Words Of Inspiration From Your Parents

Sugar & Sins

In those times when your feeling down or scared, what have your parents said to you that's given you the inspiration or the drive to do something you wouldn't normally do without them to support you?

I am terrified of heights, always have been, one time when we were on a family holiday, my dad wanted to go on a roller coaster but he didn't want to go on alone, he asked me and I said no way, It was really high and I probably would have cried. Then he do what he usually does and get all philosophical on me and he said "Feel the fear and do it anyway." I didn't fully understand but for some reason it struck me and I got on the coaster.

I don't understand it to this day but I always remember it when I'm scared and I feel fine again.

"You may feel like you don't want to do it right now, but why don't you just try it, for a few weeks maybe, then make your decision?"

My mom told me this right at the beginning of the school swim season last year. I had to get up at 5:30 every morning to make it to the pool by 6:15, and I was getting really tired and annoyed. I didn't see how it would be worth it.

However, taking my mom's advice, I kept doing it for a few weeks, and a few weeks turned into months. I got used to it, and I enjoyed being a part of a team. I'm thankful to my mom for giving me the drive to continue swimming. :D

'' Money don't grow on trees '', '' Treat your parents with respect '', '' Life is unfair, you can't always get what you want '',  really bad ones but I can't think others, because to be honest there's not many, but I think on some areas my parents are more inspiring because of their hardwork and persistence.

"Get off your ass and do something with yourself" - My mother

My mam just basically said, "Try your best. I'm perfectly happy if your best isn't great, at least you tried."

My parents aren't the most inspirational people.

Yeah my mum says the top one to me all the time.

And i must say, "mam" must mean you're from the good ol' british isles, am I right?  B)

"Sometimes failures are just blessings in disguise" -- my mom.

This phrase got me through some tough times when I was young, and my mom always ended up being right too. I'm the kind of person who always thought my life was falling apart if I failed at something. Now I see that failure is just the universe giving my life an alternate route -- and that route usually leads to something great.

Eeyup. "Be more sociable" and "You shouldn't waste your life on the internet" are also common ones.  >_>

And yep! England to be specific.  :yay:

When I was 15 or 16, I was being pressured to go down a certain path when it came to developing job skills.  I was pretty good at it, but wasn't sure it was for me.  My dad put it into perspective quite perfectly by saying "It's not their life; it's yours.  Star in it."

Words of wisdom from my father: "You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose."

After severely regretting my decision of university program which I greatly disliked and will most likely land me a job that will make me hate myself for the rest of my life and talking about what I actually wanted to do, my mom responded with "Eww, that's a dirty job, besides you never know where life will take you". Granted, that was the opposite of inspiring and reminded me of why I never talk to my parents, but that one part: "you never know where life will take you" gave me a faint glimmer of hope.
