gaming "That part" in a video game

"That part" in a video game, whether it be a ridiculously hard level, or a ridiculously hard boss, they're levels, bosses, moments you always dread whenever you replay it, or keep you from replaying it.

Personally the moment that always defined this for me was in Final Fantasy Tactics, with the Battle with Velius(following an already tough fight with Weigraf). And your particularly screwed if you save after the level before, especially if you're underleveled

... as you may have guessed, I didn't come up with this sentence but randomly found it on the net. But I like it.

Mine would have to be the Nightmare from Metroid: Other M.

Even though I played that game about... a few years ago. I remember destroying his faceplate and thinking "What the hell!? This thing is ugly!"

The Fade from Dragon Age: Origins instantly comes to mind. Anyone who's had the misfortune of playing through it will tell you that it's easily one of the most boring and monotonous game levels ever created.

And unfortunately, there's absolutely no way to skip it. You can choose to go through it sooner, or you can choose to go through it later, but to beat the game, you're going to have to go through it.

I remember when playing MGS2 on extreme difficulty on PS2. After weeks I reached the second torture part, where you have to press like hell the triangle button. I needed 2 years(!!!!!) to survive that part with few stripes life.

Reminder:

On the HD Version on PS3 I did that by the first time, same goes on PS Vita

Also other games on highest difficultiest, urgh

There is salvation, my friend (if you have it on PC). There is a mod that lets you skip the fade. I honestly could not stomach playing that game again, knowing that I would have to do the fade, until I knew that I could mod it out.

A similar circumstance, not quite a Bioware game but a sequel to one: Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2. The opening 2 worlds to that game: Peragus Mining Station and the Telos Citadel Station straight after take up a good 4-5 hours of the opening gameplay and are some of the most painfully slow and boring levels I've ever had to suffer through. Whats worse is the opening cut scene shows you all the better levels later in the game once you have your lightsaber and force powers and are generally kicking ass, but here your stuck with the rubbish gunplay mechanics with you and your opponents missing 90% of the time because you obviously all went to the stormtrooper marksmanship academy.. post-30925-0-85741500-1428863233.png

It's just a very tedious start to what is otherwise a brilliant (if a little buggy..) RPG, and it makes me cringe every time I think about going back to play it again. I'm pretty sure there's mods out there for the PC version that exist solely to let you skip them. Says a lot.

KH2 Demyx and his instant death water clones. Enough said.

Most of the combat in the first Mass Effect makes me never want to play it again, but the Lady Benezia fight is the worst when she uses stasis on you at the very start, making it so that it's highly probably you'll die before you even get to push one button.

The Little Mermaid Levels/world from Epic Mickey Power Of Illusion.

That was soo freaking hard and frustratingly difficult that it took me forever just to beat it.  Man what a sudden difficulty spike that was for sure.

Well, in Dead Rising 2, you can only save in restrooms. They act as save points. For me that part would be the moment you walk into the restrooms after 3 hours of game looking to save. However, instead, you trigger a boss fight (one of the boss fights take place in the restrooms). and of course, I get killed and lose three hours of game.

So, in short, that part is the side mission  with Brandon and I can't remember the name of it.

ALL of Fire Emblem: Thracia 776.

Seriously though, the Chapter 22 of that same game is the Hell on Earth.

map22.png

The three units that are shown(Cyas,Coen and Reinhard) give ALL the enemy units an insane ammount of Evade and Hit(like 95 more) due for their Leadership Stars, which increase by 5 both evade and hit, and, on this game, where the weapons have low accuracy by default,it's a nightmare for you,but not for them, which will hit more often. Even the Soldiers at the beginning of the level can kill you easily. Also, reinforcements are unlimited on this game, which doesn't help much.

And then the staves. On this game, staves have unlimited range, but this part is where they get really carried away with that. On the first turns, expect half of your units to be asleep, silenced or berserked, and seeing that status don't wear off on this game, that increases the nightmare.

The worst aspect about this level(other than the leadership stars) is Reinhard. Even his name is a pun about the nightmare that's gonna make you pass through. He comes with powerful stats, a combination of Skill that will make you curse the day you ever played that game, and brave weapons, which can hit you twice all the time.

And I don't talk about if your good units is Fatigued, then it would be better to reset the whole game, because this level will turn into impossible

This chapter was designed to punish people for playing that game, that's the only rational explanation I can think of.

The Jak II mission where you have to escape from the Water Slums after obtaining a Seal Piece for the Seal of Mar.

This guy here took it slow. Me and my brother were on this one mission for hours as kids. It even took me awhile to get pass this on my most recent playthrough a few years ago. This entire game was probably the hardest out of the whole series.
