What will the MLP fandom do after the show ends?

Knight Hadron

Recommended Posts

I put this in debate...feel free to move it to Sugarcube Corner or wherever the overlords want.

What do you think the MLP fandom will do after the show ends? Will it fade off or keep going? What will happen to all of the cons? There was a lull in pony activity from the fandom between S4 and S5...will that be the case between the last season and the last day of MLPForums?

Summary: Will the MLP fandom slow down and stop after the feature film (or whenever MLP:FiM ends)?

My guess the fandom will dwindle and go a little dormant, but a lot of fans will still stay loyal. that I am sure off. It might just become more of a subculture thing eventually.

Isn't it already its own culture?

Darn the 100 char min.

I got into the fandom after season 4 finished so I'm wondering if my pony time will be cut short. :)

Huh? We do have it confirmed? Thought it was just a rumor.

Well maybe I choose my words badly, but you're right in it being its own subculture. I just tried to saythat it is probably be known less as a fandom and more as a subculture ^3^ But who knows, there might be 30 seasons planned for all we know o.o

Also yes I think I saw something about it somewhere that they confirmed a season 6 in the making, can't remember where.

I think it will continue on, especially since it's already inspired such a diverse portfolio of creativity.

I'm not too worried about what will happen when the show does eventually go off the air. Look at the Star Trek fandom, which survived for decades between show releases.

The fandom is too big to just disappear but then again who knows how much people will change by the end of the series. I hope it continues on and on. Another question is how will the series end? How do you bring all their adventures to an epic close?

I'd imagine the 2017 movie would be a good milestone to end the series on.

I'd be okay with an EQG spinoff happening after FiM ends, even though I know a lot of people would dislike it just on principle...and also because Brad would probably have to be a recurring character in it. (Though if they're going to deepen his character, a spin-off would be the place to do it.)

Think about the amount of money Hasbro and various other interlinked companies make off of it. Considering MLP was a franchise for many, many years before FiM, it's been shown to be successful and ditching it would be a costly mistake.

So I reckon they'll keep it going indefinitely, or at least someone will. But look at all the stuff we make- tonnes on a daily basis! We'll carry on, maybe some will leave, but there'll be a large core that will always keep a bit of pony around.

1. I think this should be in the Show Discussion section. If the OP doesn't mind, I'll PM someone about that.

2. Given the sheer volume of fan-made content that have gone into both the show and the movies, I think that the brony fandom will probably create a new series that will continue the adventures of the Mane 6, if they're still around at the end of the show.

Man, I really hope that MLP: FiM doesn't end, but because of all the revenue that Hasbro gets from this show, I think that it probably won't end it for a long time.

I think they might end FiM after the movie and then go onto another generation....perhaps? I also don't want the show to degrade in quality because it is forced to go on.

Well I guess we will have to wait until the fifth generation of My Little Pony and see if the fandom evolves from a one show based fandom into a full-on franchise fandom like Spider-Man, Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There's always that possibility considering all franchise fandoms were sparked by one show or comic and branched off from there. If it can happen to Transformers, it could happen to MLP. Some could even say that it's partially one as there's a fraction of the fandom are also fans of My Little Pony G1. Anyway after the monumental success of this generation Hasbro will more than likely will want this success to continue and will want more shows to match the quality of Friendship is Magic. I could be wrong but we'll just have to wait till the next gen starts and see what happens. I do hope that after this show ends that there will be another great MLP show.

Yeah, there will be Friendship is Magic purists and will be fans of this that will hate the next generations no matter what but that's what comes with every fandom.

This thread appears to be related to the My Little Pony franchise and/or the Bronydom in general. Thus, it has been sentenced to Sugarcube Corner.

We were sent to the corner to think about what we did.  Good thing it is just Sugarcube Corner. :)

Let me ask people this: How is starting a new generation different then forcing it to continue on? If they start a new generation then how does that save it from degrading? What stops them from making the mistake of G3.5 baby horse edition again?

I've thought about this topic a lot.

Well...perhaps it would be more accurate to say that I dreaded this topic a lot. It's like thinking about your best friend dying or something.

But in the end, I don't think the show is the be-all and end-all of what My Little Pony is. It's true we all love it, that it's what laid the foundation for our humble community. But look at how we've taken this kernel of creativity and run with it! It's my opinion that, at least for bronies, MLP belongs as much to the fans as it does to its original creators.

As long as the love of ponies continues to live in our hearts, as long as there are wonderful and kind and creative people who can imagine new stories and pictures and music, then I don't think the show will ever truly end. It may no longer be something professional, but the fandom and its universe will continue to inspire and delight.

On a personal level, I spend much of my imaginative time essentially living in Ponyville. So, even if I'll be sad when the show says its final goodbye, I know that I'll never have to say goodbye to my very best pony friends!

Since there are many fandoms out there that are continuing and are going fairly strong despite the source material being dead, I would believe that our fandom will still stay strong.

The fandom still strived when we were wondering what would happen in the next season/ about the past/ characters.

I brohoof people who wrote that it's hard to imagine the series stopping.

Well, even if they make a FiM movie, I don't think Hasbro would end G4 with that. Why? I think it's more like an OAV (well, even if it's not really an anime, and it probably would have the same writers and all that jazz), so yeah, maybe it'll be a milestone, but not the tombstone of the series. Hasbro makes so much money with the series, and they are aware of what the fans want, but don't fall in the fanservice plothole. But I clearly don't think the movie would end up the series.

To answer the core question of this thread: I don't think the brony-pegasis community would split out. We're ponies forever, ponies together, We're ponies to the core. (Yeah, I love making references, but this one was so obvious I'm suprised nopony made it before) The fandom is too big to just split up just like that. I think theere still will be brony meetups and conventions, just as for the Star Wars and Star Trek fandoms (and so many others,  of course). But the only thing I could say right now, is "Wait and see".

Some will stay, Some will leave but the fandom will not just die because the show ends, There will surly still be musicians making music and artists making art. But the day the show ends, Will be a dark day...

1) Whine for spin-offs.

2) Keep drawing MLP fanart/porn.

3) Keep spreading the word about how awesome MLP was.

4) Keep rewatching all episodes to keep themselves in a brony-shape through time.

5) Still trashing Inkbunny, Deviantart, Rule 34 with MLP fanart/porn, as well as trashing with MLP stuff forums that have absolutely no relation to the show (like asking if there are any MLP fans on a some heavy equipment or war game forums).

6) Try to bronyfy their future children.

still goes on even the show ended

Aye; in some form or fashion the fandom will continue on. Granted the size will be smaller and fan-works won't be as frequent, but they'll likely still be there in some function.

That brings us to another queston: When this Generation finally ends (Because it will) How will this fandom react to the G5?

im not sure since G4 were popular soo much that some of them were afraid that G5 will be returning form of G3

but we all have to faced the worst possible thing that might happen in near future.

true, if star trek fandom survive since 90s so does FIM can do the same too. Granted the brony fandom were large, im sure they survive longer into future.

There's an even better example; Battlestar Galactica.

The original show was broadcast in 1978 and canceled after one season; even though it had high ratings. The reimagined series came about in 2003-2004, I think. Between the two (not counting Galactics 1980) the fandom survived, and in some cases still thrived; even when there was no show to support it.

Granted there were a couple of revival projects that didn't go anywhere, but still; the BSG fandom was still there AND active.

I have a feeling bronies will be the same. :)
