Does Fluttershy have a job?

Out of the main 6, we know that:

 

Pinkie pie helps the cake family as a baker

Rainbow Dash is a weather pony and has aspirations of joining the wonderbolts

AJ works on the farm and sells apple related things

Rarity has her boutiques

and Twilight used to be a librarian, but now probably gets royal funds as a princess

 

The only thing I could think for Fluttershy is that she takes cares of others animals, but most of the ones we've seen are either her own or wild animals, and I feel like if she were to take care of somepony else's pets, she'd do it for free. I mean, it's not like she runs an animal shelter or anything. But she does pay for things, so she must get money from somewhere, right?

 

She helped out in the tornado in hurricane Fluttershy, but that wasn't a job or a thing she'd usually do, the only other thing I could think of is in art of the dress when she shows her knowledge of stitching, maybe she works as a seamstress? Or did she get a ton of money from modelling that she's able to live off of for life?

 

Am I missing something really obvious, I feel like I am. What do you guys think?

I think Fluttershy is sort of the Equestrian equivalent of a Fish and Game officer, a wildlife rehabilitation specialist, and a pet caretaker all in one. Maybe also a researcher. My best guess is that she gets funded by the town of Ponyville to care for the local wildlife, much like weather ponies are presumably paid to take care of the weather. This includes things like relocating animals (seen in Feeling Pinkie Keen) and taking population counts (seen in Applebuck Season). She likely also gets paid by individual ponies for services like grooming, and based on her trip to observe the breezies she may also be applying for grant money to conduct research.

I could be wrong, but this is most likely just a plot hole or something seriously disregarded. We could make an assumption that Fluttershy has an occupation not specified to the viewer or that she does something in her free time if not have borrowed bits from others. By your logic, Twilight getting funds from being a princess could mean the same to say Fluttershy gets bits from just doing what she does. I don't think this is just you, though, nor you missing anything.

IMO, she runs the town animal shelter.  In Best Pet Ever, she helped Dash find Tank.  In Milli Filli Rarity & The PonyTones had a fund raiser for her animal shelter.

 

Plus, since she can talk to animals she probably helps w pest control (Flutterbat) & animal training (Trade Ya!) although IDK if she gets paid for that (IMO, she should but she is such a pushover she might not have the nerve to ask for payment)

 

In fan fics she is usually shown as the poorest of the Mane 6. (Although sometimes she has wealthy relatives who subsidize her)

There are many jobs involving animals which people or in this case ponies can be paid for that Fluttershy in fact does, she operates a de facto animal shelter which falls under animal control (animal control officer), often takes care of wild animals (game warden), likely does grooming and possibly veterinary services (veterinarian). She probably dosen't charge very much, likely just enough to cover the expenses to take care of all these animals and to support herself.

Very VERY low expenses.  I mean she didn't even have 20 bits to her name for a cherry.  She sells eggs from the chickens she has raised, is an animal whisperer (what she did with AJ at the dam with the beavers she probably gets paid for if she does it for another pony), a pet paramedic for when animals are injured.  She is also an exterminator of sorts (Having a rodentia problem?  Shy won't kill them, but she will talk to them and make sure they go somewhere else).

 

More recently there are expeditions for the crown.  I am sure she got paid something for going to the Breezies.
