gaming Am I the only one who DOESN'T like it when videogames are challenging?

Literally everybody seems to love the "thrill of the challenge" whenever they're playing a game so to speak. But not me. I hate hard games. In my opinion when a game is hard it just feels like work...I like to relax when I play games. I can't have fun if a game is frustrating. And to me that's all a hard or "challenging" game is. It's just frustrating not fun. Because I can't win...Lots of people say they don't like "piss easy" but I'll take piss easy over shit hard any day...

Everybody else seems to love those games that are hard and unforgiving like Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Fire Emblem, Ninja Gaiden, Dark Souls and godforbid the old NES and Genesis games...

As for me I like games that are straightforward and easy like Pokemon, Kingdom Hearts, Spiderman Friend or Foe, Fire Emblem Awakening or Lego Star Wars etc.

Maybe the reason why I don't like hard games is just because I'm terrible at videogames but still...

I need my video games to be challenging for them to be fun. Not on the level of Ecco or Touhou, per say, but just hard enough so that I don't feel like the game is just walking me through it. If there's no real danger in losing the game, what's the point in playing it?

I play games such as

VVVVVV

Super Hexagon

The Impossible Game

I find it really satisfying when I complete a level (or the whole game as this applies to all three of them). That's why I play challenging games - for the mental reward afterwards.

I play loads of Rocket League and GRID 2 on PC if you want to join me at some time. Account is linked in the pic above.

If you want to play Halo: Reach, Forza 6 or GTAV  with me on Xbox One, hit me up with a friend request at 'Yeloooh'

Sometimes I am in the mood for something easy, sometimes something a bit harder but most of the time they kind of clash a bit. The bottom line is most of the time I like a challenge but one that I can do. Most of the example you mentioned are ones that do fit that category for me of course one major exception is Donkey Kong Country Returns. A great game but way too hard and for the wrong reasons being that motion controls really really don't work for that kind of game at least not that kind of game that is that ridiculously hard. You are not able to respond nearly as quickly with the motion controls they way they are set up as you would if you were using traditional controls which really makes the game not worth it to me. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze fixes this quite well though but is still quite the unforgiving game, it is hard but unlike Returns is for the right reasons.

*sigh* I knew I was gonna get comments like this...

I probably just don't like hard games because I'm so bad at games and because I'm lazy. I die ALOT when I play games. And I also get gameovers alot when I play games.

I wouldnt call dark souls unforgiving. Id say it doesnt hold your hand and is a learn by death experiance but it is a challagne. I like them because of the warm tingle you get when you finnally beat them. Except for ninja gaiden which is hard for thebsakebof being hard.

Anger can lead to good times, in my opinion.

I do like a challenge at some points (Super Meat Boy; N+; Super Hexagon), but sometimes I like a straightforward kind of game that isn't very challenging (Assassin's Creed 2 [World's best fighting!]; Earthbound).

Rarity is the best thing in my life.

Where would I be without her? Nowhere I'd like to be, that's for sure.

I hate when hackers hack into games it makes it no fun

I'm the only one of my friends who thinks this, and probably one of 10 people in the world who feels like this, but I find it to be fun when people hack games. Whereas most people find it unfair, I find it to be a challenge I haven't faced yet. As long as the odds of me winning aren't impossible, i'm perfectly okay with people breaking the rules.

You're a gamer who's into the easy stuff? I recommend Kirby.
I like difficult games because I get a sense of accomplishment from beating them. Mega Man, for instance, is difficult, but it's not impossible, and you have E-Tanks to help you if you're in a pinch.

Sadly in many games people make it to wear losing is an impossibility for them. Dark souls 2 for pc at first if you could get a cheater near a ledge there was hope, but eventually they learned and sense then the community has all but abandoned the pvp in the game. Most i know just play offline now.

U fukken wot m8.

If those are hard for you, I dont think there's much hope for you at all.

And yet, Pokemon isnt in that list somehow when I've had some shit happen in those games much worse than other you claimed as hard.

Why not try something such as Kirby games or some Yoshi games? Those are generally not as bad as others in terms of difficulty. I mean, due to the norm of games, they will increase as the game advances, but still generally lower.

I really like games that challenge me. It gives you a sense of accomplishment when you finally beat a level you fought with for a long time.

That being said though, I have no issues playing easier games either. They're fun too, something like Kirby's Epic Yarn or Lego Star Wars is great to just pick up and enjoy immediately. It really depends on my mood, sometimes I want touhou and sometimes I want Mario.

Then don't play world ten on The Legendary Starfy this is a warning if you hate hard games. However I like games about in the middle however if I'm trying for 2 hours to beat a challange that's not exactly the kind of game I like Pokemon is best.

I love em both really. Sometimes I just wanna relax & explore a richly detailed world, while other times I want to be challenged. For me, it's all fun. :)

BWHAHAHAHA

That is the funniest thing I have heard all day. You want a hard game, play Ecco the Dolphin (I still can't get past the goddamn city of forever) , Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Battletoads, Demon's Souls, etc.

Also, some Pokémon games are quite hard. You'll know what I mean if you've played Red/Blue Rescue Team, or Explorers of Sky / Darkness / Time. Darkrai, Dusknoir, The Guild and Primal Dialga were as difficult as hell. And for that matter, if you'd played Platinum / Diamond / Pearl, MOTHER BUCKIN' CYNTHIA. IT TOOK ME AGES TO DEFEAT HER AND HER GOD-FREAKIN-DAMNED GARCHOMP / MILOTIC.

Also, in the end, Rare Candies actually make your Pokémon weaker, not stronger. Sell 'em.

edit in 2015: now that i have actually played fire emblem rekka no ken I retract my statement about fire emblem not being hard.

I like hard games, so long as they aren't too punishing.

For example, Super Meat Boy is hard as all get out, but you basically restart immediately upon death, so I think it's fun.

I Wanna Be The Guy, on the other hand, punishes you for things that really weren't even your fault by knocking you halfway across the damn game, so I don't think it's fun.

Really, it all depends on the design, in my opinion.

Which Ecco did you play?

Dreamcast one is most difficult, IMO

The only games I can't stand- games that consistently reward you even when you do the wrong things(ala most direct movie to game video games), and games that consistently punish you even when you do the right things (ala Ecco and Cat Mario).

@,

Ecco 1. That game was my childhood. I cheated my way to Welcome to the Machine, took me a year but I got to the final boss.

I am still mentally scarred.

See, I don't particularly like challenging games. That's why I play games like Garry's Mod and such (although, I am a sucker for a good story, so if a game has enough of one, I will get past the challenge to progress)

Personally I like both. There are games I play for the challenge and ones I play to just experience something and relax. For instance, I play most games on "hard" mode (if the hard mode is balanced, mind you) because the feeling of surmounting a challenge thanks only to your own skill level is quite the rush. I started the new Wolfenstein on "UBER" difficulty and sure I've died, but it's also been a freaking blast. I'm also a huge fan of the Dark Souls games, as they also give you that feeling of really accomplishing something through skill and determination. I realize not everyone is necessarily looking for that in a video game, and that's fine, but personally I hate games that are all about action but essentially hold your hand throughout the whole thing; if I wanted that, I'd just watch an action movie or something.

In addition to that though, I also love games where challenge isn't the focus. Games like Journey or The Stanley Parable where "challenge" wouldn't really make much sense, where the creator is trying to relay an idea or concept that transcends "you're trying to beat this video game in an efficient manner". Some of my favorite memories in gaming come from those types of games. That being said, if a game isn't doing something like that and is still dirt-easy, it just seems like a waste to me. There are very few times I play games just to relax, it's more of my main hobby ^_^

A few games I love, despite being difficult, are Mega Man 2, the origninal Pokemon Red and Blue versions, sometimes Skyrim, and Rayman Origins.

Then there are games that are TOO difficult. So difficult, that they aren't any fun like Silver Surfer, Double Dragon 3, and possibly the worst video game ever made, ACTION 52!!!

I only hate hard games if they are TOO hard.
