What a week to sling some fun!  Shall we talk about it, my crowd?

 The biggest thing that happened was April Fools.  I got to do something different for once. I got to impersonate a friend of mine, and he impersonated me. Believe it or not, I had someone else in mind when I first came up with this idea. However, this other friend (who I won't name) just doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would have enjoyed this kind of thing. I am glad I chose my friend Steve instead.

 Not much happening beyond that. Sonic 2 is REALLY close to being in theaters here in America, but I heard it has all ready begun airing internationally. I am avoiding any early reviews because I want to see it for myself. I went to my favorite clothing store, but they didn't have what I want. My uncle surprised me by giving me some really awesome power tools. Last of all, I started a new cleaning project. In a few weeks, my mother's garage will be all clean. 

 [ 1 / 2 ] MOVIE TIME!  To start, I saw Venom 2: Let Their Be Carnage. f you loved the dumb fun of the 1st Venom movie, you'll love this one too. Any arguments about Cletus or Carnage being less than faithful to their comic book counterparts is utterly pointless since this incarnation of Venom is different from the get-go. In some ways, this movie is almost too similar to the first. You practically thank the plot when Venom and Carnage have their epic fight, which is clearly where all the budget went. And don't think I didn't notice that tongue & cheek nod to Gwen Stacy, as well as the trilogy bait. It's just a dumb fun time all around, but in case you're worried those similarities I mentioned, wait 'til you see the after-credits scene. That moment will you have you popping out of your seat, cheering! ...Well, if the internet hasn't all ready spoiled it for you. Let's just say it answers a lot of fan questions and makes some dreams come true.

 [ 2 / 2 ] I also saw Spider-Man: No Way Home. Never has a Spider-Man movie made me want more THIS much, yet left me sad knowing this is the end. Never has a Spider-Man movie made me feel both sad and proud that it ended this way. Admittedly, the first good half of the movie paints the following events in a bad light. It really is the picture of “you could have avoided so much if you just slowed down and actually talked things out”. However, what we got was so much more. We got villains with improved looks/costumes. We got a chance to save them rather than kill them off. We got Marvel/Sony's best kept secret. We got fan moments that we have been waiting for the movies to address for so long!! I am gushing because I want to say so much, but I want to give everyone a reason to watch it as well. Not to mention the after-credits scene, which finishes the story started in Venom 2 but leaves room for a sequel? Even though it makes no sense and I'm pretty sure there won't be? UGH!! So many conversations to be had about this. The ending alone is tragic, beautiful, makes me want more, and is a way better story than One More Day. I almost wish I had a spoiler-focused review just so I could talk for hours on end, but for now all I can say is... This movie is highly recommended.

 SUPERHUMAN SAMURAI SYBER SQUAD!  My thoughts:

• Episode 7, Kilo actually shows he has some standards, but Malcom shows he might actually be more of a genius than his Japanese counterpart by using computers to mess with Kilo. Also, WHY IS THIS EPISODE SO THIRSTY?! I can't remember how it went down in Gridman, but when you have temperatures of over 170, they should all be dead. Plot-wise, it's similar to Gridman Episode 8, but with environmentalism and trying to impress Jennifer since there is no brotherly feud. However, the monster footage is lifted from Gridman Episode 7. Surprisingly, they did save the monster for later, just like in the original show; AND THEY INCLUDED THE HEALING SCENE! Hard to pick which episode is better honestly, but Gridman 8 manages to sneak in the win. It's one of the better episodes, the threat of death is actually real there, and it's one of the better Gridman episodes too.
• Episode 8, I was initially surprised to see a bodyswap episode, something that has no Japanese equivalent in Gridman, until Kilo started using Malcom's body to announce who he is. The most annoying thing is that it ends without ANYONE from Team Samurai suspecting that Malcom might be in league with Kilo, and how did they know killing the monster would save Malcom? Monster footage comes from Gridman Episode 2. Both episodes have moments of “technology doesn't work that way”. They both use their footage to achieve different effects. However, I think Gridman 2 wins. I honestly have no idea what Kilo was trying to gain by becoming human, and I doubt Digifer would have wasted his time anyways.
• Episode 9, here we go again with a cold opening, this time with monster footage from Gridman 13! Plot-wise, it's a repeat of SSSS 7, but done dumber. This time the main monster footage and plot both come from Gridman 8. Also, they genderbent one of the monsters for some reason. Malcom, if you can upgrade monsters on the fly, why don't you do that more often? At least we got a healing scene. I seriously have no idea why they decided to retread the same plot but worse. Gridman 8 is the clear winner here, again.
• Episode 10, plot-wise this episode seems to be a combination of Gridman 30 and 35, with monster footage taken from Gridman 30. How sad to see that Kilo's priorities are all over the place. In SSSS 8, he vowed to destroy the world, now he wants to conquer it again. Holy moly, Malcom actually kissed brainwashed Syd! That's farther than Takeshi ever got with Yuka. Okay, it was dumb when Team Samurai couldn't figure out the obvious, but it's insulting when Malcom figures out who Servo is and tosses it away for no reason. But at least this episode was smart enough to do something Gridman didn't do, reverse manipulation on the digital world. No healing scene. ...WHAT?! Servo can attack Kilo through their two-way communication?! My brain is melting again, yet I'm probably the only one who noticed that Malcom's locker keeps switching sides. All three episodes are their own level of stupid, but I'll say either one of the Gridman episodes win, just because Malcom should be that stupid.
• Episode 11, we start off with another cold open of Gridman 13 (what's up with using 13 as a cold opening punching bag?). We see that Sam's wrist device has way more uses than Naoto's Acceptor. The plot and monster footage mostly come from Gridman 5. Odd time to give Tanker a food addiction, and an even more odd time to try and make him a secret inventor like Ippei. Also, forgot to mention, but the  news reporter is also a bigger reoccurring character than her Japanese counterpart. Ah, they might not kill dogs in this version, but they joke about eating them! The winner here is Gridman 5. They are both equally stupid, but by setting these events in a flashback makes it feel like this episode should have happened sooner.

 ReVice 26: Horns for Wings!  The latter half of this episode was kind of predictable. Daiji/Live managed to sacrifice his inner devil to become an angelic Kamen Rider. We all knew the good guy would be victorious. I wonder if this means the other Igarashi family members will also have the option to erase their inner devils? They've shown it can be done by now. The main attraction was the beginning of this episode. More exposition, and more characters have to make difficult choices. Wasn't even expecting Ikki's dad to have a different name previously. BTW, the power of a good story strikes again. I can hardly believe the show is half over! The story has been so engaging thus far, I barely even noticed. It's like time has just flown by~!

 ReVice 27: Weekend Get Away!  I love seeing a caring family reaffirm their familial love for each other. But as the old saying goes, sometimes we just can't have nice things, and that includes Vice. The family gets taken to the Weekend's HQ where their intentions are made transparent, all the while imprisoning Ikki because Vice seems to be especially connected Lord Giff more than the others. I am surprised by the serious issues this episode alludes to for Olteca's backstory. And as Vice loses more and more control of himself around Lord Giff, it's nice to see they are really building up ReVice's next form instead of getting it out as soon as possible. Might I also say, we have quite the interesting situation. We have Daiji/Live who is loyal to Fenix, Sakura/Jeanne who is become loyal to the Weekend, and Ikki/Revi who has made no hard loyalties to anyone other than his family. I hope Ikki stays that way and continues to be a free agent fighting for his own ideals.

 DonBrothers 04: Enigmatic Frenemies!  It's a bit much to keep up with since we now seem to be exploring the stories of multiple Rangers at once, but at the same time, we get a slower pace that really lets us absorb things. We can enjoy the changes into previous Sentai. We can enjoy how they aren't using giant robots every time. We can enjoy how we are earning that moment when they will finally be a fully realized team. We are learning to appreciate each character for who they are individually, as we should. Having a Red that wants to have a friendly duel with his companions is very interesting. Connecting OhRanger to Onigiri is weird, but the theme of triangles does hold up, and both words start with that “Oh” sound. Better than last week's MOTW anyways. And in closing, I am surprised it was Saru Brother that become a LupinRanger and Inu Brother that became a Ryusoulger instead of the other way around. I hope this creative choice is a sign of future story direction!

Well, this status update is a little late, but...

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

...I did absolutely nothing for this holiday. 

My mind goes to weird places sometimes, and also proves just how much of nerd I am...

For example, I recently had this thought:
If I was a part of a Super Sentai/A team of Power Rangers, which Ranger would I be and who (from this forum) would be my fellow Rangers?

Obviously, I'd be Red. It's my favorite, and I always wanted to be a leader. Even if I'm just a defacto leader, or the kind of guy that doesn't care about the leader title.  As for my teammates, well this was just a snap decision based on nothing in particular, but...

I'd like to nominate @Renegade the Unicorn and @TheRockARooster as the other two guys in the team; one of them as Blue and the other as Green. (I want the main 5 to be colorful, so no Black Ranger for now.) You both seem like awesome dudes that I could totally count on to have my back and kick some major monster butt!

As for the two females in the team to balance things out, I'd like to nominate @Sparklefan1234 and @Emerald Heart as Pink and Yellow; feel free to decide amongst yourselves who is who. I know Emerald has at least some experience in this genre since she likes the magical girl stuff (and it's really not that different), and I like Sparklefan's positive energy.

I was struggling on who to pick as the 6th ranger, but since we became friends recently, it became a no-brainer. I nominate @Nsxile as the 6th, preferably as the Ranger that starts off evil but then switches sides and becomes the best comrade ever! (I just don't know what color you should be. Silver? Gold? Black? Rainbow? Mixed Colors? Dark red? Please tell me!  )

As for the rest of my friends here, the rest of my crowd, please don't be offended that I didn't choose you!  There's still room for you as wel!!!
Plenty of Super Sentai's/Power Ranger teams have more than 6 rangers. In fact, in recent years, teams have been as big as 10 or more. (Not often, just a few rare times.) So if there are other color options, you might be perfect for it! Not to mention support characters that help out behind the scenes; those are just as important! They make the tech, come up with battle strategies, and give the characters mentor-level guidance when they aren't sure what to do next! 

So what do you think, my crowd? Like my choices? Hate 'em? Have I only proven how much a dork I am? If you don't even like Super Sentai/Power Rangers, I'd understand. I'm not asking you to be a fan, I was just thinking about this in a sentimental was is all... Yay teamwork?

How goes it, my crowd? 

It has begun to snow where I live, so now I have be on watch. The roads are dangerous, and I'm just hoping that it doesn't snow too heavily. Last year, it got so bad that it knocked out the power and the plumbing in Texas. Please no repeats. It's suppose to clear up by Friday, so I am hoping beyond hope that's true.

Also, my back hurts. I think I twisted or over extended badly last night.  Let's hope that clears up soon.

Hey there, my crowd. 

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there will be no Real or Fake game this week.
My state is not going through the best of times right now. Sometime after 3:00PM Central Standard Time, my power went out and stayed out for over 24 hours. Why? Because of a horrible snow storm that has effected the electricity and water. Utilities have been coming back online gradually, and it was just moments ago that I got my electricity turned back on.

However, we're not out of the woods just yet.
Forecasts say more bad weather is on the way, possibly more snow. If it doesn't get better, there could be more black outs and more cases of no running water. It's dangerous to go out as well because the roads are covered in ice and snow. Because of that, games aren't something I can realistically do right now. So if I'm gone or offline for long amount of time, now you'll know why. I am glad that I have this entire week off, but it means very little if I have to live like an eskimo.

Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. And thank you all for being awesome friends.

Things are about to get busy, my crowd...  Don't be surprised if I am less active in the days that come.

 The biggest news this week was the celebrating of one of my uncle's birthday!  While I am glad he enjoyed it, I think we all needed this. I worked hard on the main course, and my mother worked hard on everything else. There was some gift shopping. It was a little hectic, but I think we worked so hard that we didn't have time to feel anything bad. When we got together, we shared laughs had a truly good time. In this moment, it was easy to forget that my aunt is no longer with us. I'm going to do my best to make sure they keep feeling this holiday cheer and have little reason to feel sad.

 The days before the big birthday party, there was lots of shopping, most for Christmas presents. I did some, but I also helped my mother. We both had Friday off, so that gave us both some extra time to get it done. There was some frustrations, but we managed to get things done. Also, my computer desk chair broke. I am using a chair from the dinner table right now. It's okay, but it's not a long-term solution. I'll have to figure out what I want to do when Christmas is over. At least my back isn't killing me, though. 

 [ 1 / 2 ] And now... Christmas Movie Time!  Once more, I am on a mission to see every film adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" I can find; or at least which ones are available on free streaming platforms. So let's get into it as rapid fire as I can... “A Christmas Carol (1910)” This is not the first film adaptation of the classic Dickens tale, but considering how far back we're going, it might as well be. It's a silent film, and it's 10 minutes long. This isn't just a speedrun, it's telling the classic tale on hard mode! And somehow they managed to hit most of the major story beats, the only flaw is that they made the Ghost of Christmas Past & Present one spirit instead of two. Likewise, they could have used more dialogue cards. But none of that matters, because what they managed to throw in was impressive. You'd need to be familiar with the story before you see this, but it's still very impressive! “Scrooge (1935)” is a talkie, and while it does try to be very honorable to the source material, it does leave out some details (like the Surplus Population line, despite referencing it later). It does a good job of showing just how merciless Scrooge is and what made Belle fall out of love for Scrooge, at least.

 [ 2 / 2 ] “Charles Dickens' The Christmas Carol (1949)” Sorry Vincent Price, no amount of beginning narration can fix this. It's about as shortened and streamlines as the Disney version with Mickey and friends. So much was cut that it made me wonder if America was (at one time) given an altered or condensed version of the book. However, it did combine Scrooge's redemption arc by having him celebrate with Bob and Fred at the same time, which I am sure some people probably wanted to see. “A Christmas Carol (2018)” is the strangest adaptation I've ever seen. Set in the modern era, it changes things that shouldn't, and keeps things from the book that shouldn't. It proves that America is not the only one who can make a bad adaptation, but at least here they showed how Marley's rotten attitude affected Scrooge. “A Frozen Christmas Carol (2018)” ...No. Screw this version. It's not even a movie. It's not a bargain-bin movie. It's not even a tech demo. It's an audio book placed on top of a bunch of Christmas screensavers. You can find better Christmas Carol movies posted illegal and in full on YouTube. If I wanted the book, I'd get the book. (IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A CREDITS ROLL!)

 Zenkaiger 39: In One Year, Out The Other!  Other than the last split-second of the episode, this was just more filler and more build-up to actual plot. And considering there is only about 10 episodes left (give or take), it makes sense that the plot will start picking up about now. They really dragged out the story, and I do hate to see that on an anniversary series. Perhaps the pandemics really have affected things far more than we know. Can't say that any Zenkaiger movies will be better than the series at this rate, but maybe they'll find a way to surprise me. Also, do you really need the Gokaiger Gears to swap weapons? This feels like the lamest use of gears yet.

 ReVice 06: Insert Evil Lawyer Joke Here.  I'm not really sure what to think of this episode. It looks like Ikki/Revi's brother is the new evil Rider, and he has the ability to imitate the look of others, including fellow Fenix agent Hiromi. Or maybe not; perhaps Daiji has somehow gained a demon partner of his own that looks like an identical twin. Daiji might not even be aware of him! However, all of that takes a back seat to a story about a corrupt lawyer and a corrupt judge. A story that ultimate goes nowhere. I can't even call this episode a waste, if they are building up to something in the next episode. But I can't even tell because the Next Episode preview is giving me no clues! Guess we'll find out the hard way.

 TOKUSATSU MOVE TIME!  ReVice The Move: I Wish I Was Deadman. ...Seriously, someone put me out of my misery until I'm 6 feet deep. Something that is less than the length of your average TV episode has no business calling itself a movie. Even old school Sentai and Rider movies did better than this. And I could forgive it if they actually had a story to tell, but they didn't. It was as bland and as boring as possible. Apparently this is a special that aired before the Saber + Zenkaiger movie, a teaser to hype you up for when ReVice would eventually air on TV. So unless these events hold bigger significance in that crossover movie, this movie is utterly pointless. They don't even try to introduce you to these characters or give you a reason to care. The whole thing stinks of being put together last-minute. Maybe if I had seen it when it first aired in theaters, I'd be stoked. After watching 6 episodes of the series? I wish I hadn't even bothered.

Sorry, but I'll be making two Status Updates today.

Yesterday, I went silent because my grandmother's health took a nose dive. I got a call from my mother saying that she had to be transferred to ICU. There were moments where she felt like death was calling for her.

But I am glad to say that after having some more work done, she is making a recovery! Her health is showing huge signs of improvement.  The doctors have narrowed down the source of her health problems and they've also got her on the correct medicine finally. I might post more details this weekend, but I just wanted to let everyone know that she is doing fine right now and can't wait to get out of the hospital.

Gotta make at least one new Status Update everyday. Hmm...

Well, I phoned ahead, and unless something changes, I have the next two weeks off! 

I marathoned Steven Universe Future. The first 10 episodes nearly bored me to tears, but the last 10 really had me in tears of joy.

...Well, that's all I can think of.  Guess I'll go play solitaire or something.

Still snowing here. Not sure what Friday or the weekend will hold, but at least I've got tomorrow off!  It's just too dangerous to be on the roads right now. This is exactly why I say that snow should only be a December thing.

Thankfully, my back doesn't hurt anymore. However, the snow has triggered my allergies. I've got drainage and a sore throat now. I'm trying hard not to cough too much and to stay medicated. Ugh~ Snow is no good for fire types like me.

Hello my crowd.  How can one go from a good day to a terrible day?

Just yesterday, I was so excited! I saw teaser trailers for Sonic Prime, MLP G5, Usagi Yojimbo, Constantine, and the Weird Al biography movie. Not to mention, I've been finding a lot of good music lately. Things were looking up!

Then today happened. I REALLY don't think I did it because I wasn't mowing near my front door, but if I did, then that must have been one heck of a ricochet shot. The bottom glass pane on my screen door shattered today! So on top of wearing myself out from mowing a big lawn, I had to break and sweep away what remained of that pane, duct tape a trashbag over the opening, and start planning a way to fix this problem. I've always been told that glass was cheap and easy to get, but with the prices I've seen previously, it may be easier to just get a new storm door. I'll have to price them and see. ... Also, I cut my finger while sweeping away all that broken glass.

But I'll be fine. I am not sure when or how I'll fix the door issue, but I'll be fine. I could just really use as many hugs as possible right now.

The answer was A, "Watch out." Furthermore, the trick part is that some of the lyrics were altered. One of those alterations was a typo; completely unintentional on my part. Silly me!  Also, sorry this came out so late. I got so busy and distracted on Friday, I just ran out of time. Hopefully there won't be a repeat of that next week.

Sad to say the weather has been warming up. We had icy snow one day, then it heated up to the point where it all melted. I still wanted it to stay cool; I'm so tired of hot summer weather. But nature's gonna do what nature's gonna do. 

Ultimately, I decided to schedule that last operation after all. I've been feeling that pain in my side returning, and it's been sticking around for a few days. I hadn't thought of this as a possibility. I can't live with it if the pain is just going to be constant for a few days. I hate to pay for more medical work done, but there comes an eventual breaking point. And if the hospital accepts tiny monthly payments, what's a little more on my tab going to hurt?
