  1. I can't complain about this episode. I just can't. It's sad to say that the Generosity song from last week could only remain my favorite song of the season for a single week, but this new one easily beats it out. And the humor; holy crap the humor was just spot on throughout the entire thing! (I loved the eagle gag, and cat made out of dust.) Not to mention, I enjoyed the morals and the way that they built up to them. Overall, I'd say that this was yet another excellent addition to season 4!
  2. Oh, I saw this on Cracked.com the other day! I'd highly recommend reading that article as well because it's hilarious. It's linked in the above article, but I'll link it here too to make it easier for you all. Note: due to the nature of Cracked, it may contain adult or offensive language. I don't quite remember how bad this specific one is though. See the above Cracked article; it's pretty much all there.
  3. Ah, yes, it might be useful to note that we always get two rooms. I probably should have mentioned that above. I absolutely agree with all of your points; saving that money is not worth being miserably cramped in your hotel room for two days. Not to mention, you get more room keys that way which is always a good thing. If you really don't want to split up the group, you can always ask the hotel staff if they have any adjoining rooms (again, that's what my friends and I do every year).
  4. And no one else cares that Octavia has not been seen since the middle of season 2... While I like Derpy and all, didn't we already go through this in season 3? The whole, "Derpy is gone!" fiasco, only to be proven wrong in both the season finale and EqG? Honestly, there's no need to fret. She's still on the train; that's all of the proof that I need to know that the staff hasn't dropped her.
  5. Well, any of the 500 errors have to do with server problems, so my guess that this is a remnant of the recent database crash. Have you (or Inazuma for that matter) tried emailing tech@mlpforums.com? They might be able to help.
  6. 1. I've always gone with friends. 2. The cost of the hotel (and parking at the hotel) has been split between us all (generally 8-10 people), and it still ends up costing more than the ticket to go to the con. 3. As for sleeping arrangements, any couples typically got first dibs on beds, and then others had a shot at it. Everyone else would make themselves a comfortable spot on the floor. It's very important to set rules for everyone who stays to follow. For example: everyone cleans their own mess, don't deadlock the doors under any circumstances, if a person has not paid for the room, they cannot stay in the room (in other words, don't bring random people in), etc. 4. Getting badges varies greatly between cons. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's a nightmare; it all depends on how well the con staff can handle it. Last year at CTCon, I waited for about 45 minutes in line for the people who pre-registered (which isn't actually that bad). I've also heard horror stories of some con in Massachusetts (it may have been Anime Boston, but I always hear it as its infamous nickname: Line-Con '08) where people had to wait for hours. Essentially, just be prepared to wait, and be pleasantly surprised if you don't.
  7. It is actually! They even kept the same actors, with the exception of Drew Carrey being replaced by some other person (I think it's some woman?). I've got no idea when it came back or why/how, but it did. I don't even know what channel it's on anymore, I sort of just stumbled upon it one night about a month or two ago, and haven't heard anything about it since.
  8. I see you around quite a lot, so I imagine that you're pretty well known. 9/10
  9. I preferred Drew Carrey as the host, but that may just be my nostalgia kicking in. I've also only seen one episode of the newer ones, so that probably factors in too.
  10. I guess you could say that that's true in a sense. You see, I was actually never taught much about the different harmonic scales. My teachers and professors made sure that we knew that they existed, but never explained their significance. How I was taught was that the seventh scale degree (also called the leading tone) in a major scale has a very strong tendency to move to the tonic. (As an example, try playing/singing only the first seven notes of a scale. It's fairly difficult to not try to mentally finish it.) However, if you change the interval between the leading tone and the tonic (as you would in a natural minor scale), then you lose this tendency to some degree, which also heavily affects how your authentic cadences (V-I progressions) work, most of their power comes from the leading tone (which happens to be the major third interval above the root of a V) moving to the tonic. In order to recapture this power, the leading tone is almost always raised in minor (with some exceptions, but those exceptions are somewhat rare, such as the III chord). Why exactly did they need to recapture this? Because apparently historical composers were compelled to be needlessly complicated I think that it's so that they could create something that was vastly different from the major scale, but had enough similarities that the audience would still enjoy it. That's just my guess though. So yeah, that's sort of an answer, at least as far as I understand it. I don't think that I explained it very well... I hope that it helps you though.
  11. He seems like an interesting and amusing guy, but I honestly don't know that much about him other than that he's the "Oh my!" guy, and I believe that he was on Star Trek. He did some sort of presentation at my university last year, though I wasn't able to go. I'm not even entirely sure what it was about, I just know that he was here.
  12. Alright, don't worry, modulations to the relative minor aren't terribly difficult since the key signatures are the same. The most important part is performing a cadence in the new key, which is typically a V (five) chord followed by a i (one) chord, or a V-i progression. (Since this is a minor pitch class, the i is lower-case to indicate that it is a minor chord. If it were major, it would be notated as I. V is left upper-case because that chord ends up being major, even in a minor pitch class, but I'm getting way off topic here.) In your case, you're looking for an A major chord (the chord based off of the fifth scale degree of D minor) followed by a D minor chord. You can start by moving away from the note F, with an emphasis on D. When you really want the listener to know that you've changed keys, you do the V-i progression and that should solidify it. Just be careful, in the V chord, you have to remember to raise the 7th scale degree a half step (in this case, a C# instead of a C natural). Otherwise it ends up being modal instead of minor. Let me know if you want me to explain anything further. I may have gotten a bit too technical... Hope that this helps! EDIT: PS - I'm slightly over halfway through analyzing Blitz. Expect a response on it before the week's end.
  13. Behold! Now that I have Pinkie and Lyra, my Funko vinyl collection is complete! (excluding the sparkle variants and mini figures and green-tie Doctor, but I'm not that insane) Also, I got my hands on the Comic Con DJ Pon-3 for an excellent price in an Ebay auction. I'm really starting to run out of room on that shelf... If they release another pair, they may have to invade other parts of my room.
  14. So... I'm back here at school. It was good to be home for so long, though I'm also oddly excited to be back here.

I'm more comfortable at school than I am at home.

  15. Okay, I thought that 'Suited For Success' was an excellent episode, and it remained my favorite Rarity episode until about ten minutes ago. This one though... I found it to be all-around fantastic! The song is definitely my favorite of the season so far, I found the characters to be spot on, and most importantly the message was actually quite deep and I thought that it was handled very well. I'd actually consider saying that this episode is tied with the premiere as my favorite of the season. All in all, I found it to be a great addition to the season. No complaints here.
  16. Most things seem to have been said already, but I have a couple more tips. DO NOT try to pay for the hotel room yourself. Find someone (or several someones) to share the room with, because those rooms can be ridiculously expensive. For reference, my friends and I go to ConnectiCon every year. There's usually 8-10 of us, so we get two hotel rooms. For staying two nights, we each have to put in about $100 for two small two-bedroom rooms that don't have refrigerators. My second tip is to have a plan. The dealer's room is great, but you can spend money on the internet. If you want to spend money to go somewhere just so you can spend money in a crowded environment then you can definitely do that at a con, but the real draw of the con are the panels and other events. See if you can access a schedule early, and figure out what you want to go to and when. You don't want to miss obscure, but awesome events just because you didn't know that they existed. That all being said, if you do decide to go, I hope that you have a blast!
  17. I was just about to say this. In fact, it seems that there isn't really a whole lot other than visiting the forums that I do online... I had plenty to do though, since I'm starting an internship tomorrow I had/have a bunch of stuff to read as training.
  18. Ah, I see, that makes sense. Sorry, I admit that I didn't bother to read through the rest of the topic, so if it had been said here before, I never saw it...
  19. So I just finished the episode (took me long enough...), and I thought that it was pretty good. I really wish that I had gotten the chance to see the livestream so that the whole Flutterbat thing wasn't spoiled, but oh well. Anyways, I liked the message, and I liked how the episode involved the entire Mane Six. However, I have some issues. First of all, the continuity regarding The Stare bothers me. In 'The Staremaster,' Fluttershy clearly states that she can't actually control The Stare; it just happens on its own. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore... I know that the same sort of thing happened in 'Keep Calm and Flutter On,' though I saw that as more of an empty threat rather than actually using it. Now it's undeniable; she does have complete control over The Stare despite what she originally said. Also, isn't their original solution a little bit overly cruel? It basically boils down to, "Let's brainwash them into thinking that they don't need to eat and watch as they all starve to death." It's not how the plan is presented in the episode (for obvious reasons) but it doesn't take much forethought to see that that's what will result. I'm really just nitpicking though, and I did think that this was a fun episode. My only concern is the things that they've left hanging from this and previous episodes (the locked box, the potentially evil entity that resides in the castle ruins, and Fluttershy still being a vampire) and how/whether they plan on resolving them.
  20. Just a quick question: if we want a response from the staff, can we request to have a PM response instead of an email? I know that there are a number of people (myself included) who are hesitant to give out our email addresses. I realize that they won't be displayed publicly, but I can't help but still feel a bit hesitant.
  21. Hi there! I just wanted to thank you for adding me as a friend. It's always nice to get that rare notification.

  22. Conflict? No. Harm? Kind of yes. Going through the thread, you can notice people getting progressively more negative and disappointed, followed by periods of inactivity, and the cycle repeats. Fair point, but that's addressing the ratio within the fanbase in general. The ratio within this thread, however, is ridiculously imbalanced, leaning towards heterosexual males. I can't give an exact number, but I can make an estimate of well over 50%, and is likely closer to 70-90%. Again, fair point, and I certainly don't think that it's the OP's fault, but it's sort of like blaming a child for being disappointed because they got nothing at Christmas. That's an extreme example, but I think that it get's across the point. True, very true. I don't really have anything to say against this.
  23. I would argue that that is not the reasoning behind this (and I personally think that it's a little harsh to assume that this is the case). The point isn't that he doesn't like the thread, it's that he sees that the thread is constantly disappointing people who seem to have high hopes for it and doesn't want that to happen anymore. (Note that I'm speaking specifically about the Finding a Special Somepony thread, I have no problem with the other one.) You say that it isn't actively hurting people, but, despite its good intentions, in some cases it is. And yes, it has helped some people; that's a fact that I won't deny. I also won't deny that gambling hasn't helped some people, but the rest are likely to be left disappointed and penniless. I'm honestly not sure where I stand on whether or not the thread should be locked, but I feel like this is a point that should be considered.
  24. @@~SadisticFluttershy~,@@tsvkino, You're not alone! Mine's been doing that too. I can almost predict when it's going to happen by now... Though my game has been experiencing extreme and permanent lag since before this update, so I wasn't surprised. Unrelated, does anyone know if the Canterlot Decoration Shop is permanently available, or only around during this update? Because I have the gems to get it, but I've been saving up for Soarin for well over a month now. If it's only available temporarily, I might pick it up, but otherwise I'll leave it alone.
  25. Exactly. Even at 21, I personally find romantic relationships to be distracting (or at least that's how I imagine them being, I've never been in one), and I just want to get through school at the moment. There's no need to rush into it. If the opportunity arises, take it, but otherwise, just do what feels right. Oh, and an update I suppose... Forum crush: none? I think? I don't talk to people here often, so there's never been a chance to develop any feelings. Pony crush: if I had to choose, Octavia. IRL crush: eh, basically the same. I don't talk to many people... There's this friend, maybe, but I don't really know, it's sort of really confusing. Then I suppose there was this girl that I'm unlikely to ever see again that worked as an intern with me over the summer. I feel awful about it though, I can't even remember her name anymore... EDIT: I remember the girl from the internship's name! It sort of came to me in a dream last night, which I swear is not nearly as creepy as it sounds.
