  1. 1. Should these places have a character limit where your posts do count?

As you know, there are some places within MLPForums where your post count doesn't increase, like The Cloudsdale Colosseum and roughly half of the Roleplay World.

My idea is that, after a certain amount of characters, your post does count in those places.

I don't know how many characters it should take, so I'll let the people decide that. Tell me what you think and I'll create a poll for it.

If I am not being clear enough for you, please let me know what you want to know, as I never think of everything at the same time, and I will add it to this topic.

Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day!

P.S. I stink at titles. Please give me a better title to give this thang.

Edit: It occurs to me that doing this to the Cloudsdale Colosseum would be a huge disaster. So how about we do this thang to only the roughly half of the Roleplay World?

The Active Posts count exists for a reason. There're multiple sections of discussion through this forums(Show Discussion,Sugarcube Corner...),but Cloudsdale Colliseum can't be considered as a place for a consistent discussion of any mean.

Cloudsdale Colliseum is a place where, basically, spammy stuff happens, like the Forum Games, the Ask a Pony threads, and the Forum Lounge.
The threads that exist there are principally targetted towards spammy behavior,so it wouldn't make sense to add that function.

The Roleplay OOC thrrads are just discussions Out Of Character from their respective RPs,made to not create a flood of spam on the RPs.

I'm not an Admin,so I can't know if an option like that exists, but I don't think that a function like the one that you're describing exists for IPB,and if even it existed, the Tech Admins(Feld0 and Lavo) wouldn't have time for that, when they barely have time for the more important projects.

In Sum,the answer would be no,but i'm just a single person,and I don't know the other's thoughts.

I don't really mind either way, but I do want to address that people do try to make posts through the character limit by adding spam or random filler. And while some people indeed don't have much to say, others use this to bypass the character limit for different intentions.

Thing is, character count isn't everything. Sections where post count doesn't increase tend to be for less thought-out posts, and more silly, nonsensical posts can be posted there. You can post a thousand characters and not contribute a thing to the conversation, so that's not really a great way to measure a post.

Assuming that can be done it dosen't seem necessary, I can see your point about Roleplay World but Cloudsdale Colloseum is for things that are a tad spammier than are typically allowed in other parts of the site and having posts count there even if the characters reach a certain minimum might just encourage people to spam excessively which really isn't going to help anyone.

No. Cloudsdale Colosseum has spammy posts, and you can make 1000 posts and not contribute anything. No, I don't support this.

Have the courage to think and act on your own. And have the courage to disobey.

The reason the lack of post count was originally implemented for the Roleplay World OOC Sections is as Lightwing said; to prevent spammy, off topic posts from proliferating in the OOC threads.

While there are sound arguments for reversing this, with the new Pony Roleplay site on the horizon there's little point in changing things at this stage. With the launch of PRP, we will be reassessing whether this rule is necessary. The OOC threads are an integral part of our roleplay environment, after all; but it will take a commitment from every user to keep the OOC threads on topic if this is to be considered.

Indeed they do! If you see any post like this, I encourage you to bring it to the attention of the moderators by reporting it. It takes a village to look after a site the size of this one. The mods and staff can't possibly see everything which goes on, so we rely on you guys to point us at problems. (Whereupon we tear them down like the loyal attack dogs we are.)

Mmhmm, and then someone spams a letter tons of times to get free post counts like this:

rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooobbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbooooooooooooooooottttttttttttttt

It would just be a free post count way, and, it just woudn't make sense.  Becides, would you really want people spamming those threads?  Just to get a higher rank?  I wouldn't.  That wouldn't be nice, now would it?  So I disagree with this idea.

(plus I don't think it is possible...)
