movies/tv Indiana Jones 4 NOT as bad as everyone says it is?

So I'm aware that I'm beating a dead pony, and am undoubtedly now viewed as delirious, but is Indy 4 REALLY as bad as everyone says? I've recently watched the movie and I can't say it was decidedly worse or more implausible than the previous Indy films. The fight scenes' choreography was excellent, the story(though rooted in a debunked myth) is befitting of an Indy mystery, the villain was a strong character, and overall the film was a solid title. Sure the CG alien was freaking lame-looking but personally I think all CG is lame. I think it really gets a bad rep because everyone loves to hate Shia LeBeouf. Or "the new" stuff because their nostalgia goggles are glued to their heads.

Thoughts?

Shia Labeouf is probably the only thing really disliked about the movie. Otherwise I found it very fun(and prefer it over Temple of Doom)

TOD has legitimately scary s*** and is the only one where Indy actually kills the Big Bad (The others just do themselves in via the MacGuffins.).

It felt really watered down and lame compared to the other movies. There wasn't really that same grit, humor, and sense of adventure from the first three

If you wanna get really deep into it, Mr. Plinkett has you covered :)

*Refuses to watch the video if it doesn't omit the "Olsen Twins" part.*

Now, unfortunately, Temple of Doom is the only Indy movie I haven't seen so I can't comment on its standing with relation to Crystal Skull. I've heard before that ToD was kinda the black sheep of the series before Crystal Skull was released, though.

ToD is different, but I still like it. Unlike KotCS, it retains a lot of what makes Indiana Jones so entertaining.

I could see why Temple of Doom turns people off, as it goes for a more horror, cultish and supernatural feel than the somewhat more lighthearted action adventure flicks against Nazis like the other two films.  That being said, Temple of Doom is still intense, thrilling and well executed and worthy of bearing the title Indian Jones.

Kingdom of the Crystal is at best mediocre, which is damning for a Spielberg production.  The plot is nonsensical, the action is stupid, the premise is absurd and the characters are utterly forgettable.  It is just two hours of meh, and never lives up to the other three films.

I haven't seen it yet. But I've seen scenes of it online. To me, the CGI looks pretty bad. I know peers who complained about the nuke refrigerator scene because it is unrealistic. I feel they're going too far with that yet I believe they have a point.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

The refrigerator scene was VERY fantastical; but that's the point of movies, isn't it? To do and show the fantastical and implausible because it's fun to do?

I never understood the hate for this scene. It's like people act as if all of the other Indiana Jones films never had stupid and fantastical scenes

I know people who would impale your head on a spike if you even suggested that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was anything other than the worst thing ever produced by humanity. Personally, I don't think it's a bad movie per say, but in my opinion it just isn't as good as the first three.

I'd say it's one of the more over-hated movies that I'm familiar with. Honestly I find it QUITE enjoyable. Of course it's no where near the level that "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "The Last Crusade" reached, but I find it to be MUCH more enjoyable than the mess that "Temple of Doom" was.

Now, I can understand why some people have complaints about "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," but I think hype hurt this movie overall. I'm not saying it was perfect or even that it was a great Indy film, but I think it's better than people realize.

For me, ToD was a train wreck. It was a comedy that wanted to be an action movie, and it just fails throughtout for me. KotCS at least has that sense of adventure and danger throughout.

And hell, maybe the refrigerator was just ultra-reinforced or something.

It was part of a U.S. Military project, after all.

I swear there doesn't seem to be any middleground when it comes to common movie opinions. People will either treat a movie as the greatest thing since sliced bread, or revile it to the point where they say it "killed a franchise". Nowhere has this been more evident than Indiana Jones, Star Wars, etc. It won't be any surprise to me how Star Wars Episode VII will turn out at this point.

I think I actually saw Crystal Skull before the other Indies, and I remember falling in love with the series afterward, and I want to thank it for making me feel this way even more so after seeing the first 3 films. I may have no idea why people hate Shia LaBeouf, but I honestly have no intention to find out. I liked this movie, and I'm not ashamed to call it an addition to the series.
