Will Mlp Fandom end with the show?

In almost any case, if the show is unique enough and builds a strong connection to its fans, its fanbase and legacy will definitely outlast its run. Even if the show was forgotten by the mainstream or even if it was cancelled too soon, you won't stop people from having fond memories of it.

One of the best cases was the British kids' show TUGS. The show only lasted 13 episodes for one season in 1988 before the production company shut down due to bankruptcy. Where the rights to the show ended up after that is unknown, effectively making it an orphan work. However, many people acclaimed the mature writing which touched on themes including corporate rivalry, crime, hazardous materials, and more. Fans also enjoyed the maritime theme, attention to detail, and the craftsmanship of the model boats and sets used (which didn't hurt considering the ties to Thomas the Tank Engine), the latter so much that a company of fans put up the money to reclaim and restore many of the original models and sets used in the series in 2013 and taken them on tour. Some fans have even subscribed to a fan animation project whose production values may pretty much rival stuff I've seen out of this fandom.

After MLP ends, I'm sure many fans will move on to other things. Many fans are moving on to other things as we speak. However, MLP continues to attract new fans as fast as older ones leave. After the show ends, that case will continue considering the large footprint we have on the Internet and the high amount of fan content.

I discovered TUGS in 2007. That same year I also discovered The Raccoons, a Canadian cartoon that ran mainly from 1984 to 1992. All of it thanks to the fanbases that arose on the Internet as a result of their legacies. I was not alive when either show was in its original run or reruns. Hell, TUGS never even aired in my country, and I found out about it here.

And when you compare MLP's potential staying power to any of these shows, or Star Trek and such, there's one advantage MLP has that those shows didn't. MLP aired in the age of the Internet.

If shows like Star Trek can maintain fanbases in the pre-Internet era and continue to stay strong, if shows like TUGS that had not only that, but also an extremely short run and virtually no mainstream recognition, can have the staying power to continue to inspire people long after they ended, MLP: FiM has no doubt that it will have the same kind of influence and staying power.

And although I'd hate to admit it: smaller fandom + no show = less dramas

As they say, a mainstream hit is a show 1000 people watch 100 times. A cult classic is a show 100 people watch 1000 times.

The Brony fandom may or may not fade away. I can imagine that it will be drastically reduced with the next generation of MLP. It's just the natural flow of things, especially with how much so many Bronies hate anything and everything MLP that isn't FiM. They're not very likely to like whatever MLP comes out with next.

The MLP fandom will not die, though. It was around LONG before FiM.

Not entirely, there will always be hard core fans.

The numbers will drop, but it will never die.

Plus they will keep making new generations of My Little Pony until the end of time.

I don't think so. We're such a massive force online, we'll last at least a year or two after the show. But since I'm also getting into the LPS fandom it makes me weep that that fandom's gonna die in months after that show does. Unless I can at long last get the fandom the fans LPS should have. /Sigh.

Well, with a following this big, no. There is no way that the fandom will die out, or at least not that quickly. Considering how passionate the fans are about the show, the fandom will probably live for a long time. Just look at all of the music and animations this community has made! All of that takes lots of dedication. I'm sure a fandom so dedicated and passionate about something won't just die off as soon as the show ends.

MLP as a franchise will continue to exist: Specifically those who are collectors and just like the show for the toy aspect will continue to exist. Additionally, I'm sure the "intended audience" aspect of the show will continue to exist.

But the bronydom? No, not at all. The more I look over the evolution of the fandom from S1 to now, the more clear it becomes that within a year or two its pretty much going to be shriveled away to nothing and will have little to no staying power.

Look at brony sites like Derpibooru: Ever since S3, the production of fanart has shifted to a disturbing degree: "Legitimate" fanart of the show and universe has been dropping like a stone, while the proportion of fanart that is simply pornography has been increasing (not in number, in proportion). This shows that the "regular" fanbase that enjoyed the show has been dissapearing and dropping while only the invested to an extreme degree are staying.

Heck, I doubt that there will even be much of a brony impact on the 2017 movie's success at this rate: the loss of bronies to the fandom has been increasing almost exponentially ever since S3. (I would pretty much refer to S3 as the "brony apocalypse" for how it was the turning point in population of bronies and how bronies viewed the show)

The fandoms will LIVE ON! Even though the show will canceled anytime soon, we will never be gone! Or if we are lucky enough to tell hasbro to not quit the show, we will be HARDCORE BRONIES! Or MLP gen 5.
