And you are being too harsh... 1) SciTwi is a recluse in High School. I don't know if you've been there, but I have. When you're left to your own thoughts like that you tend to make stuff without realizing what your making. Back in high school I was an amateur scientist in my garage and I constantly made things without fully understanding what they were. Beyond that scientists never have a full understanding when they first come up with something. When Einstein discovered that his theories had been used to develop an atomic bomb he was saddened by that development, Oppenheimer, another who helped develop the bomb was disgusted with it. To blame SciTwi for something she built based on theory and minor scan of an energy source that she didn't fully understand or could control is more than a little harsh. 2) Speaking as someone with Social Anxiety Disorder, SciTwi obviously has some sort of social anxiety, look at the way she reacts when people other than her brother or Dean Cadance talk to her. She is awkward stumbling over her own words and exceedingly shy. It's probably one of the reasons she wants the independent study program, she doesn't know how to interact with others, Not to mention when she starts meeting people who are genuinely kind to her other than the two stated previously, she inadvertently harms them and is visibly shaken by that. That would be enough to send someone with Social Anxiety into a downward spiral. 3) Sunset berating SciTwi, who by the way probably has Social Anxiety was already visibly shaken by what she had done and wanted to apologize, like that would not have helped. In fact it would have made her even more susceptible to manipulation by people like Principle Cinch and the students from Crystal Prep. Especially with Cinch also having been manipulating her this entire time, she would've been like putty. 4) Yes she should've talked to someone about this when she couldn't control the device, but who did she know that had any knowledge about what was going? Maybe Cadance was someone she could talk too, but that wouldn't really help as Cadance had no knowledge of the strange energy. Sunset Shimmer was her best shot, but Sunset was too angry at herself and lashing out at her to take the time to truly help. 5) Yes she put lives in danger... so did Twilight in both previous Equestria Girls movies. And that one actually knows how to deal with people, while SciTwi as I stated before, more than likely has a Social Anxiety disorder.

Why would FiM have to skip a whole season... so far the movies have taken place approximately at the same time as the corresponding seasons, I don't know about Season 5/Friendship Games timeline as I'm still catching up on Season 5, (Just watched Slice of Life last night) on Netflix since I don't get DFC. But Equestria Girls took place between Magical Mystery Cure and Princess Twilight Sparkle while Rainbow Rocks took place after Twilight's Kingdom. I'm assuming that Friendship Games takes place similarly after or during Season 5. With the fact that everything between "Best Night Ever" and "Make New Friends but Keep Discord" was over the course of a single year it would be simple to have a small time skip at Canterlot High and have the two shows run concurrently. A small time skip would also allow them to have stuff that happened between the movies and the start of a prospective series to keep a bit of mystery and intrigue about the characters and how the develop. But as I said before it would require a skilled writer to do so rather well. Also personally I'd like to see Discord show up at Canterlot High.

With the right writers and a decent story setup it would be interesting to have Equestria Girls get a spinoff. It would allow for more world building and we could see how the two worlds are different, especially now with magic in a world that previously had none. It could make for interesting plots. Especially now that Human Twilight has been introduced, yet Human Sunset still hasn't... hmm. Personally I would think they should think about making an interconnected Spin-Off allowing the two shows to crossover when needed or necessary a la Buffy-Angel in the early 2000's or Arrow-Flash currently. Having a story start in MLP or EG and then crossing over into the other one to see both sides play off each other would be nice.

Discord is kinda the reason I started watching Friendship is Magic. I was babysitting a friend's kid when I heard John de Lancie's voice and decided to watch as well. It was fun and interesting as if someone combined two of my favorite shows when I was little (Star Trek: The Next Generation and G1 My Little Pony), and I couldn't turn away. I began watching the show myself hoping I would get to see Discord again and began to fall in love with the show. As time went on my two favorite characters became Fluttershy and Discord, which makes any time the two of them are on screen together some of my favorite moments.

All I can say is that despite their flaws, many of which could've been fixed if Hasbro had allowed them to be even just fifteen minutes longer, I enjoyed the first two Equestria Girls movies so I'm looking forward to Friendship Games.
