most people think of when it comes to furries was that old CSI episode of people in fursuits and fornicating in hotel rooms sadly. It's going to take some patience, time, and hopefully some positive news from the mainstream media. More celebrities coming out to support us never hurts as we're still a very small, very new fanbase compared to Harry Potter, Star Wars, Dr Who, and other "cooler" nerd culture. When i was collecting comics decades ago i never assumed that superhero movies would be the biggest money making films of all time and NOW they are. Things change over time.
  21. Most fanworks are not touched by the Hasbro legal wing and they often leave us alone despite every opportunity to use their copywritten and trademarked property.. Jan animations may be an exception but i believe he was using the flash puppets that are still Hasbro property and they were still identical to Hasbro's animation style. This fandom is not dampened by Hasbro's lax copyright protections its allowed us to thrive and floursih over the nearly 4 years we've been here. If you don't like that, you can see how other fandoms "Harry Potter" / "Disney" have much less freedoms over fan content then we do. Hasbro also could have a field day going to bronycon and insisting for all the liscencing they are due on artwork, plushies, music, and the like. Fans don't pay a cent to Hasbro on many of these products and no one says a word. Again, it's not that bad at all how Hasbro hasn't been agressive with copyright. . So instead of throwing a tantrum about how Hasbro owes YOU something and needs to change their ways why doesn't the op give a little love and tolerance to the company that makes this whole fandom possible? If Hasbro made a mistake they'll deal with it with Jan but they still had EVERY legal right to do so. There's no reason to create more controversy and to try to fan the flames of brony drama. :okiedokielokie:
  22. A lot of people don't know his vast drama filled background and how many people have given him second chances over the years. The fact he came back after a year and a half vacation and started pointing fingers at Mandopony is terribly hypocritical and attention bating. This is unfortunately the downside of love and tolerate is that he's allowed to continue his theatrics while generally not called out for it.....maybe this time people will have had enough of the senseless drama and childish attitudes. We'll see.
  23. Yelling at Cats is pretty well known for a laundry list of things he's done to piss off the music community. From blamed for stealing funds at an early bronycon, showing up at EFNW drunk, late, and cussing through his set at an all ages performance, to beefs with Swagberg, MicTheMicrophone, and many other musicians...it's par for the course. It's well known that he's quite toxic in the community and attention seeking sadly. [ Why he has a beef with Mando I'm not quite sure. Reading up on his facebook YAC blames it on being snubbed and blocked when he tried to give Mando some critique awhile ago.. Does a year and half absence from rapping and MLP need YAC to return for a Mando diss? Nah. Rap about some ponies for a change if you want to stick around YAC. This is horse drama at its worst sadly. If all YAC wants to do is do diss tracks now he shouldn't even bother coming back. :okiedokielokie:
