It would be a Viking.  Not only do they have beards, muscles, brute force and swords (and of course a northern American state having an NFL team named after them).  But they feast on heavy foods after taking glory in finishing off an opponent.

I put the katana into question. Said weapons are comparatively Inferior  to most European weapons. However, I believe samurais have far superior combat training than vikings, giving them a greater edge in combat

Realistically and historically speaking, a samurai. They're heavily trained in combat, form and maneuvering. While vikings were trained, it appears to be less rigorous and structured as far as I can tell. I'd say if a samurai fought a viking ten times, the samurai would have the edge in total victories.
