Princess Celestia: Just Like Us?

Can anyone mention any actual examples of Princess Celestia using her magic except in sending and viewing letters? For the ruler of Equestria she does not seem all that powerful.

She raises the sun every day, and the moon for a time, contained her sister on the moon, imprisoned the god of chaos Discord with only the help of her sister, and managed to become the ruler of all Equestria.

Even though they cannot use the elements, that doesn't change the ability of her strength. It's like a power imbued item, even though if the power was in the item, that person (in this case pony) still wielded the item, which only made them stronger. And Celestia was able to use the elements on her own, as it requires 5 very specific and select few ponies to use now.

I wonder why she uses her magic so rarely? And why she did not confront Princess Luna or Discord on their return? She did not in any way aid those who she depended upon.

I would naturally assume it's because she is a support character who is not as brought up in the show as some BG ponies. I do hope for a episode that would dedicate to Celestia in some way. I feel she could be much more of value to the show than the currently is.

And if they did do an episode for her, I am sure you would see some of her magical abilities.

She a Boss. In a game, you'll only see the Boss very rarely but even though he or she is so rarely seen, their power is still known. She wields her power rarely because its too powerful to use all the time and uses it less than often greatly increases the effect on the audience and other ponies because, its so rarely used.

The comparison is iffy. Discord is not an agent of evil, more he is an agent of the random. Celestia is far more caring, and far less devine than Zeus. This makes her more approachable and easier to identify with.

Well, the newspaper article doesn't raise any doubt about how powerful she is, just how she acts. But a pony once told me: It is better to have someone close rather than someone more talented yet far away. So even if Celestia isn't as powerful as she seems, the fact that she is just like us makes her connection with her ponies all the better.

Because she only uses it when it is deemed absolutely necessary, not to just make instant coffee or some shit. But mostly because that way the show doesn't become all "then Celestia did something and good happened."

She shows the ability to teleport at the end of Lesson Zero, presumably all the way from Ponyville to Canterlot. She also managed to shut down Twilight's first uncontrolled burst of magic with nothing but a simple hoof to her flank. There's no doubt she's powerful in terms of magic. As for facing Nightmare Moon and Discord, Nightmare Moon made her move at night, which would no doubt mean she would be more powerful, especially since Celestia had already lost her connection to the Helements of Armoury. As for Discord, he was shown to be stronger than Celestia (again, sans Helements) by randomly mixing up the day and night cycles. But that's okay, since he's clearly more powerful than any pony, and only lost to the Mane 6 due to his own arrogance.

 

Here's the timeline as I see it:

1. Mischievous Spirit of Chaos (Discord) reigns. Luna and Celestia team up and use the EoH together to turn him to stone. The Royal Pony Sisters begin their rule of Equestria as equals.

2. Luna becomes Nightmare Moon. Celestia either managed to wrest control of the EoH away from her, or NNM becomes incapable of using the EoH at all, by default causing their power to go to Celestia. Using the EoH, Celestia seals NNM away in the moon.

3. 1000 years later, NNM escapes (at night, allowing her to neutralize Celestia) and is defeated by the Mane 6, the new wielders of the EoH.

 

We can probably assume that Celestia lost her connection to the elements somewhere between 2 and 3. Perhaps the birth (or alternatively, the discovery of the Cutie Marks) of the Mane 6 leads to Celestia losing her own connection to them.

 

Finally, we can conclude that Celestia's raising of the sun is not part of the power granted by the elements. From Hearth's Warming Eve, we know that the unicorns as a group raised the sun, a task now done by Celestia alone. So Celestia is more powerful than the entire race of unicorns.

 

Sorry for the rambling, but in the end, I would say Celestia is for certain stronger in magic than any unicorn, and likely/perhaps stronger than every unicorn combined.

But maybe... Celestia isn't powerful all. It's all a sham. She gets up in the morning and makes grunting sounds while the sun rises to make people thing she did it. All records indicating that the sun and the moon traversed the sky on their own before her have been destroyed.

But maybe... Celestia isn't powerful all. It's all a sham. She gets up in the morning and makes grunting sounds while the sun rises to make people thing she did it. All records indicating that the sun and the moon traversed the sky on their own before her have been destroyed.

 

The whole tyrant thing is from the community. In the show she is more of a guidance counselor, or a parent than a ruler to everypony. She teaches them right from wrong, about friendship, and other important life lessons.

 

And both Celestia and Luna are powerful beings. And Celestia has deomonstrated raising the sun before.

I was referring to sending Luna to the moon for 1000 years, and turning Discord to stone for 1000 years. Not that I'm questioning Your Majesty's wisdom.
