gaming Games that do not deserve the hate they get

Another video game question for you all! Worded in a non-question form in the title, because rebel. :P There are games out there that, like any piece of media, do get hate. Sometimes these games are very much worthy of the hatred they get, for one reason or another. Other games however, get an abundance of hate that might actually be unwarranted, or at least the hatred doesn't mean the game is bad.

Let's delve into that subject. What are some games that get hated on but you feel like they don't deserve to be?

Here is one for me: Resident Evil 5. Is it perfect? No. Is it survival horror? like 5% of it is. Is it still a great and fun game? Most definitely! While this game did continue the action trend of the series, I find it to be a lot better than Resident Evil 6. The graphics are amazing, the gunplay feels really satisfying and there is a ton of content. Also a bunch of weapons. I honestly never thought Sheva was all that bad. She can be finicky but not completely broken like I have heard.

Pokemon Black and White and their sequels for me personally.

They had a really interesting story or at least for the franchise, and had some really good post game content that has been missing in XY and ORAS.

Seriously the Pokemon World Tournament was awesome and I really want to see it return in future installments.

Plus I really liked Cheren and Bianca and that the gym leaders and other characters got actually something to do for once.

And N is one of my favorite characters in the games.

I also feel like this was the generation that was the most fun to play.

Starfox Adventures and Assault were great games yet are constantly hammered for not being exact copies of Starfox 64. Hell, if anything Assault felt like a natural evolution for the series that just needed some tweaking. Unfortunately ever since Command, all the series has gotten since was a glorified port and a remake with 643D and Zero, double bad with Zero since it's basically just SF64 with annoying gimmicks

Also, might as well throw my hat for the CoD series, I still think its a fun series despite the newer installments not doing it for me

I'd probably say Sonic Lost World. I have both versions (the 3DS and PC/Wii U versions), and I honestly have enjoyed playing both of 'em. Sure, I still preferred 2, 3&K and Generations, but at the same time, it's still a great Sonic title imo that I've had a lot of fun with and I think it's way better than games like 06 or Rise of Lyric.

Also, I've started to feel Undertale has gotten a lot of hate lately just for being "overrated" and whatnot. That might just be me, but I felt like I might as well mention it.

COD Infinite Warfare...why because no body has played the game yet and only because it is futuristic..."oh that's not call of duty" what say do you have in that, call of duty is what the creators intend it to be not what the players intend it to be

For one the only thing I don't really like is the exo suits but otherwise space warfare isn't that bad look at zombies they had space warfare except it was zombies and yet we enjoyed it...I have heard so many people say "hey are you talking about the new battlefront" as in to make fun of COD...I think it will still be fun but the one thing I'm not looki NH forward to later on is my children saying that cod world at War isn't call of duty.

Dragon Age 2, sure it has it's issues and it wasn't as good as origins (neither was inquisition IMO ) but it wasn't a bad game. I enjoyed the characters and story even if the area repeats were bad and I wished we did more then hang in Kirkwall.

Another is the Legend of Spyro trilogy. While it was very different from the originals again it wasn't a bad games series, rather epic honestly. I always liked both :/ and the new series was doing far better then the crap people where trying to in order to make it similar to the originals like 'Enter the Dragon fly' and 'Hero's tail'

That is true.  Infinite Warfare shouldn't be hated on just because the players intend it to be something else.

On topic, Sonic Unleashed shouldn't get the hate it gets.  It's a fun game with emphasis on speed, combat and exploration.

I was one of the few people that didn't hate the ending of Mass Effect 3. Maybe it's because I started on the 2nd game or I wasn't too deep in the lore of the game. The hate that game received was out of control.

@@silvermoon15000While I do believe CODIW is getting too much negative criticism, at same time I'm not excited for it despite having played all CODs since COD1. Perhaps some factors for it are:

-Not historical

-3D movement

-BF1 is much more interesting to me.

-I distrust IW after Ghost.

As well, much of the hatred could also be because COD4 remastered is only available if you buy collector's edition which is actually quite terrible.

Going to Ghost, it still remains to be the one COD game I regret purchasing. The PC port was absolutely atrocious and, to get a sense of my enjoyment of the game, the "new game sense of excitement" lasted for only one day for me (whereas it was about a month for BO2 for comparison).

A few people have already mentioned some Sonic titles, Sonic Unleashed is one I also agree get's way too much hate. But I'll also throw in Sonic heroes, the first two Riders games, and Black Knight on that list, probably a few more too. Heck, for a while, I even hated them, despite having enjoyed these games as a kid, mainly because I hadn't played them in a really long time and I let people's opinions influence me a bit too much, but after a bit of replaying...I like them, they're pretty good. Flawed, but good. Feels like they just get unfairly lumped in with 06/Shadow etc.

Really, I just don't think most of the "Bad" Sonic games are even close to as bad as most people think they are. A lot of people just seem to hate them because "They aren't like the genesis games/Adventure games/Sonic Labyrinth!" There's a constant air of negativity surrounding the entire franchise nowadays, and anything less than near perfection is condemned. People who haven't even played some of these games hate them, just because other people do, and it's not like Sonic 06 where the flaws are so glaring they're practically punching you in the face.

On another note, I think the supposed best Sonic game in years, Sonic Colors was actually weaker than most of the hated Sonic games, so maybe I'm just a weirdo.

Final Fantasy XIII, no question.  It seems to be hailed as one of the most abysmal pieces of sh*t of all time, and I've never understood why.  I think it's a masterpiece.  From what I understand, people were upset that it wasn't an open world.  I guess people didn't like the fairly linear style, with little exploration or side quests.  Big deal.  That wasn't the point of this one.  The point of XIII was story and characters, of which I think it had some of the best in the series.  I think XIII has the most powerful and emotional cut scenes of the series.  Not meaning to offend anyone, but I feel that those who thought the game was garbage just weren't able to see or appreciate that.  I guess the combat system took a lot of flak as well, which is strange to me, because I thought it was extremely fun and fluid, and some of the best in the series.

To contrast, FF fans often seem to regard X as the series' best, which also makes no sense to me.  It's just 1 with a PS2 skin.  The combat is completely flat and boring.  Everyone just takes a turn in order, including the enemy, and nothing happens until you hit a button.  You could literally set the controller down to get a snack without pausing, and nothing will happen.  It also had a terrible camera system.  It desperately needed a free look, which they did in XII.  Now, I still enjoyed X, and I think it's a great game, but as FFs go, it's on the bottom.  Speaking of which, Shiva's was absolutely the high point of that game.  ;):orly:

Honestly, for me, it is not the fact that the game is futuristic. I think this is a common misconception. A lot of people think that the reveal trailer is getting extreme hate only because of the concept of IW itself, but that isn't the case. A lot of the hatred is coming from the fact that Activision is so slimy that they are releasing a remaster of Modern Warfare, a game loved by so many people, but to get it, they are forcing you to buy the $80 of a game that you may not even want at all, just to get Modern Warfare remastered. That is essentially a giant slap to the face to fans of COD. And now, it seems Activision is not backing down either, which is pathetic. I have a strong feeling that the game would not be getting even 1/10th of the extreme hate it is getting if they would just allow us to get Modern Warfare Remastered separately. What they are doing now is greedy, corrupt and deserving of the hatred, in full force. In my opinion at least. I hope that clears something up because a lot of the anger is justified because of this reason. Hell, I really would love to have Modern Warfare remastered but I have no interest whatsoever in IW, so it is incredibly unfair to me.

Anywho, you know what else gets a lot of hatred that I don't entirely agree with? Driv3r. I do think that the on foot stuff was garbage and the inclusion of weapons was entirely worthless, the actual driving was insane for the time. The damage models were the best that I had seen in any open world driving back then and it is still fun today. I personally enjoyed it a lot, just not the pointless combat.

Yes I understand the remaster but if you look at the comments it is usually filled with "this isnt call of duty, or people just making fun of the game in general, saying oh this is going to suck with exo jumps and space warfare, I mean yes I miss the modern days but all they are trying to do is expand and try to figure something out that is different from all of the other franchises. People just need to play the game before attacking it with criticism. I mean alot people hated Black Ops 3 when the trailer came out but it ended up being ok.

I also didn't like ghosts it was boring but I did like the marksmen class and I am much more interested in Battlefield 1 because we'll I love the guns in the world war era that and I love destructible terrain.

Well, since some Silent Hill Fans think everything is shit except the original Trilogy, i think every Silent Hill Game after part 3 is hated for no reason.

Some Fans say, the new Games are to different and dont feel like Silent Hill other say, they are to similar and copy to much. Thats kind off contradicting criticism here.

I can understand that People prefer the first 3, but why do some People say, that the new Silent Hills are bad Games?

Maybe they arent as good, but bad games? I dont think any Silent Hill Game is a bad game. They are all interesting, have cool looking world designs and monster designs.

Silent Hill Games are one of my favorite horror games, because they are so different and weird.

Same with some Resident Evil Spinoffs, i actually like Resident Evil Survivor. Some critics say, it had bad controls...why? Doesnt it have almost the same tank controls like the old Resident Evil ones? Why is it all of a sudden bad?

The graphics were okay, since the first one didnt look that good either from the 3d models.

Maybe Survivor looks worse to some, because it doesnt have pre-rendered backgrounds, but that shouldnt mean it looks bad.

I dont know.

Well if People want to hate it than fine.

Im just saying, i like them.

Agreed, Adventures was a decent exploration and puzzle game and Assault.... the main issue is the lack of alternative paths for the game, but had the seam great gameplay, and the music was overwhelming.

I think I can mention one of my favorite games ever that suffers for the same reason as those Starfox: Castlevania Lords of Shadow. Haters logic: It's not the same as the other CV, and it's a reboot, so it's sucks :unamused:. On top of that they LOVE to use the "It's a copy of God of War" argument too

What I don't understand is why people hate on Super Mario Sunshine.

I can agree to this statement, and I'm not even a Sonic fan anymore.

I kind of get why people hate Super Mario Sunshine with some repetitive levels, but at the same time, it's not that bad. In fact, it does some things better than Mario 64. It feels a lot more free with the jumps you can make and the settings are interesting.

Adventure of Link- wah! It's too hard. No it's not. One or two places are super hard, but not the whole game. I love this game.

Simon's Quest-I can understand the frustration for this one, but I myself find it highly enjoyable.

Mighty No. 9-actually play and review it, instead of whining about 4 million and how inafune scammed people in your high and mighty ignorance about how much a game can cost to make. There are legit reasons to be very displeased with it, like lag, slowdown, etc. But it's actually pretty decent.

The funniest thing about Simon's Quest was that it was essentially the building block for the franchises future, the Metroidvania's, with SotN, AoS, and OoC being some of the best in the series

Super Smash Bros Brawl is considered the worst in the series. For me,it ties with Melee as my number 1 favorite game.

Most people hate it for it's physics, but I don't mind them that much. They kind of make the game more comedic, plus the Boss Battle Mode would be absolutely impossible with Melee physics.

I'd don't think Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer deserves to be hated as much as it is...I mean yes...It doesn't have the most replay value but I didn't mind the idea because I honestly wanted the Animal Crossing series to branch out a bit......This isn't exactly what I had in mind but it's pretty fun in small intervals...Despite this game making me feel like I should not be an interior designer for my career.

I don't think Happy Home Designer is a bad idea...The execution is just a bit poor...And Mysims and Mysims Kingdom is a  much better home design simulator but Happy Home Designer isn't the worst thing ever...At least I can play as a character in my natural skin tone.
