gaming Your favorite videogame powerup?

Powerups; sometimes they give you the edge you need to beat that part of the level, sometimes they let you steamroll your enemies, and sometimes they're just plain useless. Which ones are your favorites, and why?

 

For me, it's Berserk Pack from Doom 1-2:

 

This little box boosts your melee attacks by x10, essentially turning them into mini rocket blasts. To top it off, it heals you to 100 life, and lasts until the end of the level. Punching giant monsters with it never gets old.

 

Another one for me would be the Tornado Spin from Crash Bandicoot 3-4, which lets you spin a lot longer, and lets you slowly glide in mid-air if you use it after jumping.

My favorite power-up is the bullet bill from Mariocart. It is also one of my least favorite.

The chaos emeralds from the sonic series are my favorite! They give you power and can do other things. (I haven't played sonic in a while, so i forgot what they did  :awuh:)

Darn you, Mr. Bigeyes, I was gonna say that first!   Along with super speed, invincibility, and a higher jump, in Sonic 3 you could also do a double jump that would 'flash' kill all normal enemies on the screen.  And the Quake Quad Damage is a certain close 2nd

My favourite one by far is the Mecha-Jackson powerup in Michael Jackson's Moonwalker for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis

I mean, you become an invincible robot that shoots lasers, can fly, can see hidden items, and is a fricking robot. It's one of the most awesome things I've ever seen in any videogame ever, and nothing comes even close to the glee that fills me when I see this death machine doing the work.

I'm into the Fire Flower from the Mario series.  You go from having no attack at all other than jumping to having a ranged attack that can kill some enemies your jumps can't kill!

Hmm... Power Pellets from Pac-Man (Mr, Ms, and Jr), or Super Pellets (Super-Pac). Plasma Cannon from Metroid: Prime (GameCube) is the best weapon in-game cuz it's uber-powered. Fire Flower from Mario is always a favourite. Green shells from Mario Kart are always fun to troll people with (red shells are too easy to use, green takes more patience and aim). Oh, and can't forget Insta-kill from Call of Duty Zombies!

Can it be count as "power-up"? The stealth-suit in the Metal Gear games, it's just fun run trough the enemies - wordly - without one notice you XD the infinite ammo can often be useful too

Berserk from Doom is great, and extra fun if you're playing with Brutal Doom (rip and tear!); also it's super fun in Doom (4) as well. While it's not a part of the original game, spread in the Skulltag and Zandronum source ports is awesome. Nothing quite like getting the automatic BFG 10k and spread at the same time and nuking the whole map; usually causes players to disconnect from the server, lol.

Technically speaking, it is a power-up. Not in the 'temporary boost in power/score/health/etc' sense, but still a power-up nonetheless. As Samus' basic arm cannon is not very powerful, and can't open every door. And gaining the Plasma Beam is basically just modding her cannon to where she can use varying/more powerful attacks. Ice Beam and Wave Beam are also considered power-ups, as well as the Varia Suit (and visors).

Mario Games - Starman, Cape Feather, Tanooki suit / Statue Leaf, Power Leaf, Double Cherry, and Mega Mushroom

Kirby Games - Bubble, Ninja, Hammer, Smash Bros. (SSB), Mirror, Sword, UFO, Galaxia / Master, Tornado, Stone, Crash, Paint, Mike, Cook, Super Abilities, Hypernova, and Spark / Plasma

I don't play many games with "power ups" but....

 

Destiny, I guess you could call "Supers" power ups...in which case, Stormtrance/Stormcaller is my favourite...It's a Warlock subclass and you're basically Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars with the electricity coming out of your hands...and you electrocute people...oh..and it'll chain to enemies for even more of a light show.

 

 

Mario wise, I like the Tanooki, boot or toad/frog.

Smash: Smash ball (DUH) pokeball and baseball bat (don't ask why)

I forgot about that one; it's the one thing even better than the Fire Flower!  You can kill Boos with that thing!

 

...sigh...too bad you can't take it with you from level to level, though...!
