  1. I'm glad you're having such a great time! I envy you the chance to spend time with so many other people from this fandom. We have a few pop culture conventions, but there's no pony cons in WA. Maybe one day I'll scrape together the money to travel.
  2. Australian here. Our national anthem is boring as watching paint dry in slow motion. :okiedokielokie: I think this clip by Adam Hills adequately sums up my feelings about how we could fix this:
  3. @@LiraCrown, I can't blame you! Once you arrive, this place wraps itself around you and your life, slowly engulfing you... You've reached terminal velocity. You've passed the event horizon. You can never escape. I, um, I mean... This is an absolutely awesome site and I love it and everypony here.
  4. That's lovely! The darker, muted colours are wonderful, it makes the different squares really unified where they'd otherwise be way too bright. It makes your profile look really nice.
  5. I'm not usually a huge fan of the comics, they're kinda hit and miss for me, but... That. Was. Awesome! AND it had a pair of Crystal Unicorns in it! Which seem to be every bit as rare as I'd always headcanoned. I'm still on the fence about whether I consider stories as presented in the comics canon or not, but I'll happily gobble up bits of world building like that.
  6. SO. MUCH. PASTA IN MY FREEZER.

      Sounds like dinner to me!

      Seriously, I love pasta! <3

  7. I just got told by a Year 11 boy I've never met that, while he doesn't do performing arts, he's seen me around the performing arts centre, and he just absolutely HAD to inform me before the end of term that he LOVES the way I dress. xD Made my day!

Aww, such a sweetheart he is. ^^

From what limited stuff I've seen; I'd have to agree. ^^

  8. While I don't want to see the show's quality deteriorate either, plenty of TV shows have proven capable of carrying good quality forward through 7, 8, 9, even 10 seasons. Someone remind me again how many episodes of Nartuto there are? Even without counting the 'filler' seasons? I hope the show continues for as long as it is profitable, and as long as there are areas of Equestria left to explore. Even if the book is closed on the Mane 6 at some point, there's no reason we can't focus on the journeys of a different group of ponies from a different town. Writers don't just 'run out of ideas'. That's the thing about ideas. They're constantly being born. And if one writer loses inspiration, new writers with fresh perspectives can step up.
  9. Or, CRAZY THOUGHT: How about we teach kids the difference between video games and reality, and that while fantasy violence is acceptable, real violence is not. Seems a lot more useful in the long run than censorship ever proves to be.
  10. Discord is an overwhelmingly large homage to 'Q'. Pretty much everything about the character is a reference. The chaos powers, the teleportation, the shape-shifting, the superiority complex, the complete lack of regard for things making sense, finding reality utterly boring... He pretty much is 'Q'. It's one of the reasons I love Discord so much.
  11. @@DashYoshi, @@~TheGammy~, @@1Bit, Thanks a lot! I'm really glad the emotion of the piece is coming through so strongly.
  12. I'd been wanting to create a piece like this for quite some time. This is probably set sometime during (or right at the beginning of) Sombra's takeover of the Crystal Empire.
  13. @@DashYoshi, Thanks so much! My style leans a little toward that of the G1 ponies, so it's not to everyone's taste. I'm glad you like it though.
  14. I had dried squid jerky when I was in Japan. I was at a fireworks festival, sitting with a group of local people who spoke next to no English. (We'd arrived on the same little bus from a town an hours drive away.) They kept feeding me all the local snack foods they'd bought with them, and I didn't want to appear rude so when they offered me the squid, well... I took a nibble. Then a bite. Then a bigger bite or several. And then I asked for more, because it turned out that stuff is seriously delicious! (It's too bad I can't find it back in Australia.) I think they were quite impressed, they probably expected me to chicken out. Japan also has awesome things like grape flavoured soft-serve ice cream, and a cold, sweet red-bean soup. Though that's not so much weird as it is just unusual by western standards.
  15. I think the topic was something along the lines of 'Why Do Female Fans Find Discord and Sombra Attractive', or something. Hilarious that this was the FIRST thread I gravitated to.
  16. @@Pulchritude, I adore her colour scheme! I don't seem to see too many white ponies around, and the braids are a lovely touch. Basically, I think her design is perfect. No need for changes there. I think I remember reading her backstory with the lice before you changed it. I will concur with the others in that the 'magical mane' meant the lice disaster was too easy for her to overcome, but I'm a little saddened to see you scrapped the lice story altogether. I thought it had great potential as a possible cutie-mark story. Just think - A lice infestation hits Longlock's hometown when she is just a filly. Longlocks, with her beautiful, squeaky clean mane, comes down with a terrible infestation. Nothing will budge them and her mother, with no other options, can only suggest cutting her beautiful mane off to rid her of the lice. Longlocks is completely horrified and runs away, determined to get rid of the lice her own way. Using everything she knows about the various shampoos her mother uses at the salon, she gathers a bunch of natural flowers and herbs and creates a shampoo which cures the lice problem completely. Ecstatic, she shares the shampoo with the rest of the town, gaining her cutie mark in the process. From that moment forward, she knew she was destined to be a manestylist, caring for the manes of other ponies. That would still work with the newer backstory you have, which could be after she left home to pursue her dream. Both of them together would give her a nicely fleshed-out story. :grin2:

    gaming Childhood game

This thing: (For the record, it doesn't resemble regular Tetris in any way, shape or form.) I was an absolute wizard at this game! I could flatten absolutely anyone who challenged me, and eventually my parents and brother just gave up trying. I still have it and my SNES, and occasionally I'll boot it up just to blitz through the little Player vs PC campaign. So much love for this game.
  18. I'm an introvert in that I prefer to work alone, but I present myself with a great deal of confidence and I like having my voice heard. (For all external appearances, most people assume I'm extroverted until they get to know me.) This wasn't always the case though. When I was in high school, I hated working with people I didn't know and very rarely spoke up when I was put in that kind of situation. It's actually an odd balancing act I now have to perform as a teacher. On one hand, you have students who thrive in groups and struggle when left alone. Then in many classes, there's that one student who simply can't work with anyone else in the class. I usually make group or pair work optional, so the extroverts can team up and the introverts can do their own thing. It's not ideal, but it usually works.
  19. Eugh, nope, it's gotta be warm for me. I take like, 30 minute showers. I do some of my best thinking in the shower. The water must help with problem solving or something. (Not to mention it's a pleasant way to ease myself into wakefulness in the morning, and sleepiness in the afternoon.) That said, I forgot to set my alarm yesterday and woke up WAY late for work. (Lucky I don't teach 1st period on Fridays.) I didn't have time for a shower, so I just stuck my head under freezing water to wet my hair. THAT woke me up pretty damn fast. Still had a crappy morning because I hate being rushed... but at least I didn't stumble into school half asleep.
  20. @@Odyssey, Thanks! Colours are by far my favourite part of the art process. (Your art is pretty gorgeous as well!)
  21. Doesn't want to mark assignments. Spends 6 hours drawing a pony instead. ?? Profit ...now I have to do all my marking tomorrow.
  22. I roleplay, I make my own OC's, and I write buckets of lore. I'm probably best known for roleplaying and lore writing on here. I also draw! My art isn't exactly well known, but that's mostly my fault; I don't have time to draw very often, and you really need to put out a high volume of work to gain much of a following. Still, I enjoy what I do, and that's good enough for me. :grin2:
  23. If I was questioned in real life I'd probably just say I'm a pony fan, but among bronies and online, I call myself a Pegasister. I like the word; I think it's cute. (It's also what my Year 8 jazz music class decided I was called when they caught me doodling a pony on the back of my answer sheet while I was giving them a theory test. Whoops.)
  24. His Dark Materials is not only an extremely gripping story, it has very powerful moral undercurrents. It's what first opened my eyes to the importance of self-determination; of humans having ownership over our own destinies, vs surrendering ourselves to fate or some higher power. The books also advocate the importance of knowledge and discovery; of the dangers inherent in believing everything you're told and following blindly rather than forming your own conclusions. I read it dozens of times as a teenager. Every time I did, I discovered something new. It has as many layers of meaning as the alethiometer on the cover. It's said the series is anti-religious. I don't believe that. To me it encourages critical thinking, and that doesn't necessarily equate to the same thing. The formalised religion as presented in HDM may be false, but Dust itself is written like something holy. A subconscious, natural kind of holiness that blesses life wherever it touches. Suffice to say, that series impacted me in a big way. And thanks for the compliment on my avatar! I drew that picture late last year. :grin2:
