How do we know it isn't that Big Mac has desires to be a female? If so, maybe he picked the most powerful female image to emulate. No court of law would accept "That's how I dreamed it" as evidence of anything.

Well he can't fly, and alicorns have all 3 tribe attributes, so I'd say no. Although he does seem to possess strong magic... And thats something alicorns have, so I'm feeling a bit uncertain.

Shining Armor is not an Alicorn! Seriously, where did you even get the idea? 

 

Anyway, Flurry Heart became an Alicorn from Cadence. Alicorn-ness is a trait that has Complete Dominance. So Shining Armor did not need to contribute. Also if you are wondering where Cadence got the Alicorn gene since she was not always an Alicorn. The answer is simple, when you become an Alicorn, your old body is destroyed and a new body is formed that is vary similar to the original, but not the same. So in other words, the new body has new genetics.

Starlight Shimmer (a unicorn) has magic to match Twilight's (an alicorn), and Starswirl the Bearded (a unicorn) was supposedly very powerful indeed.  Even before Twilight became an alicorn she was no slouch in the magic department.  Strength of magic doesn't seem to mean a lot in this.
