Since the upload of the 'Mario is mental' theory, people have been hating on Mario and refusing to buy his games anymore, and the game theory fans go onto almost every Mario video and say "Mario is evil, Mario is a bad brother, Mario is an animal abuser", they are spreading the word, millions know about it now.

 

I enjoy matpat's content (Game theory), but it gets annoying when people quote his theories on video's relating to the game/character he based his theory around.

 

I like Mario, but when I say that I like Mario on a game theory video, people call me a murder supporter and I love animal abuse and all that BS.

 

I hope you can answer my question, do you think that game theory has killed the Mario franchise?

(this might be an obscure topic, but I really want to hear what you have to say).

Oh, Gametheory is awesome. I adore it.

And about mario, I still love the series. Sure, the main character may be insane  and his girlfriend may be as well, but the games are just as fun as they were before I knew this. It hasn't changed my opinion on the series much other than 'Oh, that's interesting' because as much evidence as there is, even after the fact, it's all just a theory (a gametheory!) and not official.

I am interested in other people's opinions on this though. Maybe you should link to the episode in the first post so that people can watch it.

Yep, Game theory killed the Mario franchise, it was good while it lasted though, sad really, I guess all good things have to come to an end eventually, the internet seems to kill everything I enjoy these days, Wii U is the last system that will have Mario games on it seems

I mean, the video was interesting and the evidence was well placed, but to go so far as to call the franchise DEAD because of a single Youtube video that not everybody has seen?

Wait, I thought "game theory" was about studying what behavior can be expected from people playing a game as a result of the particular rules set that they're having to work within and also as a result of what expectations they have for what actions the other players will take.

 

This just sounds like thinking too hard about stuff in video games.

If you watch further videos produced by Mat Pat, you'll see that he hasn't stopped playing the Mario games. He often accuses himself of over-thinking. As he says, it's just a theory.

Is there some solid evidence that's there's actually been a significant decrease in Mario game buying? ( like stocks or something decreasing) not to mention , while his channel is on the web so it's international , it's in English and not all Japanese gamers speaker English so....

 

I thought it was a interesting video, although the part two to the one about Rosaline (sp?) was more suprising.

I think the point of Game Theory, at least for some games, is to overthink the game so much to the point of hilarity. The Mario games are the perfect games to overthink, especially when these 'dots' are connect to even create these theories. They don't ruin the games for me, they make me laugh.

I honestly didn't know Game Theory has become such popular show on Youtube. I have been a fan of Matt since his theatre days (i watched him for his plays, because I was big into theatre at the time). Even with 2 million + subscribers, I didn't think many here would be a fan....I also don't believe he hurt the Mario Franchise in any way. He is just pointing out consistencies in the franchise the prove potential theories....People are just over-reacting.

He has come a long way with his videos. I wish they were longer and more in depth and detailed...maybe even list sources in the video description....but when it comes to the knowledge he presents, he does a very solid job with such a short time frame.

 

If the evidence wasn't there to begin with, the theory wouldn't exist....

I have agreed with all of mat pats theories and some blew my mind but as for that one I just pretend I didn't see that Mario was one of my idols as a child and there are a lot of flaws in that theory about him being insane like when Mario jumps on a enemy in the newer ones he starts laughing happily, well would you prefer him to say die every time he jumps on a goomba?

Honestly, it can be fun to overthink things as long as you don't take it to heart. Really, one of my favorite games to overthink on was Shadow of the Colossus. One of the things I loved about that game was the "Forbidden Land" itself, including geography, culture, and history. There isn't anything to point to that described anything conclusively, but again, it's fun.

 

So yeah, never let YouTube videos or comments suggest to you that a mjor trend is happening. YouTube is pretty much its own fun, but equally pitiful little world.
