NOPE. I DIDN'T ACCIDENTLY POST. NOPE.
Ok, based on this* map of Middle Earth and Google Maps, we can roughly place Minas Tirith at Florence in Northern Italy. Now, I put this here because Tolkien described the Shire as "the North-West of the Old World, East of the sea.", which would describe England#. Now, if we can plot England and the Shire at roughly the same location, then 600 miles south would be Florence, and the city of Pelagir is at about the same place as the ancient city of Troy(*). Now, where is Mordor? With these coordinates, Mordor would be roughly placed within the countries of Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Northern Serbia, Hungary, and Eastern Austria with Mount Doom being the small mountain range (dunno what it's called :S) within Slovakia [see Map Below]
So, now I just need to by a plane ticket (because only Jesus can walk on water) and head on over to Munich or something and I can complete my trials.
Now, if only I can convince my parents to let go over there....

# Old World = Europe. North-West of the Old World = seperate from the rest of Europe. East of the sea = not Greenland or other lands. All Combined = England.

(*) This is directly taken from a letter by Tolkien himself. When compared, the maps don't make any sense with these stats, but I'll consider it canon if he says it is.
