Michelangelo for me. He’s the most fun, and his bandana is orange; my favorite color.

Jaws 2 (1978) A really solid sequel to a great original film. The fact that they cared enough to get John Williams to reprise his score with lots of great new material says they cared about making a better than average sequel, and that’s what they got. I’d pay to see this one just for the score, but everything about it is strong and entertaining. 8/10 Cable Guy (1996) *Spoilers ahead* Really funny and insane; Jim Carrey at his unraveled best. The man has no shame, and that translates into some great comedy, well-directed by Ben Stiller. Matthew Broderick plays a good straight man and Owen Wilson has a great scene playing a totally phony jerk who ends up the butt of some bathroom humor. This movie plays best for those who remember the many classic TV shows it references, but it’s still funny regardless. I know the ‘message’ of the movie is that too much TV rots the brain, but in the end, when all the TVs go out and one would-be viewer is shown reaching for a book instead, as though the cure for this TV malady has been rediscovered, it fails to realize that books are no less mind-rot than TV. Both deliver stories made to transport viewers from their day-to-day lives and only differ in the format they use to do so. Only bad media rots the brain, and what’s good or bad is really up to the viewer to decide. 7.5/10 Draft Day (2014) An engaging movie about, you guessed it, Draft Day for the NFL. I didn't expect much when I started watching it but it kept me interested all the way through. Not bad and actually somewhat exciting. 7/10 -

I already posted in this thread about my closest brush with the great beyond. The only other one that came close was when I passed out in my parents’ kitchen from what was later ‘guessed’ to be bronchial pneumonia. My dad tried to slap my face to wake me up but I didn’t feel it. And all I saw in my unconsciousness was the silhouetted figures of two of my most beloved people (residents of a far greater world) coming toward me. The images may have been the leftovers of a dream I was having before I got out of bed a short time earlier because I don’t think I was dead; just deeply out-cold.

I spent three years learning Japanese then dropped it after my trip to Japan had to be cancelled. I was at a low/intermediate level with a decent basic vocabulary and foundation in Kanji. Most of it is gone now from lack of practice and continued learning, but I’m trying to get back into it again. I hate having to re-learn everything I already learned before I can add anything new, but it’s unavoidable. At least this time I know what learning sources work best and which ones I can avoid. The worst part is that I can no longer afford to go to Japan, so I don’t have that motivation anymore, and motivation is the most necessary element to learning a new and difficult language. We’ll see how it goes.

Travelling; anything that gets me out of the apartment and changes my routine in stimulating new ways. Art; creating my own or enjoying the work of others. Art elevates life and gives me peace. Watching a movie with my family; nothing better than being transported away with a good story shared with loved ones. Exercise; it’s fun to work up a good sweat and feel all tired and peaceful afterward, knowing I’ve done myself some good and felt good doing it. Toy shopping; I like toys, I admit it. I enjoy meandering through collectibles shops and finding cool and interesting little doo-dads for sale. Stargazing; nothing more peaceful than losing one's self in the infinite. Trying anything new; food dishes, unusual destinations, fresh experiences and adventures of all kinds. New and wonderful worlds abound everywhere; finding them and sometimes pressing the boundaries (within civil and moral bounds) can be a special treat.

Sure I have one. One of these days the kid I borrowed it from is gonna want it back.

I don’t like eating ice cubes; they’re too crunchy and hard to enjoy. Not to mention they have no flavor. I like shaved ice though; nummy and full of chemical additives.

What did you do with your day?
Dreambiscuit replied to Mare in the Moon's topic in General Discussion
I continued with the week-long process of helping my mom clean out and rearrange her storage unit. We do this once a year so I always think it’ll be quick and easy, but as usual I was wrong. But I intend to get back to painting tomorrow (hopefully) and more of a normal routine. -
sports Did you play any sports as a kid?
Dreambiscuit replied to Snoopy Fan's topic in General Discussion
Nope. I was, and still am, terrible at sports of all kinds. I guess I can swim, but that’s about it, and I’ve never done it in competition or any ‘official’ capacity; just for fun. -

Alice in Wonderland (1951). Not my favorite Disney animated film by a long shot, but I really enjoyed it this time, flaws and all. Nice animation and all-around fun. 7/10 Oblivion (2013). I always loved this movie because I have a thing for dystopian stories, and this one scores on all counts. It has originality and plenty of fun surprises. It did have a fairly pivotal and unnecessary plot discrepancy that could have been alleviated by a simple alternate take, but was overlooked. That didn’t help, considering the finale was based on it. But for all its other positives, I give this one an 8.5/10 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) Great movie from Disney’s golden age of live action. A strong cast makes this retelling of the story entertaining and captures a lot of that Disney magic, from the days when Disney actually had real magic. 8.5/10 Princess and the Frog (2009) This movie is a perfect example of why Disney should keep making 2D animated features. They art of animation here is so rich and full of character it really is a waste of a great art form to simply dismiss it for CG. There’s room for more than one art medium in this world and Disney should know that better than anyone. But alas, they’re dummies. 7/10 -
Favorite Movie from the Year you were born
Dreambiscuit replied to Snoopy Fan's topic in Media Discussion
This is such an easy one. Beauty and the Beast (1991) one of my all-time favorites. -
Today's happy moment: I was helping my mom clean out her storage unit and we stumbled across some very old baby clothes from when my sibs and I were just wee ones. They brought back good old memories and I loved the styles from back in the day. There was even some older stuff, like a dress that used to belong to my grandma, that my mom trimmed way down and altered for me when I was little. It was all very nostalgic and happy.

Some people have more than one middle name. I'm not saying that applies to me...not sayin' it doesn't either.

food What was the last food you ate?
Dreambiscuit replied to Member Berry's topic in General Discussion
I had a croissant sandwich with egg, bacon and cheese. It was profoundly satisfactory. -
I remember Blockbuster and Hollywood, as far as chain businesses go, and lots of smaller, independent ones. I like the more obscure ones because they specialized in unusual and rare titles, but I don’t remember what they were called anymore. It’s been a long time. West Coast and Suncoast were great mostly because they had tons of movie collectibles and toys as well as movies.

I don't know if my favored aesthetic applies to fashion in any way. My clothing style tends toward being retro '80s style with a sprinkling of late '70s. In other words, I like shoulder pads, puffed sleeves, dresses with the hem below the knee, and boots. All in bright colors. An aesthetic that I love is retro-futurism. It’s the kind of futuristic style that people used to dream about back in the ‘60s, when there was still an optimistic hope for things to come. Here are some examples: And here, as it applies to fashion: I also like Arte Deco design because it’s timeless, stylish, civilized and artistic. I’m not sure if that fits the guidelines according to the OP, but there it is, just in case.

As it turned out, there were only three episodes! I don’t know if there’s going to be more, and I assume there will be, but I don’t know when. You’ve really got me interested in what happens, although it sounds like I can expect some troubling times ahead if it continues.

Favorite Disney Television Animation Shows
Dreambiscuit replied to Snoopy Fan's topic in Media Discussion
Well, let’s say it’s technically Disney. Meaning that Disney has their logo waaaaaaay down at the bottom of the credits and likely only contributes as far as injecting their politics into it, but very little else. -
Dan Da Dan (2025) This is the most insane, eccentric anime series I’ve ever seen. It’s funny, witty, sarcastic and weird. I just don’t know how to classify it cuz it can’t be classified. I’m just glad it’s got another season coming in July! Blue Box (2025) Just started this one, about a guy and a girl, both into sports. Simple enough, and then comes the layers of romantic craziness. So far, so good, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes (2025) I took a peek at this and it grabbed my attention. Now I might just have to watch the whole series. It looks pretty good, with some obvious inspiration from Kick-Ass, which is a good thing. Can’t wait to see where it goes.

Heroes: Condorman, Superman, Mr. Incredible. Hit Girl. Villains: Syndrome, Two-Face. Terra (hero or villain is blurry).
