Diamond Tiara, or Silver Spoon?

Not really a comparison or a poll, just looking for insight.

 

Obviously, there's not a lot of people that like these two. There are people that do, though, and out of them, i've noticed there seems to be a major split between the two characters. Pretty much everywhere, people either seem to like Diamond Tiara, or they like Silver Spoon, but not both. Most often, this comes in the two categories:

 

1) People who like Diamond Tiara, but don't really seem to care about or notice Silver Spoon

 

2) People who like Silver Spoon, but think Diamond Tiara is irredeemable

 

At least, this is the format i've seen; out of the dozen or so of fanfics i've read concerning them both, youtube videos like this:

and so on.

 

So, what's with the split in opinions? Discuss any part of this topic you wish. Some sample questions if you're not sure where to start: If you're in one of these categories, what side do you fall on? Are you somewhere else entirely? Have you noticed something different?

Diamond Tiara is my favorite filly and one of my favorite overall ponies, but I haven't really paid much attention to Silver since she doesn't talk/appear as much. She has a pretty design but I don't really care for her. Diamond just has a prettier design, a nicer voice, is just more interesting, and is more relatable; Silver just exists.

Ooh! This is a tough question since I don't like both of them for the way they've treated the CMC. I'll go with Silver Spoon since she talks less than Diamond Tiara thus making her a lesser bully.

Well, as much as they seem to have in common, they're both somewhat different characters.  One's a leader, the other is more of a follower.  DT is the more charismatic Alpha of the two, which makes her a great antagonist in episodes like Ponyville Confidential.  Silver Spoon is more of a Beta following DT's lead and between that and the fact that she was the first to applaud Granny Smith in Family Appreciation Day, leads some to think of her as a pony that's not so bad, just under the influence of a bad apple.  That's why she's perceived as more redeemable.

This one's a toughie. While we've seen more of Diamond Tiara, I think that Silver Spoon has a prettier design.

 

For now I'm going to say Diamond Tiara. She may be a prick, but it's at least better than a sidekick character with little personality like Silver Spoon. Not only that, but I feel as if we'll see more of Diamond because of Ponyville Confidential. Not to mention that the voice actress of Diamond hinted that in Season 5 we'll be seeing more of her than just your stereotypical school bully.

Silver Spoon, tbh I think they are both redeemable, but Silver Spoon seems to be the one that would change faster due to her being a "sidekick"(seems to act as she does just to gain DT's approval) and from the moment stated above with her applauding Granny Smith. Plus I have read too many fanfics with Silver Spoon redeeming herself so I am a bit biased, I guess I just don't really see SS all that badly even though she bullies the heck out of the CMC(Which rightly pissed me off, but only when DT does it for some reason as I just believe that Silver Spoon's motives are elsewhere).

Well, there's room for character development on both. I do like Silver Spoon though. She seems to be the character that has a better chance at becoming a better pony or the good guy faster than Diamond Tiara.

I agree that SS would be easier to switch to being a good guy than DT.

 

But I think once switched, DT would be a gooder good guy than SS. She just seems smarter, and more driven. If I had to choose one of them to fight in my corner, it would be DT every time.

Well okay, firstly I'll start off by saying I don't like either of them but that's because of their characters which makes me think they are both very well made. I can believe them as snooty mean girls, which makes me like Diamond Tiara a bit more, I think the idea of the dumb mean girl "sidekick" (silver spoon) isn't great, and I say that in any show/movie with the whole mean girls idea. But as I dislike them both I could understand you disregarding my whole point :3

Well, the general question was more of why people tend to pick more of one or the other. For you, personally, it's who'd you pick over the other, all things considered, and why.

Yep, I'm in group 1 haha. Silver spoon is just kind of... around. I think it's funny that the only real thing about Silver Spoon's character I hear about is about her being redeemable. It's like her whole character so far is created by Diamond Tiara's (well, I guess that's true anyway).

In Ponyville Confidential you see a lot more of that from Diamond Tiara. You see her turn the school newspaper around from a piece of fluff that nobody reads to the most influential publication in Ponyville. She shows pretty effective leadership skills and entrepreneurship, even if her journalistic ethics are a little questionable.

Well, i don't deny it. I'd say i'm more of the 2nd category from what you've described. I do not know whether or not they deliberately made DT and SS that way or not. Silver spoon seems to be more of a follower. She seems less assertive in the pair's bullying routines, so it feels as if DT's influence on her would end, she might even turn out to be quite nice.

 

On the other hand, DT shown to have a sharp mind, capable of quickly hatching up schemes and knowing how to make the lives of the CMC harder. She's bold, assertive, and displays childishly cruel amusement at others' misfortunes. I don't like her too much because of that.

Diamond Tiara has a nice sleek design if over all

of the two and half the  reason she might be a

brat is having only one parent and her dad might

lavish his love by giving into every little whime

and all and he might be also away a lot leaving

a empty spot for the need of initiation  of any kind....

 

Silver Spoon might just be weak willed and follows

DT who has the stronger will and they have been

friends from the start as babies which might also

make some sense  if you want them and all and

how they act around the other but due to being

a background as she is,  I feel like Silver Spoon

might have some hidden sides and I do like her

design in having glasses!  Also her mane sticks

out a bit in the design they use on it.

 

Over All I Like both and dislike both and given,

they can be used in fanfics in a very open area

just no under age clopping...

I prefer Diamond. She is a leader pony, a boss pony. Silver Spoon is a follower and is not likely any better than Tiara in spirit and I don't believe the show hints to any redeemable features in the character. Some people came up with the idea because it might be interesting if that was the case but it isn't.

Lol, I thought this topic was going to be "If you could kill Diamond Tiara or Silver Spoon, which would you choose?"  I hate em.  But that's because they're written to be hated.  They're jerks.  But as jerks, I'll stipulate that they're fairly well written.  They're effective jerks.  I don't have a preference of one over the other.  I just want to see the CMC put them in their place.
