Twilight has become too perfect for me to care about her anymore

Magical powers aren't their talents though. Magic is Twilight's element of harmony, so gaining power is part of her progress as a character. For the other ponies, character progression happens in other directions. In fact, season 4, with the keys, rather made a point of that.

I didn't watched Those keys episodes yet. Hehe.

I watched until 4x11. And stopped.

Then you've already seen two of them (Rarity's and Dashie's) - you just need to see the finale to realise how they slot into the season's overarching plot.

Wait, what? Really, I didn't seen those keys. I might be getting crazy or something.

Just a minute. I am going now to Dailymotion to see if I am right.

I'm pretty sure it was mentioned that she visited the castle quite frequently. The others hadn't been back there I think since they defeated Nightmare Moon. (Or at least not many times.)

Twilight's familiarity with the location would make her feel less scared.

It was actually because she read about what the castle used to be like in The Journal of the Two Sisters.

Coincidentally, she spent most of that episode completely oblivious to everything going on in the castle even though a lot of noise was being made because she was so engrossed in reading. Because, you know she's not perfect. :P

Actually, just want to throw this in; Twilight's been working on transmutation since S1, where she turned frogs into oranges. The breezie thing could have easily been advanced study. For the mirror, Starswirl and Celestia are the ones that built it... it's not like either of them wouldn't leave notes around. Just pointing out that they didn't drop entirely out of left field.

But remember, even though Goku became really powerful, so did his enemies, so he always had a challenge

I am aware. Goku's increases in strength are justified. Twilight's on the other hand can be a bit questionable. The villains haven't really been much of a challenge... well with the exceptions of Queen Chrysalis and Tirek.

Generally episodes of FiM are slice of life focused, so powerful villains are not going to be central to the conflict most of the time, and Twilight having a lot of firepower in those situations won't help much.

They don't look like keys (yet).

Ooooooooooookay!

I thought that I wasn't paying attention. (OMG I thought that I should watch all that again)

Anyway, I need to get out. I just am very tired to continue discussing.

Bye!

And please, if somebody is very angry and are quoting my posts about something I said B4, I won't answer. I am pretty tired of discussing about Twilight.

Er, what? Are we watching the same show?

  • The first villain was Nightmare Moon. This would be the only one I could say was defeated quickly, and even then it wasn't in the actual fight at the end but the journey itself that made it so challenging, and without her friends it would've been impossible for her to defeat her.
  • The second villain was Discord. Discord was definitely challenging; his fall came in the fact that he got too cocky, but he efficiently broke Twilight. If it weren't for Celestia thinking to send her those letters right then and there Twilight would've fallen into despair and stayed there.
  • Twilight didn't even defeat Sombra. Cadance (and Spike) did. Sombra trapped Twilight and left her helpless to do anything in the latter half of one of the episodes.

All of the villains have been challenging. Sure, Tirek was the most physically powerful and sure, Chrysalis had strength in numbers, but that doesn't mean the others were easy.

Uhm. I'm 98% sure the spell you're thinking of came from too many pinkie pies a season 3 episode not season 1. Edited by GhostlyWritings

You're right, it's season 3, but I think you may have missed the point...

No actually I didn't. We never really saw her attempt transmutation spells that I can recall until that episode.

That was S3 E3. "It ain't easy being breezies" was S4 E16. It's very unlikely that she would not have done anything with transmutation spells in between that time.

You said since s1 as if it had been going on much longer.

But even still it wasn't quite as long though. Sure she obviously still did practice such spells we just didn't see it but yeah. I'm not saying it was out of left field it just wasn't shown she was practicing for quite as long as you had thought. That's all.

I regret that we will probably never again see the likes of "Lesson Zero" Twilight. ;__;  She has seemingly developed beyond the sort of character that would inadvertently cause the residents of Ponyville to fight over some miserable doll.  Which, admittedly, had an amazing mane.  I really liked her mane.

OR, perhaps we'll see alicorn-level LZ Twi.  The mere thought is disconcerting. o_O  Although...  She could make all the stallions in Equestria fall in love with Tirek (who is, of course, serving time in Tartarus), and the show would thenceforth be blissfully free of equine males!  And Tirek wouldn't be as lonely.  It's win win.

Are we forgetting the freakout Twi had in Rainbow Rocks, obsessing over that she had to do everything herself, that she had to have all the answers, that she couldn't reach out and ask her friends for help?

still seems like the same ol' Twilight. Princess or not

^That's exactly one of the reasons why I love Rainbow Rocks: It shows that Twilight still has problems and obstacles for her to overcome. While the majority agree this film's primary protagonist is Sunset Shimmer, Twilight had her own dilemma throughout the film to overcome. And the only reason Twilight was able to connect the 2 worlds together was because Pinkie pointed out "If the connection [between worlds] is totally cut off, how is Sunset Shimmer able to get a message to Twilight?!" Once she heard that last piece of the puzzle, Twilight responded, "Pinkie, you're a genius!" Only then, was Twilight able to build a device that would harness the magic in the journal to open up the portal freely!  As Megan McCarthy herself said on the commentary for Rainbow Rocks: "Twilight's a smart pony." Smart, but not perfect.

I agree, and disagree...

I think, yes, she has become a little less like she has always been, but I don't really think there is anything wrong with her.

She has become a little more powerful...so what?

She's still Twilight, and I love her. :adorkable:

True, people say that this series will last forever or at least another 4-10 years but it is extremely unlikely that they mean G4 and this set of characters but more likely MLP franchise in general. Twilight is the main reason why. Throughout 4 seasons she evolved from friendless bookworm into confident leader and Princess of Friendship. She become a powerfull Alicorn and soon, perhaps become more powerfull than Discord. The problem with such developed and powerfull characters is that they tend to be really expensive to fit into narration. Villains will have to be more powerfull than previous one and new lessons have to be made in every episode. I'm afraid this set of characters will survive no more than S5 and S6 until they will switch to new generation (or switch to slice of life episodes only and turn it into the Simpsons or Spongebob)

David Eddings wrote an essay on how to write a fantasy novel & one of his points is that Wizard Characters are dangerous.  If they don't have strict limits on how much they can do, they turn into God.  Who can get in the ring & go 12 rounds with God?  You got a problem, God blinks her eyes, problem solved.  I mean, between Discord & Twilight, what problem can they face that those 2 couldn't solve in 10 seconds flat?  The old I Dream of Jeanie show or Bewitched worked because they were comedies & because they had to conceal their powers.  Limits again.

Super Villains are very carefully tailored to the hero.  I recall 1 issue of Impulse (Flash powers), the Riddler tells him "I've hidden a bomb.." & in under a second Impulse searches all over town & finds it.  The Riddler has a hissy fit because Impulse didn't wait for the riddles & Impulse is all "Oh! I love riddles, let me try!"  Funny once, but...

That's the point, really Twilight has just grown beyond any challenge her friends could possibly help her in.  She MADE THE SUN RISE, for crying out loud.  Should she talk about her problems with that with AJ?  Yeah, I'm sure AJ could provide a lot of helpful advice on that.  She is going to be getting prayers & petitions from her subjects.  How much help should she give them, how much interference in their life, how much time for each?  Pinky has lots of friends, maybe she could advise T.

Oh, Hell.  The fans were the same Chicken Littles every time there was even a minor change & the writers proved them wrong every time.  Maybe I'm just jittery because I'M GOING CRAZY HERE WAITING FOR SEASON 5!

She made the sun rise after she'd taken Celestia, Luna, and Cadence's magic power for safe-keeping. All that massive amount of teleportation, lasers, explosions and stuff she does in the season 4 finale is by harnessing the power of all four alicorn princesses, at least two of whom (Celestia and Luna) have been shown to be far more powerful than Twilight. (It's not clear who is the more powerful between Cadence and Twilight.)

Their magic has now been returned to them. She's just got plain old Twilight magic now, which is a lot more powerful than most ponies, but still in the same league as them.

Twilight is not a perfect character. She still has character flaws. But even for all of the claims that the alicorn transformation would not change who she is, the fact is that it inevitably did.

I used to relate more to Twilight. I liked her best through Season 1 when she was humble student who had a talent but was trying to find her place in the world, and Celestia had her learn by going out and exploring friendship. I firmly believe that it's the struggle, not the payoff, that carries the most weight.

Now, she has a title and a position of power. She is most definitely not the same anymore. IMO they should have come to this eventually, but they did it too early in the show's projected run.

Instead of trying to find her place in the world, she was given the new title rather quickly. Sure, she is learning to adjust to this new position and status, but to me it's not the same as when she was a young and humble student trying to explore the world. On a personal level to me, an overtly privileged and successful character can be a bit of an immersion-breaker. That is the image that is all over media these days, and now Twilight is no different.

It was the next logical step for the show to take, but it came too early and at a considerable risk. I still like Twilight as a character, but I don't relate to her on the same level I used to.
