What do you think of the Apple Bloomers April Fools joke? Would you watch it?

*Phew* At least it was a fan parody and did not air on TV, still though Applebloom is depicted as like what 13, isn't that kinda sick?

Well, IIRC, the characters of Sailor Moon, or at least Sailor Moon herself, is around 14, so if anything it's meant to be a parody. There aren't any sick intentions behind; it's just poking fun at both Sailor Moon (and similar anime) and MLP.

Yeah well to be fair the characters in sailor moon look like they're in their twenties (so that makes it a little better IMO).

No matter how hard I try these ponies will simply never leave me.

That's pretty much an anime thing, though. Doesn't change their age for me. :P Then you have shows like the PPG anime where they are visibly younger when they go through the transformation, so...

haha, they really showed that on a "Family-friendly" TV-Channel?^^

That is just hilarious^^

As mentioned it wasn't shown on TV; just a fan-made thing made to mimic a TV advert.

Not to mention that there was a second clip with Apple Blooms shirt off. Granted there was nothing to see, but considering the general age of the character that would still be dangerous stuff for a company like Hasbro to try.

Yeah, I think that should caused more controversy then the S5 premiere  , specially with the cloppers around

According to an older version of a script. Apple Bloom is 7. (I can't remember where I read that, but I'm sure I read that.) Therefore, nope nope nopeity nope nope *nopes away*

Applebloom being 7 would make sense in the normal MLP since we know Sweetie Belle had a 5th birthday party and is now older. I always put the CMC somewhere between 7 to 9 years old since a lot of character on TV who are that age act in a similar way to the CMC.

Yeah it is an anime thing that I was never much of a fan of.

I think the people who made this were spoofing the way people say Equestria Girls looks and feels like a magical girl anime during the transformation sequence. They might have also been spoofing the fact that popular western media i.e Powerpuff Girls and Lilo & Stitch get rebooted as animes in Japan i.e Powerpuff Girls Z and Stitch! I wonder how they made the ad look so legit? I would maybe watch once but I would never consider it canon in any sense and would pretty much disregard it. It looks like it would be a bad show if it were real and I hope Hasbro does NOT get any ideas. The way they look like genetically altered horse humans in the fake ad also looks tacky and creepy compared to the Equestria Girls designs even though EG had some flaws like a lack of horns.

Ha, I'd totally watch it, looks awesome. Surprisingly there actually are a lot of fans that want Apple Bloomers to become a thing. I will admit though, I'm shocked at a part or two in the trailer that was allowed to be on TV, as others have mentioned before. Anyways yeah, I'd definitely watch it. can we just pretend this is the next generation of MLP so we can feel a little better about it? Haha

I don't actually see any problem with Apple Bloom putting clothes on. Furry cartoon characters generally get a free pass when it comes to featureless nudity. Cows who are allowed to have udders.

Example:

Tuff Puppy, Kitty Katswell generally wears clothes. She also wore a two piece swimsuit. Then the Hot Dog episode.

Maybe as a series of shorts that poke fun at Mahou Shojo, but not as a full series.

Also, not only was Apple Bloom changing clothes a bit much, but there's footage of Sweetie Belle in a swimsuit with a slow motion plash that also smells of lolicon bait...

How do you think WE feel?!

Wow.  I love how when you search youtube for Apple Bloomers, you see dozens of video thumbnails of that close-up swimsuit shot.  Wow.  Wow.  LOL.  That is funny.  That is really funny.  But if this were real, no I wouldn't watch because it looks dumb, and I think that was the point.

I would like to reiterate that this didn't air on Discovery Family and was entirely fan-made just so that we all understand that that is what happened. Really, I feel like the sub-par animation should have made that fairly clear.

On the upside, since it was fan-made, it's up to us as the fans to decide if it becomes a series or not. Personally, I'd watch a cute anthro magical girl series starring the CMC if it was well-made and not, erm, oddly sexual...

I should mention that Apple Bloom, Sweetie Bell, and Fluttershy already walk around naked anyway. The only difference in their design is that they walk on two legs instead of 4. Otherwise their basic body designs are the same. And ponies in FIM have stood up on two legs showing off their entire underside with no problem.

  • 1 month later...

I can't believe how controversial this has become.

I used to watch Sailor Moon (American version)  in the 1990s when it was on free TV here in Phoenix.  This is clearly a parody of that.

Yurs, the Sailor Scouts were shown nude when changing into their super costumes.  Granted, except for their eyes they were totally whited out & covered in sparkles.  The Sailor Scouts were, however, totally nude while changing.  This was 20-25 years ago & I suppose before a lot of folks time.  Still, as Apple Jack pointed out in Best Night Ever, they don't usually were any clothes.

Would I watch the show?  Maybe not a whole half hour but the occasional sketch on SNL, yes (Like Ace & Gary)

I don't know one way or the other because I don't get Discovery Family, but that seems to make more sense. The video is pretty racy for MLP; why would they risk controversy for a mere April Fools' prank?

I had the author's name in derpibooru, problem is...... there's also  clop if you search him
