As title suggests, say any thoughts on Windows 10?

Good? Bad? Improvements needed? Up to standard? Stuff like that.

Go discuss below :P

Question, when i bought windows 7, i installed it on two computers, my laptop and my desktop with one key. My desktop upgraded to 8 (im pretty sure that was an online upgrade, maybe not i cant really remember). Anyway, i did not upgrade my laptop to 8.

So one has 7, one has 8. They can both be upgraded to 10 but will i need my previous version keys? Will i have trouble upgrading two machines to 10?

Yeah, I've been fiddling around with it all day, and it has it's upsides and downsides. I'm not used to the calendar, it still looks nice though. And Cortana is pretty cool. :P It has worked with all the programs I've used with it. I like it :)

In my opinion, there is no such thing as "Worst Pony". Everypony is awesome in their own way, and it is what makes them truly special. :)

(edited)

Just upgraded last night and the installation process was kind of a pain. At first, the notifier icon kept failing to download the upgrade so I had to manually download the installer from Microsoft's official site and take over from there.

So far, everything seems to be working fine and smoothly, save for a couple of programs no longer working due to incompatibility, but they're merely insignificant losses now due to them being outdated anyway. Boot-up time could be better, but that's mostly because I'm still using an old drive, but the improvement is noticeable, I guess. I've yet to explore every feature that's been added, though I doubt I'll even use them all.

The new start menu is nice and all, but I'll still be sticking to Stardock's Start10 program from now on.

Well, according to Microsoft, the only major problem that you'll get when upgrading to Windows 10, is that if it's not genuine. But if you have bought both the codes or gain them via Microsoft, I'm sure you'll be fine.

And from what you wrote, it sounds like the Windows icon is already appearing on your task bar?

Yes, that's correct. Both of my machines have the icon and both have been reserved.

It's sort of okay. My main issue is how my audio sounds muffled. Like, when I plug in my headphones, it's fine. But when they aren't plugged in, the audio is muddy. It's distracting.

Is anyone worried about the WiFi Sense thing being a potential thing for hackers to exploit? Personally, it makes me feel icky to think my (even encrypted) passwords are being shared. Even if it is only my friends and family in my contacts, still seems to be a weakness for hackers to target.

Are you guys turning off WiFi Sense or leaving it on?

The OS overall feels and looks pretty sharp when compared to 8 or 8.1 on the desktop. The other thing that kind of breaks my user experience is the changes they made to the control panel. I wish there was a way to turn on the old version with the small icons, It was much easier to find what you wanted that way. Frankly though, the biggest feature besides aesthetics is the fact that they partially fixed the start menu, something which was never broken in the first place.

I'd rate the OS itself a solid 8.3/10. It's not bad, but nothing too revolutionary. It's more like what Windows 8 should have been on launch. If you're happy with Windows 8.1 now or have a third party start menu, you don't really have much reason to upgrade besides the current price tag of 'free'.

(Oh, and please don't get a subscription to solitaire. Buy a real deck of cards for $1 instead and use that money to buy winzip.)

I'm still using Windows 7, but am really interested in 10. My only concern is that I don't want to lose any data, and I want my older games to be able to run properly. To those who have upgraded, did you lose any files in the process? Having any compatibility troubles with games?

Runs fine on my laptop, and only thing I've had a problem with, is FATE crashes when it starts. Not that big a loss, but eh.

Overall, it's decent, but based on my experiences, it is a bit more unstable than 8.1. I also don't like the huge search bar on the taskbar. I know you can replace it with an icon, but most people just don't wanna change a setting.

It's also considerably slower. The login times are much longer compared to 8.1, as well as the initial slowdown after login.

But other than that, it's fine.

It's still new. Even XP was garbage when it first launched.

I'd assume DX 12 is enough reason for gamers to want to switch, haven't tested 10 out yet, though.

Yeah, then I'm sure that there should be no problem with the download and installation.

Well, I'm using an Insider {read, free beta testers'} version of W10 and there's things I like, and things I don't like.

It's definitely a step back from the cliff Windows 8 balanced itself on, and I found that the things I thought I really wanted to keep I didn't actually use, even when I had them.

The Metro interface died in a well-deserved fire, and everything is back to desktop mode. The tile/start menu mix is nice, although I'm hitting a bunch of bugs there. Then again, beta version. One thing that bugs me the daylights out of me is the lack of personalization - you can use themes, and set overall colors, but there's no way to manually pick and choose colors for each UI interface or even a Windows Classic theme. Bright white is not my thing.

Haven't used Cortana yet, but the search function is nice. It uses Seamonkey, my default browser, rather than hardcoding for Edge, which is nice, but I'd like to use other search engines rather than Bing to search.

I like the look and feel of the new operating system. you have to dig a little deeper than before to get to the customization options that windows is known for (Im talking about control panel stuff), but I think they also made it more user friendly to the casual computer user. I was really impressed with the "photos" program this version of windows offers. Microsoft edge seems to run faster and cleaner than IE ever did, but I still prefer firefox for speed.

I've been an Insider for a few months and the only real issue I had was the whole crapstorm with the Nvidia drivers and Microsoft's automatic updates about a week ago. But they fixed that with the tool that lets you opt out of updates as well as uninstall them. Overall, the OS is very nice, I'm glad to be rid of 8.1.

All you have to do is disable as much spying and sharing that Microsoft does on your stuff and it's completely fine.
