Riganthor 484 January 12, 2016 Share January 12, 2016 It isnt bad in my eyes, yes it has its issues but there is no series, show or movie out there without flaws. For me MLP manages to fill the void that the disney avternoon and the muppetshow left after they stopped airing new episodes.
Goat-kun 2,531 January 12, 2016 Share January 12, 2016 The problem is not so much in the show’s own shortcomings but in the failure to admit them by those that matter. Moving forward, this is not a problem that shall bring down FIM, but I do pity those fools that shall try and create any other show, MLP or otherwise, with the same approach. Because it’s 2016!

Kyoshi Frost Wolf 42,202 January 12, 2016 Share January 12, 2016 I really hate it when people just label FiM as a kids show. What exactly does that even mean? Many of the morals in the show are things that even adults can learn from and should take to heart, but for some reason, it is constantly branded as a 'kids show' by many in the fandom and thus, for some reason, that means that we have to somehow justify why we like the show, other than the fact that it is a GREAT cartoon with lovable character, a delightful fantasy world and adventures that are both fun and morally educational. There is a reason this show has the fanbase that it has. 3 Redeem me into childhood. Show me myself without a shell.
Gestum 2,493 January 12, 2016 Share January 12, 2016 It's fairly decent for being a kid show. But it's not as good as bronies makes it seems.
Trinitron Keys 89 January 12, 2016 Share January 12, 2016 (edited) I don't feel it's accurate to designate it solely as a kid's show, since it incorporates elements of adult life (seminars, fashion shows, businesses, travel arrangement), but maybe some people feel this way because today's kids are a lot more sophisticated than my generation's were, and consequently a show has to be that much better or complex just to make the the rank of being considered an "adults' show". Me, I read and watch stuff from all across the 20th and 21st centuries, so I don't feel weird about enjoying a show created for other age groups. I think of it as being entertained fourth-dimensionally. I'll admit, it was the Derpy episode that really got me hooked; it took a while to stop laughing. Mostly because I never expected to see something quite like that happen on a "My Little Pony" show (I was around when the G1 show hit the airwaves.) But don't worry, I was laughing WITH Derpy and Dash, not at them. It's people's minor imperfections, I find, that actually make them more enjoyable to be around and observe. Too perfect and infallible comes across as unrealistic and forced. Yeah, the show has its flaws, and we haven't gotten to see EVERYTHING the fans would like to see on the show (imho, Prince Cosmos would make an interesting new character if well-written), but they have gone above and beyond what we usually see as far as special effects and lookable art (hey, I haven't heard anybody say it's like Foofur with Horses), and the only episode out of them all I can say I DIDN'T like so far was Too Many Pinkie Pies. I'm fine with having seen it once, and having it in my collection for the sake of completion, but I don't feel the need to see it a second time. For me, it's one thing when the Grimdarkers go write a story like that, but seeing that happen in canon did make me shudder a little...(*his voice drops two octaves* what if Twilight chose wrong...?) Overall, yes, if I were involved in the production I'd try to innovate a little on some things, but it's not horrible as-is. Until most people's view of "what's okay in a general audiences cartoon" broadens, some things will just have to remain fanon or headcanon. Let's just hope Pinkie Pie didn't light its fuse. The above statements are solely the opinions and takes of the post's author and not to be taken as fact. If you wanna disagree with me on something, that's cool, not trying to start an argument with anypony. Just sharing to participate in the conversation. Drunkfrank 1,125 January 12, 2016 Share January 12, 2016 I once thought MLP was amazing, after seeing Gravity Falls I would now say it's just good. Season 1 of Gravity Falls is hardly that amazing... I mean, really, its of similar quality to s-1-2 IMO, Season 2 is jaw dropping, and is near 3-5 for me... not sure if I am the only one in this fandom who TRULY adores this show or not anymore... There is a reason this show has the fanbase that it has. I think that what most people think of when they say that something is for children is that it's likely to avoid things like graphical depictions of realistic violence, drug abuse... "Things that raise the age rating". And they don't necessarily think that these are related to quality. I know I don't. https://www.fimfiction.net/user/32864/Metemponychosis For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out. Daring_Do 552 January 13, 2016 Share January 13, 2016 (edited) Did Faust ever actually say that? From what I've seen she's repeatedly said that the show was meant for little girls *and their parents*. Even when defending the bronies, she used that, saying again that she made the show for little girls and their parents and "that includes male parents". Til I see a quote, it doesn't look like it was ever really meant for us. Edited January 13, 2016 by Daring_Do
Dark Qiviut 22,588 January 13, 2016 Share January 13, 2016 not sure if I am the only one in this fandom who TRULY adores this show or not anymore... You can love a show and admit others are better. FIM is a great show, but Steven Universe is better. @@Daring_Do, Here's her full response to the anti-brony (who also called bronies "manchildren," a sexist and ageist slur): It's an admission that FIM's for everyone here, and she actively supports an all-ages mentality in entertainment regardless of marketed demographic. Meson Bolt 2,650 January 13, 2016 Share January 13, 2016 (edited) Here's why I like the show -- while it doesn't have *the best* animation, or the most memorable stories, it does have compelling characters. You call their personalities "generic"? I call them "complex and mature enough to give older viewers something to relate to, yet simple and label-able enough for kids to understand and enjoy". Dash may be "the cool one", but she's also struggled with problems such as envy (Mare Do Well), learning to accept something "uncool" (Read It and Weep), losing a loved one (Tanks for the Memories), and many more. Sure, the episodes themselves might not be that great, but the lessons they teach make up for it. And that's just one character! Not to mention that Mare Do Well was figuratively a kick in the balls as it called me out on behavior that I hadn't given much thought on. I wasn't saving ponies or anything, but I was doing all that I could to garner attention and praise, when I really should be doing what I ought to do for the right reason -- to please people and to make their days. All I'm saying is this -- if I can learn life lessons, get "the feels", and also laugh my insides out at the same show, I think it's worth my time.
