Trends in the fandom you wish would just die

Doom and gloom. While it is not as bad as it was, thank Celestia, it still is an issue. Anytime something hugely new might be introduced, I tend to see a certain amount of bronies jumping to the conclusion that this new thing will be the thing that kills the show and that Hasbro is forcing this or that for toys and blah blah blah. That stuff. It is definitely a dying trend but it still exists.

I would like to see the fandom take Pinkie's "Pinkamena" side into account without automatically making her a psycho killer in fan art and such. Can't we just show her being sad?

The annoying thing is THAT fanfic which we associate with Pinkie being a murderous psycho actually has nothing to do with Pinkamena. In fact it is quite obvious in said fanfic that Pinkie is her usual cheerful self throughout; that is why it works. Turning a character into a murderer is one thing, but being able to keep them in character while doing so is what makes the difference. Anyway my point is that we should appreciate both the fanfic and Pinkamena as separate entities and stop projecting one onto the other.

The message is the same, it's either humans are all bastards or ponies are all bastards. ... To be fair, the "Other Side Of The Spectrum" spinoff series is actually the best-written variant.

Taking the show/fandom way too seriously: there are many many ways this can happen but some people honestly treat it like it is some kind of religion which dosen't help matters. Things like "what if there is a brony country/political party" and referring to it as a movement are examples of what I am talking about.

 

White knighting: this fandom has more white knights than I have ever seen in any other fandom and I have been in a lot of them over the years. The anti cloppers are the most obvious example, I still don't understand why they are so obsessed with what some people decide to jack off to. I can understand it not being their thing, not wanting to see it and being annoyed at it popping up on google "safe search" but there is all kinds of shit that shows up there that shouldn't that is not limited to clop. I don't see it as much but I see a lot of stuck up over grown children who will simply dismiss any disagreement as "intolerance" or being a "hater", I saw a lot of that during the twilicorn controversy for example.

 

 

Hating on things they don't like for no reason: this applies a bit to above but it is something that is not just limited to rule 34. It is not so much people deciding something is not their thing but how some people go out of their way to hate on things they don't like and people that like it. This has been happening a lot over this genre of crossover fics called Displaced. One fimfiction moderator even said in a blog post that everytime he receives a Discplaced submission he simply calls it "one of those fics" which is probably something that he an fimfiction moderator probably should have kept to himself.

I cannot stand these things, especially shipping. I've never understood the appeal of that, it boggles my mind. I'm not trying to take away anybody's freedom or anything, but I think we'd be better off without it. Braindead Celestia hate. And any general mistreatment of characters people don't like and their fans. It's just distasteful and malicious. I can't stand EQG, but you don't see me mistreating the characters or their fans.

Yeah, people take the hate to the extreme, and more often than not, for petty reasons  . The only one I approve of fandom hating is Flash Sentry, because they're so over the top, that they actually made him one of my favorite characters  . Too bad it kinda died down these days   

 

I remember one trend I DESPISE: Anon   . Nothing screams more of laziness, self insert and bland character than Anon   . THE NAME EVEN SOUNDS CRINGE WORTHY :scoots: . And they later complain of  Flashy stealing waifus while they are using a bland concept themselves  . Make him  wear a Guy Fawkes mask at least  :diamondtiara:

Raging against non show toys. Hasbro is a toy/tv business and this trend is not new. It adds variety to the lines and people get tired of seeing the main characters over and over again. It's bad for business and bad for the franchise.

Irrational Generations Hate. I understand not liking an iteration of such a long running show. I cannot stand TF Animated, New Looney Toons is blah andNewborn Cuties was pure awfulness. But people don't need to harass others for liking it.

Story: *Only shows the protagonist in a herd.*

 

So they mostly just end up looking like shallow excuses for personal-wish-fulfillment harems.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. It's great that you enjoy those things, I'd be better off without them though, that's a more correct thing to say. I don't mind what Anti-bronies say about MLP though, it's when they generalize the fans of the show I have a problem.
