Do you consider yourself critical?

Not at all, for myself. I always just watch and read stuff for the entertainment. I'm almost never critical :P.

As a person, I can be very critical, depending on the mentality I put on when approaching certain topics. I used to be quite critical of the show - in a good way, analyzing all the great parts of it - but sadly when Season 2 aired and the blissful fun of finding fun stuff ended and became real wars about stuff like Mare-Do-Well, I stopped trying to overthink the show and just enjoy it for what it was. Watching a pony song or seeing episodes brings a very carefree, happy feeling, like I'm a kid again! I don't really care to analyze episodes these days, I just watch the show for the joy it brings to the soul. :)

Some episodes for whatever reason I enjoyed less, and others I enjoyed more, and that's the beginning and end of it for me. But I enjoy them all!

Not in the slightest. I've walked out of a movie theater mad all of thrice in my life. (The Last Airbender, AVATAR, and Percy Jackson.)

I can certainly tell you why I like the things I do and the things I don't, but in general, I will come rushing to my passions defense loooooooooooooong before I say (or maybe even recognize) the faults.

I don't think being critical is a bad thing at all but I can't seem to find much fault with the series so far the mane one would be that the season finale episodes tend to take a long time to build up but then end pretty quickly imo. I think being critical means you know the show well enough to see where it could be improved upon. I am equally skeptical of poke'mon but not so much ponies.

I've been in this fandom for over 3 Years and i never felt any sort of hate towards the show.

Sure, there are sometimes things i don't like about the show, but i never looked that deep inside of it to really give a  :yay:  to actually be very over critical of it. I mostly take it for what it is and just dive into this fantastic world that i fell in love with, where cute ponies do cute things. Even my most dislliked episode in the series (i say disliked, because hated is a very strong word) has something good in it.

Some people think that i am too positive and that might be the case, but i rather stay like this, then turn sour over a cartoon about pastel colored ponies.

I'm critical about lots of things, but I'm quite lenient on this show. I usually bend my headcanon to fit whatever continuity errors are made and I don't dwell too long on episodes I don't like. I mainly do that because this show is one of the very few things I can still be idealistic about.

In a different thread, I said something like "I always remind myself that this is a kids' show" whenever I start thinking too deeply about things. Furthermore, it's generally episodic and only has a minimal overarching plot so episodes can be watched in any order (at least within their respective seasons).

Bit shaky reasoning here, I guess, but I really don't want to be too critical of this show. First and foremost, I want to enjoy the magical talking ponies. Everything else takes a back seat to that.

I recall Mark Twain saying "It's hard to find the good in some people & it's harder when there isn't any"  I feel the same way about some of the episodes.  Still, any show you care to name has some lame episodes if it's on long enough.

I'm very analytic, but I'm not very critical.

I could (and have) spent dozens of hours, days on end in my time on this forum since I started in '12 discussing the lore and characters of the show. Talking about hypothetical scenarios, comparing characters, powers and species of ponies and monsters. Taking open characters like many of the villains and side characters and forming headcanons about their backgrounds and relationships towards other characters. Writing lengthy lore topics taking what we know and drawing logical conclusions, to create vast explanations of how the equine world of magic works, and how it came to be.

But for the most part, I'm very constructive and focus on building the lore and characters through fan theories, rather than taking factors from the show and critically analyzing the good and the bad. Reading what a critic thinks is immensely boring in my opinion, so I have no desire to ever act as one, either. I don't care what some individual I don't know thinks of an episode. I'd rather participate in discussion about the show and the lore overall, than nitpick the good and the bad about last week's episode. I'm a creative person, and we're a creative fandom; being a simple critic of the show bores me.

* When I find things I don't agree with in the show or find to be rather confusing, I alter my headcanons accordingly, no sweat.

* When things happen that I can't do so with *not a very common occurrence*, I chock it up to shitty writing and dwell on it no further.

* Focusing on the imaginative fronts, the further building of this amazing universe; that's much more interesting and worthwhile to participate in than 'I thought so and so was particularly out of character these past few episodes, I feel as though blah blah blah blah blah.'

Nope. I have an "I'm ok with this" attitude. I used to dislike certain characters and stuff, but now, there isn't a single character, episode, etc, in ANY thing I'm a fan of that I hate. I'm just too lazy to hate I guess. XD That's why I'd probably be terrible at reviews... I can't bother finding bad aspects about anything.

I don't look deep into the show and try to figure out everything about an episode I like or dislike. For the most part, I just sit down, watch the show, see my favorite ponies, and find out what parts stood out for me. There are episodes I enjoyed while there are others that are too boring for me. There are characters I like while their are others I don't. One thing I like doing is trying to look for interesting catchphrases to reference. The same thing for the other shows and movies I watch. I'm not the one who can write a long analysis and review of one episode or even thinks of doing something like that.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

I am not critical of the episodes. They are fun and maybe aren't done ideally but I still enjoyed them. Perhaps the only episode I disliked a part of was feeling pinky keen because the lessen on friendship is at best controversial and at worst just plain wrong

I consider myself very critical, actually.  I love to analyze things, including this show.  But I also consider myself to be pretty fair, and I try to see things from all points of view, and I can almost always find redeeming factors to episodes or scenes I don't like.  But for me, it's just fun to pick apart the show.  I'll always throw in my obligatory logic quibble for every episde so my brain stops itching.  But I also take my own criticisms with a grain of salt.

But I would still like to know, do you think of yourself as a critical person, able to call out the bad parts of your favorite show or discern what makes your favorite part so awesome?

I am very critical. I have blamed MLP FIM for a lot over the years. Especially the creation of Equestria Girls over the real show, and Twilight becoming a Princess way too early.

Not really, I simply like to watch the show and enjoy it. While I have nothing against being critical(as I have my own problems with certain episodes), there are cases where people take the show way to seriously to the point where they're just nitpicky, often complaining about things no reasonable person would care about, like the "slavery" garbage from Trade Ya

Yeah, this post really hasn't aged well for me. I got really critical of the show with seasons 6 with actually hating some a lot of the episodes they were putting out, I really wasn't enjoying a lot of it

S6 onward pretty much made me become what I hated back then lol

Nope I’m not very critical, or hard to please.

I like that I’m like this, it makes enjoying things easier.

I’m not even critical with MLP,  my all time favorite show.    Cute ponies was all I needed to enjoy it.

I'm critical with a lot of things, but not really with FiM. I like to enjoy the show for what it is, without delving too deep into it. There have been things which have bothered me, but I usually try to brush it off.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

Not usually. I kind of like to analyze and look deep into things but I'm usually pretty relaxed when it comes to criticism. I'll critique stuff I don't like but as long as it's worth enjoying I can usually laugh the bad stuff off and have a good time. When something annoys me though it really annoys me.

I can relate to this, though for me it came much later, literally near the end of Season 9. Before that I was pretty much like "Yeah, I'm pretty happy with the show in general!" and then we got to the end and it was a huge whiplash for me when suddenly I was genuinely hating something it'd done and I've only gotten more sour about it and suddenly I can understand where people who complained about other things are coming from much better.

Twilight is best pony.

Why hello MLPForums! What have ya been up to?

My critical thinking comes and goes. Sometimes I can rant about a subject for hours pulling apart every detail and other times I just take things as they are and can't really tell what it is that makes me like them or anything and just can't think deeply about them in a way that's translatable to anything that's not total abstraction.

And with MLP I've never found anything I'd want to bother to criticize in a negative way. I just eat it all up and enjoy every second.
