Quite right.  Luna's mane would shock you and make your hand go numb for a few days.  Celestia's mane would give you a third degree burn.  (And in answer to your question, I have no idea.  )

It's probably close to incorporeal, so wouldn't really feel like anything solid. Rather I imagine it'd be similar to placing your hand in a rogue sunbeam on a cool cloudy day. Warm and refreshing, a delightful contrast to your surroundings.

That's what I think also. Her mane doesn't look like it has much of a form. It wouldn't feel solid, and your hand would easily pass through it.
