movies/tv Do you think Frozen is overated?

I still haven't seen Frozen (but I want to) so I cant really say if the movie is overrated.

Let it Go, while it is actually a good song, is overrated. I hear it so much and everyone's always singing it, it's starting to rot my brain.

That's pretty much the definition of overrated.

Something that gets more love than other things that deserve it.

The definition of overrated is something given too much credit or hype than it deserves, which is not I what I think of Frozen.  Frozen is a damn good movie and I'm glad it is recognized for being so.

See my problem is that Disney has alot more to offer other than Frozen but now thats all they are focusing on. See eversince Muppets was bought by Disney they couldve added more Muppet stuff and the chance to meet the characters but SOMEHOW you can have Anna and Elsa (2013) before Muppets (2003) totally doesnt make sense to meh!

That's your opinion.

Some would beg to differ.

And that is why the terms overrated and underrated do not prove anything other than someone likes something more or less than others.

Eh I guess you're right.

No one can measure awesomeness, and arguing about it seems even more ridiculous.

Yes, I believe Frozen was overrated.

People just don't understand. Whenever I am told that it is the best animated movie EVER, those people don't know the competition nearly as well as I do. It couldn't possibly top Spirited Away, Who Framed Roger Rabbit or Toy Story.

Yes it is. People are praising the movie like it's Jesus Christ only because of a song and its "fantastic" story.

So no, no I don't think Frozen is overrated. If you think it is, I humbly ask you to watch it again and do what bronies do best. Kick the mainstream on it's ass, leave pre-conceived notions of twitter, youtube, etc. at the door, and just watch from your perspective alone.

I did exactly that. It's overrated beyond belief.

We'll have to agree to disagree, but I'm glad you reached that conclusion from your own observations rather than parroting legion.

No, it's genuinely that good. I'm not a huge fanboy of it by any stretch (I've only watched it once.) but it definitely is a great kids movie and deserves the hype it gets.

It managed to stay true to it's roots as a Disney Princess movie, while still managing to be it's own unique thing.

Plus it doesn't have a bunch of pop-culture references in it like a lot of kids movies, so it definitely has a timeless feel to it. You can watch it 500 years from now and still appreciate it without having the future version of Clifs Notes.

Plus the animation is beautiful and the songs are great.

Also it's not all that weird that Elsa has shown up in Once Upon a Time. The show has always had characters from Disney Movies in it, and stays closer to the Disney versions of the characters than it does to any traditional depictions of the characters. It even has included characters that ONLY appeared in Disney movies such as Mr. Smee. (I think that's his name. Captain Hook's sidekick guy.)

Back in my time, I thought the Lion King was overrated, especially Timon and Pumbaa, in fact they would have their own TV series,  I feel the same way about Frozen. Let it Go has been repeated and parodied to death, the only song I enjoyed was Frozen Heart, because it is the only Nordic themed song in the movie, and I love Scandinavian folk music, the rest of the songs I thought were generic Disney songs, and I forgot them quite rapidly, I have to admit I didn't like Olaf, and Princess Anna was boring to me, not as interesting as Merida or Rapunzel, if fact I found her as annoying as Olaf. However, I did enjoy this movie, and I will not take away whatever elements fans of the movie loved, it was a very good film, I loved the Nordic art style in Frozen, it had quite a distinct Norwegian look, and I have been to Norway, Queen Elsa was an amazing character, I wish she had more to do in this film, nevertheless, we should respect each other's opinions, whether it was overrated or under appreciated.

I have a life-sized Elsa cardboard stand-up staring at me in my room right now, so...yeeeah...I guess you're asking the wrong guy.  Lol.  But, no, yeah, I get where you're coming from, OP.  Most Disney movies are way overhyped, and Frozen in particular seems to be the most popular kids movie of all time.  So, yeah, it's probably a bit overrated.  I dislike hype in general.  Hype is annoying.  But that's kids movies for you.  They're always overhyped.  That's because they want to sell toys.  Ain't nobody gonna buy a Captain Phillips action figure.  But I really did love Frozen.  But, as always, I'd love to see a more serious version with little to no comic relief.  I.e. get rid of Olaf and most definitely get rid of that f*cking fixer upper song.  If you just cut fixer upper out of the movie, it makes more sense and instantly becomes much better.  It makes the movie 20%...okay, I won't finish that.  ;)

Oh, yeah, and I actually logged on to the forums to see if there was some good place in Everfree for me to share this picture I made.  This seems like as good a place as any.

Loved the movie, loved the soundtrack. Isn't my favourite. Was disappointed that it was something people were claiming to be based on The Snow Queen. Was the furthest thing from Hans C. Anderson's work.

Why do people fixate on the (non-explained) reason WHY Elsa has ice powers? Can't you just accept she does and go on from there? The emotions of the characters are the important part of the movie, not why is Magic A, Magic A in the first place. (Do I need a comma there? Not sure. Not important.) The movie was great, it didn't fall into typical clichés, it actively tried to subvert them.

I do think the movie was in part carried by the popularity of "Let It Go", but c'mon, that's a fucking awesome song. I literally tear up when I hear it.

I don't think so. Mind you, I only seen it once, but it does deserve all of this hype. This is a Disney movie that stands out from the rest, and for many good reasons why. The main characters are sisters instead of a young couple, these main characters are likeable, the animation and music is beautiful... I could go on and on that it is a good movie.

When things become overhyped, it'll no doubt form a hatedom, and throw assumptions like "Worst movie ever!" or "The fans ruined it for me." I personally think that these hatedoms should realise that the reason why stuff like Frozen is popular is because it's something that is of high quality and has something much different to offer. This also applies to many other high-quality works with big fandoms, like MLP:FiM.

This I can agree with. Frozen Heart is the only song that even remotely stood out to me musically. Probably because of the clear folk-influences.

I'm not really into today's pop, and that's why the rest of the songs (and TBH most of FiM's songs, too) don't really do anything for me themselves.

This movie is extremely overrated.

That doesn't mean I don't love it. ;)

Still, people are right, even Let it Go gets a bit annoying after the millionth time..

Frozen is a bit overrated in some cases, I still listen to the songs and do karaoke on my own time.

But I agree, some people need to let it go.

Eh. I loved the movie and I still do, although not as much as I did when I first saw it, though my love for Tangled did fade after awhile as well.

People gave and still give it way too much praise. It's good, don't get me wrong; but holy cow the amount of all things frozen sorta drives me insane. I guess the same thing could be said by non bronies about pony things though lol.

The songs were great, the story was great, Sven was awesome, Olaf sucked, Anna was better than Elsa and Let It Go makes me wanna stab the inside of my ears with a fork due to how overplayed it is. Let's not even start with effin snowmans; no peeps I don't wanna build a damn snowman.

Don't worry only half of the season will be about Frozen, the other half will involve something else!

I wouldn't say "overrated" because that word is pretentious, but I do think there are better Disney movies out there that are, sadly, left to the wayside because of the popularity that Frozen has. As for the movie itself, it's...okay. Its lesson has been done better by other Disney movies, and Elsa and Anna don't have much character behind their belts. There are a lot of unfortunate implications by the movie's standards as well (more so than any other Disney film that I can recount), and, well;

The plot twist with Hans was completely contrived and they gave no hint to it. It almost seems like it was just thrown in there because they realized they need a villain besides Elsa (as Elsa was originally intended to be the villain).

I would also like to note it plays no proper homage to what it's based off of.

Overall, yeah, I'd say I'm pretty dissatisfied with it, and the only reason Let it Go is stuck in my head is because everyone around me won't stop singing it.
