Since Opeth is done with extreme metal, I'll have to get my progressive death metal fix from Swallow The Sun. The album only came out two months ago, and It's absolutely amazing. Musically, it is incredibly atmospheric and diverse, the production is crystal clear, and it's quite impressive instrumentally as well. Mikko Kotamäki's vocals are mu favorite part of the album, as they are absolutely amazing-alternating between an incredible death growl, black metal shrieks, and barotone clean vocals throughout the album. The band is essentially a Finnish version of Opeth. This may read like a fanboy review, but this is the first STS album I've owned, and it is, in my opinion, a masterpiece.

Another Dark Tranquility fan?! YES!!!! Damage Done is an amazing album.

Unfortunately, I've only been a fan for a bit and I own nothing of their albums. I only heard of them through Brutal Legend.

 

I do however absolutely love their music and have heard quite a few of their songs so that doesn't make me any less of a fan.

I recommend starting with Damage Done, or Fiction.
