Does anyone else not like Rainbow Dash and why, if so..? >.<

I can't see why anyone would actually hate any characters on the show, to be blunt. I mean, think about it-- the characters go by one particular stereotype and everyone bases the characters off of noted stereotype. (Ex. Twilight Sparkle the nerd, Fluttershy the shy crybaby, Rainbow Dash the cocky jock, Rarity the germaphobe fashionista, Pinkie the party anim-- err.. I mean pony.., and last but not least Applejack the well-known background pony-- oops! I mean.. strong willed know-it-all moral-full character!)

Yet now to come to think of it, some people have pet-peeves as noted stereotypes above. For example, I used to hate Rainbow Dash, now I'm okay with her. I used to love Fluttershy, but now I'm less interested. I used to love Twilight, but now I'm starting to realize she has character development and personality depth of a damn potato. Can't even say that-- potatos have more depth than her.

Applejack is surely something else, she's actually an enjoyable character from my perspective. I know I joked about her being a background pony, but she's a good one at that. She doesn't really need to learn her morals, except for one thing which was not to only rely on herself when she needs help.. as if that's really an issue? She's one of those already built characters, but yet with a little spice to her as well.

Again, that's me personally. :) I personally don't care much for the mane 6 except for Applejack, that's 'bout it.

I'm relatively new to My Little Pony, but it seems to me that each Pony has several qualities about them that are both admirable and otherwise. None of them are unlikable to me, though I do have two, PinkiePie and Rarity, whom I'm not as crazy about. All six of the mane have plenty of redeeming factors that outweigh the negatives by a country mile, and the positives that they do bring not only benefits their own individual characters, but to the group as well. Taking away any of them would leave the series a much blander experience.

I think the argument that has taken place in this thread touches upon what we deal with in life. People are varied. We have personalities that are seldom one-hundred percent compatible with each-other, yet we willingly overlook these issues on a daily basis and call others our friends, lovers, and team-mates. The very same could be said here, with the exception that there is an exception. Writing off a character just because of a few disagreeable quirks seems fairly superficial and it's all the more compounding when quirks are either overlooked in others or forgiven. All of the mane six, Rainbow Dash being no exception, are written to appeal to a primary group. Initially I saw this to be bad commercial inspired moe esq' writing, yet the more I watched the series the more I realized that the characters where the strongest part of the series.

Rainbow Dash, like the rest, isn't perfect. She is brash and arrogant. She often seems to dismiss how others might feel on account of her own personal pride and enthusiasm. She may even have the most shortcomings of any of the ponies. Yet these very same flaws also give her a lovable personality. Her self-confidence is booming no matter what comes her way. Her passion brings so much energy to any situation and her fierce loyalty to her friends is such a refreshment in today's world. She always has her friend's back and will be the first to stand up for them should the moment call for it.

In earlier posts I've seen people claim that her flaws appear marry sueish, but to that I ask whose flaws do not? My Little Pony is not Game of Thrones in which every-character has serious defects. This is My Little Pony. It's a light-hearted program written to leave a smile on your lips at the end. Character defects are at worst, mild. Even the villains are hard not to want to be friends with. Chocolate rain, anyone?

Everbody hates Rainbow Dash for her arrogance, Brashness, Cockiness, Full of Herself, Rude, Saucy attitude, but thats exactly what i love about her. B)

This attitude makes for some of the funniest burns, and even funnier counter-burns when she fails

And to be truthful, im pretty narcissitic and egotistical myself.

She's my least favorite of the mane 6 but I don't dislike her. She's one of the ponies with whom I identify the least, which is probably why I don't like her that much. But she has starred in plenty of great episodes and has a lot of memorable moments, so I can't say she's a bad character.

I think the biggest reason why she became the face of the fandom is because her design is the most memorable. She has freaking rainbow hair! Of course people will notice her first when they see a picture of the cast.

Rainbow Dash is still probably my least favorite out of the mane 6, but to be fair, she has grown on me A LOT. At the beginning I used to think her personality was absolutely unbearable. Maybe the writers have done a better job rounding her out, or maybe I've just gotten used to her more, but she doesn't rub me the wrong way very much anymore. She's seems more vulnerable and relatable lately. I've loved seeing her acting sweet and sensitive, like how she was when Tank was going into hibernation. I've also loved watching her fangirl over Daring Do. I also enjoy episodes focusing on her friendship with ponies like Fluttershy or Pinkie Pie, who tend to bring out her cute, caring, and playful sides. I've come to realize that she's not as hard as she acts; she actually has many layers to her that make her very interesting.

Oh, and I can't help but buy merch with her on it. She's on like 80% of merch I find in stores, and I just love her aesthetic so much. The rainbow and blue is so pretty. I know that's superficial, but... I like what I like XD

Rainbow Dash has never been one of my favorites, but I definitely don't hate her. She's in that kind of midground for me where she's just kind of... there most of the time. But I've seen many people state that Rainbow Dash is the least favorite for bronies now and that hating on her is the popular thing. Personally, I've never seen that. From what I've seen, she's still the fandom's favorite. But I can understand why people dislike her. She rubs me the wrong way sometimes with her arrogance, but she makes me laugh and smile other times as well.

inb4 Jeric has to lock this.

Joking aside, 99% of these threads end up getting locked and usually some action is taken beyond locking a topic. That is just how these threads tend to go down. People deeply and strongly care for these characters. I remind everyone that posts in here to keep that at the forefront of your mind before you hit 'Post'.

That's the most inaccurate description of Dash I've ever heard. I don't even think you watch the show.

Rainbow Dash is a shy, sweet, and humble lover of fashion. There, I gave you a less accurate description.

It may not be perfect, but it's not 100% inaccurate.

Arrogant: Well, she does brag and boast all the time. That's pretty arrogant.

Rude: I'll give that she isn't THAT rude. But she is sometimes a bit "brusque", to the point where some fans joke that she should swap elements with Applejack.

Selfish: Have you watched "Tanks For The Memories", where she endangers an entire city just for her own personal gain?

So that's 2.5 out of 3. Pretty close to a good description of her personality.

Oh, I don't like Rainbow Dash at all.

I love her!  :sneer: She's fun, adorable, talented, and loves to read. There's nothing to dislike, unless she goes overboard with the competitiveness. I think a lot of the negative opinions come from people falsely equating her with brainless jocks who gave them a hard time in school. I've been there, but I also knew athletic kids who stood up for me and made me laugh. Rainbow Dash is like that. Truly selfish people don't have loyalty, they just blindly go wherever the audience is, leaving hurt feelings and bad impressions in their wake. (See Lightning Dust, Gilda, and Trixie).

You're confusing "stereotype" with "archetype." An archetype is the background characterization/tropes of a character. A stereotype is a caricature of a character; these are worse because they take characters and create a false representation of certain attributes or real life.

Stereotypes in this show exist like the dragon bullies from Dragon Quest, Tree Hugger acting as the plain hippie in Make Friends, Sunset Shimmer as the half-dimensional alpha bitch in EQG1, and Flash Sentry being a half-dimensional Gary Stu. The Mane Six, however, aren't stereotypes. They take certain archetypes and create fresh and unique takes of the character. Rainbow Dash is no exception. She's brash and egotistical, but very sensitive and takes her reputation really seriously. Episodes like Sonic Rainboom, Sleepless in Ponyville, and Wonderbolts Academy show how deep her characterization is.

newbie bronies usually latch onto her first because she is the most commercialized, and she generally stands out the most.... and her attitude is the most relatable to the majority of the fanbase.... She was my first fav, but quickely fluttershy took that place.

GO FLUTTERSHY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that she isn't my favorite but I most certainly don't hate her. She's just too full of herself and thinks she's the best at everything. It's something I don't admire but I like her character.

Personally I have mixed feelings over Rainbow Dash. Sometimes she may jump around on my favorite Mane 6 in order list like crazy as well as Applejack jumps on my list.

But all in all, it does irk me that Rainbow Dash is the most familiar pony of the Mane 6 and almost every non-brony or new brony are most familiar with her. There are surveys and a survey here on MLPForums for your FIRST favorite Mane Six and Rainbow Dash always has the most votes from all the surveys I've seen and the most recognizable pony for every non-MLP fan. Almost anyone who isn't a Pegasister/female or girl Brony or Brony will right away think of Dash or whatever. It kinda annoys me how she represents us like this for us. I guess it's because of her being a tomboy and guys liking that and her being a rebellious character who's all "cool" and "all that".

But I quite like Dash in a lot of ways.

Sure, her arrogance is quite the highlight of her character for anyone who doesn't like her to notice. And though Rainbow Dash's arrogance can get out-of-hand at times to the point it's obnoxious, Rainbow Dash can be mature at times. She's also there for her friends and helps them out at the very least like the other Mane 6. And though Dash may go on serious ego trips here and there, she eventually remember what's most important and a time or place or everything.

Also, saying Rainbow Dash being a attention-seeker, it's natural for people and their emotions to seek attention and we need it to survive even at times and sometimes if you have a strong ego spark and don't receive any attention, you may need some attention here and there.

I'd go more into detail on good highlights and features of her or point out on things people say about her, but this video does it well for me and is the video that gave me mixed feelings on her as well as looking at her at a different way:

I think her being a mascot of our fandom is what irks me the most about her. The character itself is a bit bland and stereotypical to me so she just falls a bit short in the fun and humor that I look for in the show. Almost every American Cartoon show has some tomboy girl who is cocky and has a chip on her shoulder. No offense to the RD fans, I know you have your reasons why you like her.

It's very true how almost every Amercian cartoon has at least 1 female character who may be a tomboy. That cliche' even started way back with Buttercup from the Powerpuff Girls!

And almost every girl show has at least one or almost every book for girls has the main character as a tomboy who dyes their hair an unnatural color who wears hoodies and dresses all gothic or emo-like. Is it sin to be a girl and like pink nowadays? I swear girly girls in real life nowadays are becoming extinct while tomboys act like special snowflakes nowaday, not to be rude to any tomboys. I'm half tomboyish myself and hate dresses and makeup and all that but I'm just saying.

Or I'm genuinely distressed by the incomplete spectrum in Rainbow's hair.

It's my opinion, respect it. Or take it to the 137 other "Am I the only one who doesn't like Rainbow Dash?" threads, the existence of which should by themselves be an awnser to that question.

I don't really hate Rainbow Dash, but I don't like how cocky she can be, not to mention getting away with destroying the Weather Factory in Tanks for the Memories.
