The Adult Thread... No not that!

The fandom covers a hole plethora of age groups from the very young {supposed target audience}, through teens, 20's.... 30's... 40's... and yes, those of us who are 50+. I have watched cartoons all my life an I don't see why I should stop now that I'm in the prime of my life. As I have said every day to myself for the last Celestia knows how many years, 'Growing old is compulsory,,,,, growing up is optional.' So if you love something does it actually mater how old you realy are in years, after all it's just a number. But unfortunately in this world the higher that number gets, the more society expects you to behave in certain manor, especially those with a lower number !!!

I've always been honest and open about my love of MLP, anime, and cartoons. It's other people in this world that seem to have the problem with that fact., not me.

So yes, I'm 50. I love my animation, especially MLP FIM, I have watched it since the day it was first released and even watched MLP when it first aired with it's adorable G1's. :D :grin2: :pout::proud::confused::please::rarity:

I was 17 (now 20) when I got into the show and not too long after the fandom. I've really enjoyed the fandom the past few years, even with the younger more obnoxious fans (although I was one of them not too long ago).

@Fluttergirly;

Your thread has been moved to a more appropriate section. :muffins:

Much appreciated!!! I was trying to work out where to place it :-)

You're a gem ????!!!

Wow!!! :-D I'm so buzzed that so many Elder Bronies out there took the time to post on this thread from a newbie! Really appreciated ????????

I'm 22 and have been aware of the show for years but got watching via my neice who is 9 now but was around 6 at the time so I guess I was around 18, still at school.

Other kids there watched it but it was mainly gay guys and it was one of that group, a friend of mine, who kept on at me to watch. so he is also to thank!!

Before that I had thought it was going to be either all cutesy Care Bears or trashy like Bratz.

So glad I got sucked in.

My dad and little brother both love it too so it really spans the generations!!!

My ex laughed at me liking the show - one of the huge reasons he's my ex :-D

Long live MLP!!!????????????

I was 24 when I first started watching the show in 2012. I'm 28 now.

This is actually the first cartoon I've followed since the '90s.

I keep my interest in this show a secret for the most part, so I guess I'd consider it a guilty pleasure. My sister is the only one who knows I watch it. I trust her, but I'm reluctant to tell anyone else about it.

Sunny Fox here!

I'm 34 now, and I started watching MLP only after I got to Japan in 2011. I didn't really join the fandom until early season 2, which would have been me at, what, 30? Yep, 30. So I went back and watched 'em all! I got to Suited for Success, and fell in love (metaphorically) with Rarity, and that was it!

I think there are better animated shows out there (a year or two ago, I probably wouldn't have said that), but Rarity keeps me coming back to FiM.

Im 20, don't really mind being 20 either. I still love video games, sports and anime so nothing has really changed since I was younger. Honestly I don't give a crap what people like, you can like whatever you want, it doesn't make you less mature or whatever.

I started watching two years ago just after I turned 25 (been 2 years and 1 month actually!). About 18 months before then I had a roommate at college that was a brony and over the year I finally let him show me Dragonshy re-voiced imitating a character named Professor Layton. However, it wasn't until 18 months had passed that I came across MLP on my Netflix account and figured, "what the heck, I'm bored, and the clips I've seen were funny." I was hooked.

Whoo, 25 here!!

Nothing special about my story.

Been a lover of cartoons my whole life and I heard it was good.

And it is! <3

Same!

Plus, I really liked ponies when I was a kid and I just HAD to watch the new gen show when it came out!

I'm 22 years old and been a fan of it since I was 20. I first heard about this series when I was 18 (watching the Rainbow Dash vs Starscream Death Battle). I didn't pay much attention to the thing for about 1.5 years - occasionally I watched a video or read an article about it. It wasn't until early 2014 that I started watching the episodes, and I rather enjoyed them. I've seen all the episodes so far and have watched all the Equestria Girls movies. I've been a member of these forums for almost 2 years, it's a great community. I also found out one of my older sisters is a fan of MLP, too. :yay:

I think the reason I still watch the show is that it's a good stress release for me. I always feel good after an episode.

I'm 27, but I was 22 when I started watching FiM. I'm not really ashamed by it because cartoons and animation are all I've ever really watched my whole life. FiM was nothing new for me.

I'm 32. I've always enjoyed animation (wearing old Ninja Turtle shirt now actually), am an avid Disney buff (and shareholder mind you), and the joy of new animation has been because of my young daughter, who is almost 5. Even though the preschool shows on Disney Jr. and some on Nick Jr. are fine, it wasn't until we caught a few episodes of MLP: Friendship Is Magic that I fell in love with a new show...and boy did I! I'm attending my first pony convention this weekend. :D :D :D

Funny though, our first episode was Twilight Time...had no idea what was going on and almost didn't proceed with more. I don't want to say it changed my life forever but....

...it kind of did. I've been an actor for over a decade, rarely getting auditions, the callbacks I get were to the end but didn't quite get cast...I've always wanted to do animation voiceover but never had the guts, always wanting to go the "I'll get work as a legit actor, and then the voice will come" - falling in love with My Little Pony gave me the guts to pursue my dream, buy a microphone, record my demos and pitch myself. In just a few short months, I've booked voiceover work, auditioned for a Seth Green series, and am now repped by an agent. I've had more auditions in the past two weeks than in the past 10 years!

So, this may sound hokey, but it...kind of did change my life forever.

Wow just the last in a variety of life-affirming/changing moments created by this amazing show!

There's something magical about it truly!

Long may it last and congratulations to all who have been helped by this bunch of ponies :-)

I'm 25, and I have an on/off guilty-pleasure feelings towards the show. I'll readily admit I watch it, but I don't necessarily show that I do. I got into MLP after reading FO:E (fantastic fanfic by the way), and it's a great show. It's not as widespread here unless we're counting geeks who are versed in internet culture because the show isn't aired on local TV, so people looking into me might be rubbed off the wrong way, i guess?

I started the show in April 2011 when I was 24.  Now I'm 28 going on 29.

I'm pretty comfortable admitting to being a fan online.  It's meatspace where I keep this thing a secret since I live in a very conservative part of the US that rigidly demands social norms.

I used to watch it when I was a kid, so maybe around 7 when I watched the first movie?  After a while though, I started to not like the animation and gave it up.  When I heard that there was going to be another show after G3 I thought I'd give it a go since I liked what I was seeing animation-wise.  I've been watching MLP:FiM since the first episode aired, now that I don't have cable though, I haven't been able to keep up and am probably a season or two behind... :please:

I'm 37, some time in 2012 I was browsing youtube for things suitable for my daughter to watch and came across MLP FiM (this was before Hasbro took them all down), I enjoyed watching it with her but not to the extent where I would watch it by myself.  However, every time I looked up episodes I kept on seeing this same PMV, which was tagged as having explicit lyrics, so probably not suitable for her.  But it aroused my curiosity, and I eventually got around to looking up the video when I was on my own.  The rest as they say... is history.

I started watching mlp when I was like 16. I actually turned 18 about two weeks ago. I don't think it's a guilty pleasure for me because I just really enjoy it and I'm not ashamed about it. Sometimes people will gave me strange looks but they still understand when I explain to them why I really like it. Plus, I live in a very accepting environment. No, it's not strange for me even though I'm technically an adult now.

I am 22 right now, started watching mlp a few months before I turned 21. I'm not so much ashamed of it, but I do feel a little bit conscientious if people were to ever see that I do like it(Stereotypes and all that). Less so now as I have seen quite a few overt bronies on campus, but I don't see anything wrong with it at all. Though when it comes down to it, it is just a cartoon and should not be treated as something that people will think lesser of you for based on how you can uphold yourself in public. Excluding online, I could care less as most of my aliases pertain to mlp in some way as with my avatars.

Im 24. I started watching when I was 19. It fueled my current love for cartoons.

Bout the same here, other than shows like American Dad, Family Guy, and the Simpsons. I probably never would have started watching some great shows like Gravity Falls(Distraught over that ending too lol) and the like if I didn't start watching mlp.

Heard about the show when I was 19, but didn't start watching till I was 20. It was that period of my life after college where I began to reclaim my youth in a sense. Through out High School and college, I felt like I had to act really grown up.  No time for childish things or youthful exuberance. Not when you're decompressing from another day of sleep deprivation, dealing with social awkwardness, homework and just being talked down to and lectured at int he exact same setting day in and day out. Oh, and being treated like a criminal. (Schools and prisons are more alike than you think. Look it up.)

I had to put away all the youthful joys because it felt childish and immature. I had to be strong and stoic in the face of day to day life in school.  I had to be serious all the time. But after I left school, and unwind from it all, I realized that I was an adult. And I had the right to act like a kid again. So I indulged in the old shows I watched, the games I played, allowed myslef to have more of a soft side and enjoy things like ponies.

Basically, by being a working adult, I've earned the rights to my childhood back.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
