I get the feeling that it may be because it's Pokemon that is often seen as a 'kids' game, if it was something else the flak may not have been bad - when it was released a load of us at work downloaded it and another colleague said: 'It's Pokemon, how old are you again?'

So I reckon that's one of the biggest things people have against it :(

Eh, my friends and working as an intern other colleagues have no issue with Pokemon at all, and in fact I know a few who are very into Pokemon themselves. I played competitive Pokemon for some time, too, but I don't really play it anymore.

I live in the country so I have to walk like 5 good kilometers (around 3 miles for fellow americans) to get to the nearest city, and it's a small one so not many Pokéstops but at least I've got 2 gyms...

Well, we had Pokemon GO release in Taiwan two days ago and there are so many Pokestops here...at least in Taipei. You can literally walk 50 meters and there will be another Pokestop. There is two of them right outside my old Taiwan home. Gyms are a bit sparser and take a while to get to, though.

There are also a lot of people that started playing it the moment it came out. Yesterday I went to go catch Pokemon and there was a massive crowd of people around the metro station and community park near my house (the station is also a Pokemon gym), and they were all catching Pokemon. There's an ongoing gym war there too, since all three teams are constantly wrestling for control on the gym there. Funnily enough the Blue Metro Line in Taipei has been taken over by Team Mystic.

No severe accidents, injuries, or deaths yet, but yesterday there was news that a university student fell into a park pond while playing Pokemon GO.

Compared to Orange, CA, which is overwhelmingly Mystic-dominated, Instinct has a much stronger presence in Taiwan as well. Mystic is still the biggest team but there are significantly more people in Valor and Instinct and they hold more gyms as well.

From what I read online, the inequality regarding the number of Pokéstops in big cities compared to smaller cities can be explained by Niantic's other title. It's a game called Ingress, and its goal was to take control of portals to support your team. Those portals were like Pokéstops : statues, big buildings, important places... but they weren't chosen by Niantic. Ingress' players rather took the pictures to then create the map with all the portals around the world. Needless to say most people who played Ingress were usually wealthier than the average.

And naturally, Pokéstop's location in Pokémon Go is based on those portals' location in Ingress, which is why I, poor little thing, have to walk 5 km to find like 3 or 4 Pokéstops total...  :(

I really summed it up here because there are factors other than higher living standards, such as historical heritage, but yeah. I wish I could link the entire article, but it's in french and I couldn't find an english equivalent unfortunately. :/

I've got a decent variety of pokemon but my real goal is just to hatch one more ponyta so I can evolve to rapidash. My park is a kickass spot for lures though, 24/7.

Not all of them are from Ingress though, surely Niantic set up their own stops as well, because countries like Japan and Taiwan didn't have a whole lot of Ingress players when it came out...yet they have Pokestops scattered all about. I don't really believe that the small amount of players in Japan and Taiwan set it up themselves.

As far as muggings (and other things) go, just exercise common sense. There are a few routes around me work gyms and stops, but they are in parks and the city centre. They are pretty safe as you are less likely to be mugged in such a public place, especially one which is frequented by families.

But I was walking back through one of the routes to get home late at night on Friday, and didn't get my phone out at all - with few people around and little in the way of lighting (being parks and all), I'd have been a perfect target if I kept getting my phone out (especially considering it would have lit my face up like a beacon with the backlight).

But use some common sense and this game can easily be played safely.

Seems common sense is thrown out the window, apparently.

It's a shame that common sense doesn't always seem to be that common - taking a quote from the article: "Kirby said Riley and his friend had noticed someone watching them from the top of a hill that overlooks the park, but it was dark and they were mostly looking at their cellphones."

It just goes to emphasise the point that an area that maybe safe during the day, may not be safe when it is dark/there's nobody around. It's a crying shame that people can be (and have been) targeted because of the game, and a tragedy for all those involved.

But, despite this, I still feel the games positives outweigh the negatives - I'm still enjoying my time with it, and plan to do so for a fair while yet!

I discovered something about a few days to a week ago. Some Pokemon have a blue circle around them  Does that mean those Pokemon learn different moves and perform better?

UM YEEEAAAH, hyped lady over here!!!

I grew up loving, collecting, dreaming about Pokémon and now there's a game where you walk around catching Pokémon of the first generation?? UM? YES PLEASE??

I'm currently at level 10, I started playing a few days ago. My siblings and girlfriend are WAY ahead of me so I have a lot of catching up to do. I've caught plenty of Pokémon so far but my best catch yet is Dratini or Dragonite.. Or Growlith. I can't decide. I'm soon to evolve my own Jolteon, which is my fav evolution out of the Evee evolutions!! EXCITED? YES.

The blue shading/circle means that the Pokemon was caught in the last 24 hours.

Dratini is probably my favourite catch so far too, and I caught my first Growlithe today too :D

Ikr, Dragonair is one of my favourite designs (and Dratini is damn cute), but I've only caught two so far, so I'm am a fair way off getting my Dragonair (or Dragonite for that matter :/ )

Aww, yeah! I've only caught one Dratini so far , they're pretty rare around these parts so I got lucky that one time. I'm not giving up on finding more of them, though! Hoping to actually find a Dragonair though instead of having to evolve one...  :D

Oh and about that Growlithe, I caught my first one today too!

I think Pokemon Go is a fine game, even with all the strange issues, it's causing. It's good to see the gaming community united in a way over their love for it. I have a lot of thoughts on the app as a whole, especially in regards to the occasional tribalism I see pop up on the internet, but I may write a long winded editorial about that later.

Also has anyone linked articles about Wrinkles the Clown or the Veterans who got in the fights with the Pokemon Go Players? I'll link the articles if you haven't.

Veteran's get into confrontation with Pokemon Go Players.

Wrinkles the Clown Stalks Pokemon Go players in Florida.

Is anyone having issues catching Pokemon? I have been trying to but have failed to catch Pokemon 25 times in a row, and they all run away on the first try regardless of CP value, throw accuracy, or what kind of Pokeballs I am using. I'm not sure if it was because I was playing (as a passenger) on the highway, but the Pokestops appear to work fine which suggest that it's probably not a soft ban.

I'm really pissed. I used up an Incense and most of my Razz Berries to find out I can't catch crap.

Pokemon go could use a few things, but for what it is I think it's a fun thing to do when you're out. Turning my beloved Vaporeon into a total badass if fun, gonna rule those gyms.

By the way, take note:

Selling or giving away Pokemon GO accounts is considered illegal according to Niantic's Terms of Service. According to Niantic, "Niantic grants you a personal, noncommercial, nonexclusive, nontransferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to download, view, display, and use the Content solely in connection with your permitted use of the Services." Which means you can't monetize or give away your account.

Doing so would get your account terminated and permanently banned.

This is something I have noticed really, especially since some famous YouTubers have started doing it. Just note that what they are doing is illegal. Don't do it.
