Why do some bronies do this?

Because why not?

this actually feels offensive to me for some reason, but this is just my opinion

When you say "this" I don't know if you are referring to them acting like they have actual relationships with the characters, or if they are simply putting ponies in IRL pictures. I don't see anything wrong with putting ponies in pictures, as long as you acknowledge it's not real. There has to be some sense of humor behind it. Like, I don't really see anything wrong with the Discord photo, it just looks like it was meant to be funny.

But yea, the people photoshopping the characters and hugging/kissing them. That's odd. To me, at least, but I won't judge.

I have done it.  For me, the ultimate fantasy is being able to interact with my favorite fictional character in real life.  Since I can't make that fantasy come true at the present time, making a picture like that is about the only thing I can do.  I do it because I like it, and it makes me smile.

Perhaps the people who are doing this are just being funny or playful. Some might just be lonely  :(

But I think many of them are doing this for fun

For laughs, I'd say. I mean, some are just "Hey look at this picture of me and *pony* in this hilarious situation xD". Hell, I once photoshopped Rainbow Dash in her "sitting down while wearing shades" pose in a picture where I was sitting with shades as well.

But when it comes to photoshopping ponies in real life to pretend they're really there for you, that's called escapism. They live in an imaginary world to escape their own, mostly because their lives is not exactly good. Now I know not what they've been through to do that, but that's most likely the reason. And I can tell you first hand that it never works.

So when people ask them stop is mostly not because they find it offensive and/or stupid, but for their own sake

Because eventually you'll have to go back to reality, and it might be too late.

OR it could have been some sort of harmless concious roleplay that's harming nothing but their reputation.

Hello everyone

I can't really say anything new, they could be lonely and/or want to attach themselves to something fictional, or they have some kind of attraction to a character. Others may just want to have fun and do something silly.

Some of the pics did involve having a prom date or showing something sexual, and I think that's a little weird, but to each their own. Some of the others I found to be pretty funny, creative, and harmless.

I would never do it, though.

  • 1 year later...

Some of them were funny in an intentional way.  Like Fluttershy in the car with the big black guys.

That black guy is the famous late rapper 2pac. Hours later after that photo was taken he was shot 6 times in a drive by shooting and DIED 6 days later in the hospital. Even as a long time brony who has always liked Fluttershy I'm really offended to see that. The fact that this guy is trying to make light out of something that should be untouched is absurd.

I could see maybe photo shopping a selfie with Rainbow Dash or something, but I mean.. it's probably not healthy to be doing things like that all the time.
That being said, as long as they're just doing it for fun and do not actually live in a fantasy world, I see no issue with it.
Yeah, it's strange but aren't we all?

I suppose sometimes it might be fun to photoshop cartoony things into real life photos... No problem with that. Although I've never really found the appeal in it.

Those pictures where they're supposed to be their girlfriends and/or they're in seductive poses? Disturbing and cringeworthy. Stop, just stop. Please.

I have a bigger problem with people photoshopping themselves to look better in their photos even worst if it's part of their profession (celebrities, models). I think it's called photoshop surgery or something.

Meh, to each their own.  I mean, I don't think we're really in the position to be making snap judgements about anyone.  I'd say as long as they're having fun and nobody is getting hurt then live and let live.  There's certainly no shortage of people who would cast snap judgements upon all of us without a second thought.  It's not my thing personally, but I bet some of these guys would actually be fun to hang out with if you could meet them and get to know them a little.

I don't have problem with ponies IRL images (Jonny Music of this forums make some of such images); I think of it like trying to imitate Roger Rabbit. However, I do begin to... question ones that indicate said person are actually in sexual relations with said ponies which I prefer not to see.

Strangely enough though, I have more interest looking at davca's works even though some of his works do have what would be considered inappropriate insertion of ponies into historical images (such as sad Rainbow Dash in image of Jews being rounded up by Nazis).

Looking at metalgriffen69's images, I'm not fond of them to say it one way. Something to note, I looked more into metalgriffen69 some time ago and found that one DA user claims that he supposedly committed suicide.

DA note about his alleged suicide: http://mcvay420.deviantart.com/journal/Rest-in-peace-Arnold-Metalgriffen69-329481787

I question its legitimacy especially due to original poster's reply to a certain user:

youre not answering my question

Everyone is tip toeing around the question. Yes, it is kind of sad that people do this, but for some of them, they don't have many friends. It perpetuates the stereotype that bronies are anti social and lonely, but I honestly don't care. If it makes them happy, I guess they can do what they want, but it be a better use of time to go out and actually make friends.
