For 2D games, the Sonic the Hedgehog games that were on the Sega Genesis.

3D wise, Probably Star Wars - Dark Forces, Majora's Mask or Super Mario 64. I'm slightly leaning towards Dark Forces as my favorite of the three.

Lol, yep. I didn't play it during it's heyday, but a just a few years ago. I first learned about it from a mod for Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Academy that recreated the first six levels and after finishing it, I thought the story was pretty darn good. I especially liked the whole Idea behind the Dark Troopers. I thought that the Dark Trooper project was one of the coolest ideas the empire ever thought of. I decided to play the game and I really enjoyed it. The Dark Troopers are still my favorite droids from Star wars... well, I don't know if that last one counts as a droid.  ;)

I liked the idea behind the Dark Troopers so much that I wanted to buy a Phase 3 figure of one. Unfortunately, the one that I've had my eye on for so long goes for prices typically over 90$. I'm not going to shell out that much money for a toy, even if it does look this good.

Man, a lot of you keep mentioning games I wanna mention, but for the sake of going with the flow, I'll just go out and say Earthbound simply because it's the only game I've ever beaten and immediately started a new file. Like, beat the final boss, credits rolled and started up a new file. It was like my mind wasn't sure what it had just experienced and wanted to do it again. I think that's the sign of an amazing game and I assume that should give it the spot as my favorite.

But there are so many games that are right underneath it that I hold near and dear to my heart like Turtles in Time, Earthworm Jim 2, Banjo-Kazooie, Ocarina of Time, TMNT 2: The Arcade Game, Donkey Kong Country 2, yadda yadda yadda. I could go on talking about games that I couldn't see myself ever turning away. Any of these games could easily be considered my favorite, but I'll give that distinction to Earthbound. I love it.

I stood in line for like 3 hours just to pre-order the Ness amiibo.

Well, my favorite retro game is Super Mario World, which is my favorite video game of all time.

Like I've said countless times before, I've replayed it TONS of times, and I still find it fun to play.

Agree wholeheartedly, recently played the GBA port for the first time which added some Yoshi coins. Was fun seeing the same levels with a slight SLIGHT twist to them. Still haven't completed everything in that version of the game, think I missed one of the alternate completions in World 6.

I really feel its the best Mario game. They avoid some of the formula (specifically, no dedicated ice world. Why have a garbage world that isn't fun to play?) and Yoshi has never been better in any subsequent title. Biased horribly I guess, too many hours playing it in my formative years, but I still stand by that game being profoundly fun which can't be said of all games from that era.

Eeeeeeh. Most of my favorite games are from post-2000. I've been playing video games since long before then but older games just don't stand up to the games of today anymore.

But to be on topic, I'll throw Wild Arms 2 in as my favorite since that's literally the game that got me into the RPG genre.
