So, out of curiosity...do you think it's possible, not saying that Ditzy Doo/Derpy Hooves has a mental disability or disorder, but do you think it's a possibility.

Also, do you have an opinion on her mental-state? Do you like hearing about headcanons that involve her disability as a form of adversity? Are you indifferent?

In addition, what about her social ability? How social do you think Derpy is? Do you think she struggles socially or she's just bubbly and--for the most part--alright as she is in canon?

No, it is likely that she is just absent minded and a lovably silly.

I actually do not consider her to have a disability, so I suppose that this question would not apply.

Based on the variety of her appearances in the show, I would consider her social ability to be considered within a normal range of social tolerance for the citizens of Equestria. She has friends, so she has to have social skills.

I actually like all versions of Derpy.

 

Like the Dr. Whooves and Assistant version were she's actually really competent, but just has wonky eyes. And then the ones where she's more heavily mentally disabled, but super kind and loving and works hard to take care of herself (AND a filly, usually Dinky). And then still other fanons where she has a high functioning mental "disability" that just gives her quirks.

 

I think that last one is the most likely. Heck, I'M like that. I'm technically on the Autism Spectrum, with ADD and OCD, but no one ever knows unless I straight up tell them. I was in like high school before I ever got diagnosed on the Spectrum. College before I found out about the OCD. All they really do is give me little personality quirks.

 

Like her being silly and distracted by the things in Doc's lab.

I actually feel a bit of kinship with Derpy, especially after my mom made a comparison between me and her.

I showed my mom a picture of Derpy as a filly, and she practically squee'd, mentioning the matching blonde hair and the fact that my eyes used to cross when I was little due to one of them being lazy.

I also feel that she probably doesn't have a disability, but since I don't really have any experience with mental disabilities, I wouldn't really know. The comparison to Luna is ok, but it doesn't really fit. Derpy is an absent minded, forgetful character, but Luna is more daydreamy and out-there.

Honestly I think she just has a vision problem that makes her really clumsy. Without my glasses I am the exact same way.

I'd say it is possible that she has some kind of mental disability, in combination with her eyes it can make you quite ditzy. Ditzy Doo in fact. : o She could potentially be on the autism spectrum as her in Slice of Life actually reminded me of, well, me in certain ways, but there's nothing wrong with that at all. ^__^ If she did happen to have that, then that is just part of who she is.

I'm not expert in mental disabilities, but from my experience, she lacks one, or at least, a severe one. I see her as a grown mare with the mentality, attentiveness and clumsiness of a filly, with some pronunciation problems common of a child, as she pronounces "Cwanky" instead of Cranky. But I don't see her as dumb, as when Matilda shouted she needed flowers, she immediately went to the flower trio, and once that failed, she went to the colorful fireworks, showing she has initiative and has a solution to problems

The crossed eyes may be a sign of a disability of some kind but most of the time she's just ditzy with bad luck

No, I just think she's a little... derpy at times.

A friend of mine calls Derpy/Muffin lovely "the pony with a peanut as brain" and sometimes I think that fits perfectly...

 

But overall I think the only REAL problem she has is the one with her eyes, what explains at least her clumsiness.

Besides that, I would not talk of an (mental) disability. She acts simply silly at times, what makes her often appear as (incredibly) incompetent.

This is also the main reason why I do not really like her.

There is no evidence that she has any sort of mental or neurological impairment, there is evidence that her clumsiness may at least partly be due to strabismus aka "lazy eye" which is why her eyes appear "derped" and can in some cases directly affect depth perception. For her mental ability I would probably say fairly average, she is not Einstein but she is no dummy either.

I never thought she had a mental disability, actually. I just think of her as a clumsy, adorable pony who doesn't always think before she acts and then she makes silly mistakes. Her eyes are just something she was born with, and it has nothing to do with her personality.

 

That's my way of thinking, anyway.

From what I've seen of her in the show, I don't think she has any mental problems. She's just been shown to be easily distracted and very clumsy, but since she has a lazy eye somehow is seen as having problems by many people.

Like so many others have already said, there's no indication in the program of there being anything wrong with Derpy barring a lazy eye.  Her depth perception may be a little off, making her clumsy, but I really don't think there's anything more to it than that.
